  • High flight was part of my child hood memories, even as a child It touched me. I was thrilled to find it again. This generation will never understand it. For me it was the 1960 version that I remember, and that lovely voice. It all comes back me Thank you

  • Yes I couldn't agree more with this. Todays generation will never understand the impact this had on us in the 60's and even the 70's. Makes me sad to think of it that way...

  • Tears*

  • This video is great! I've always loved the poem High Flight!

  • Thank you for reminding us of the beauty that is not only in the freedom of the heavens, but, in each & every one of us.

  • If you wish to visit Scopwick where John Gillespie Magee is buried, it is at the junc tion of the B1191 and B1188 roads in Lincolnshire. It is just east of the A15 halfway between the City of Lincoln and the town of Sleaford. It is about 30 miles east of the A1 Gt North Rd.

  • One of the most beautiful poems ever written!Every year I go to the worlds greatest airshow in Oshkosh Wisconsin! I live in Wisconsin USA!

  • One of our readers in public school, was titled high flight, and we had to memorize this poem for English class, and I never forgot it. Thanks for this video

  • i suddenly had a flash of a book, orange and red covered, with - what? a stylized airplane? - climbing into the sky, the image embossed in silver. Did you get the same edition?

(Can't remember a thing that was inside it!)

  • I've often wondered at the poignancy of that famous first line and that famous last line being as he was killed in action shortly afterwards.

  • Magee did not die "in action" ... he was killed after his Spitfire collided with an RAF bomber trainer. Magee's flight had just let down out of the clouds and Magee had no time to react to the other aircraft. Magee did bail out but was too close to the ground for his parachute to deploy.

  • Love that 60's signoff piece!

  • Excellent video Ray.

I have described this video to countless non-pilots that had no idea what I was talking about when I told them about the "End of the broadcast day" poem.

I was lucky enough to find your website and since I have been able to introduce a whole new generation to this magnificant poem.

  • Thanks, I always was intigued by this poem. i look forward to your film!
