@spdfrkmr2 Unity isnt bad, its convinient, but dont forget that unity is still unfinished and wont be complete until like 12.04 cuz if its gonna be a lts, it needs unity to be stable, and 11.10 is gnome 3 merge with unity polished
@TeruMikami2345 What you mean this pile of junk is going to replace regular "windows"!?!?!?
I like my windows style just fine, between that and a command line I am happy.
This looks like Windows 8,.. and I am NOT buying that POS... And Ubuntu can't give me this for free.
Why is Ubuntu trying to look like a MAC? First they move the task bar to the Top, then the buttons on the windows to the left, not they have the windows bar merging with he task bar. STOP IT! I hate MAC's!
@spdfrkmr2 because the OS X lay out is practical? it's simple, practical, not a lot going on visually with the desktop. you utilize your extensive resources to find what you're looking for. not sift through a bunch of random folders strewn out in front of you. if you like unorganized Windows you'll love the BumpTop 3D prototype. i've posted a link for you.

And I'm wondering why it's so "Fisherprice" like a user said before. If I right click on things I don't get a menu and if I drag applications to the desktop no shortcut is created. All ancient functions everyone is already used to, don't work anymore.
It certainly has some potential, but it's far from being a final product. After the upgrade I had to install my Nvidia drivers again to use Unity. I had to notice all on my own Ubuntu had removed my drivers for some reason. And discover an article to turn off autohide of the taskbar (install compiz windowmanager again). Now I'm still doing some attempts to add custom launchers to the taskbar and shortcuts to the app window. How will you teach your grandma to do all this stuff?
For me it feels wrong not to have a desktop. It's a very useful place for temporary files, and files you are working on at the moment. Also two panels is one too many for me. I'm sure it will autohide in the future, but i would prefer just the dock.
I'm sure there are people who will like it, but it looks grade school to me; less words, more pretty pictures. With Gnome Shell even worse and KDE4 a confusing piece of bloatware, I guess the grownups are going to have to use Xubuntu or Mint.
@nemis123 you can still get them to the right side (it was one of the first things I did when installed my ubuntu). It is true that the people that had the idea to set as default the left side are idiots.
Cool! I'm still waiting my finish downloading my Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm pretty excited to install it today... and of course... nice music... love it! Thanks for sharing. :P
@s3vv4 is not ubuntu 11.04. The video was pubblished 29/09/2010, looks the statistics. In the next week i will pubblish a video with the new unity interface in ubuntu 11.04.
@looseyuorself Can't blame you. The upcoming 11.04 will have the same "Unity" feature, just like in 10.10 Netbook edition. In my opinion, Canonical or Ubuntu should have not released 10.10 Netbook edition with "Unity". It's not very stable and really needs more improvements. That's just my opinion, though. They should just add the "Unity" feature in upcoming 11.04 Netbook edition.
@3dg3sk1ll3r Sidebar is installed by default with the operating system, it's starts automatically at startup, is part of the famous Unity interface, present on Ubuntu 10.10
@snoobsaibot New graphical installer, boot times even shorter, inserted Unity interface for all Netbook, new sound menu, several improvements on ubuntu software center and many others like the new kernel and updating many package!
Ubuntu is getting better than any other OS in therms of integration: because of applications being open source, users can alter them for getting them working properly with Ubuntu's new features.
@noskill1985 just wait until computers are touch only, this kind of interface could very well be the start of going into that type of interface. though I've heard you can get that 'theme' for windows or rainmeter or something, it's just clickable rather than touchscreen.
@fuzetsu490 I hope so. It's a bit contradictory that Ubuntu community has been working on One Hundred Papercut project and now have this kind of notory usability bugs.
This interface beats the regular one by a landslide, if it doesn't scale well for higher resolutions, they should definitely work on that...it even looks better and more practical than Gnome Shell 3.
This reminds me of Mac OS X, only that it's not just a clone but brings enough "Ubuntu" to the table. Very nice indeed.
@thalamay it looks good on regular and large monitors and higher res. the OSGUI channel here has a review of Tim trying it on his system on a big screen and it looks really nice.
I've been very disappointed by Ubuntu's performance on my MSI Wind U100 ever since 9.04. Lately I've been running Debian with Openbox and LXDE, or Linux Mint Debian.
So my question would be how's this perform on your eeepc? Seemed a bit sluggish to me.
@fbnaulin I don't know if you can change the unity's theme as that's something being wroked on at the development level at Canonical. wallpapers maybe but not the unity interface itself. Though that may change when it becomes default in 11.04-11.10 or 12.04 otherwise alot of users will make their system swith to the Gnome 2.X interface instead
@fbnaulin How did you manage to not read I knew it was meant for netbooks from the comment I made? xP
Oh well. I know it's for netbooks, but I still like it and would like a version of it where everything's scaled up. Why? Because the UI is just a plain good idea, and not necessarily just for small screens.
@TheDesertDragon not sure how well it's supported if put on a desktop but you can run it on one. if you use ubuntu you can get the unity or netbook interface from synaptic. just install it then log out and select netbook unity from the bottom menu and log back in. this way you can use it or do the same log out log in trick and select Gnome to change it back.
@Nattgew the music is 009 Sound System - Born to Be Wasted, the speed is good but can be improved, especially in some areas. I'm sure the official version will be faster and more powerful ... The switching on is fantastic, it takes very little time!15 seconds!

Personally this interface is a major step forward and has very strong support from its community.
Gnome is too much looked like windows XP interface with little innovation over recent years.
You can stop using it but they will still many other users who will find this as a good thing.
