1) Real ninjas use whichever weapons are available to them (and quite proficiently too). At the time, the only weapons that were readily available were what we consider the 'traditional' japanese weapons.

2) There was no such thing as a ninjato. A ninja's sword of choice would have either been a katana or a wakizashi.

One thing I always found interesting and entertaining about these 1970's and 1980's B Movie Hong Kong Martial Arts/Ninja/Action movies is that they always had a habit of using unauthorised music stolen from other movies or music groups/bands. For example, in this whole scene, they've stolen music from the music group Vangelis and from the anime Dagger Of Kamui. lol. But oddly enough, the music that they steal somehow manages to fit in really well with the scenes. lol.
