There's a way to beat this scam.

Drink your first shot and wait with shot glass in hand until the scammer lowers the glass of beer he's drinking (slowly more than likely to rub in the fact he's just scammed you), and when he does, quickly drop your shot glass into his glass.

He then cannot finish his beer without touching your shot glass with his lips, therefore making the contest a draw.
