My question is regarding the THD hot plate. Im totally new to tube amp, so my question is can i invest in a 50W krank or randall with 2 112 speakers cabs for jamming with my band and use the amp with the hot plate for bedroom practice without having to invest in a solid state which im not a big fan of. Will the THD bring the volume down to bedroom level without killing the tone. If not how about a 20W tube amp.
@TerrorBlade84 yeah i've got a 50w krank and i run it through a hot plate. I can get it as quiet as i like. the question is whether u want an 8 ohm or a 16 ohm. use a 16 ohm for one speaker or 8 ohm for two. I'm actually selling my 16 ohm so gimme a message back if you're interested.
any attenuator will burn your tubes out early as ultimately you are pushing them very hard, remember all the attenuator does is lower the db vol. As far as the amp and the tubes think the amp might as well be on full vol.
does your fan come on on your power brake all the time or only after a while at full volume on the amp and full volume on the power brake i don see mine commimng on, unless it ony comes on under superhigh load extended periods to cool it off.
Sweet, trashy and so toneful. I have a 74' non-master that doesn't touch this. Very nice, great playing as well. Great touch, doesn't sound like you're fighting it at all. Thanks for posting.
Sounds epiiiiiiiic! An amazing blend of Hendrix and Vaughan! More Vaughan.. but still, first time i've really heard both tones come through in the same recording!! :D
I hear the power brake is the most transparent attenuator out there, as in it just purely cuts the volume so you can get these awesome tones at bedroom level. could anyone verify that? this video sounds pretty good, but i dont know what it sounds like cranked..
Yes, I can. I used to use one w/ a 1959 100w re-issue. It worked great. Very transparent. Sold it all, though. Have a different amp now, but looking for another Marshall.
i just use a volume pedal and run it through the effects loop and it cuts the volume down leaving all the satuation of a fully cranked amp. big price difference between volume pedals and attenuators and i honestly like what the volume pedal does. i have a bugera 1960 plexi with a randy rhoads mod and thats how i run it. but once you RR mod a plexi it is no longer a bedroom amp by no means even with an attenuator/ or looped volume pedal. its like putting a straight jacket on a Juggernaught.
speakers work better at certan louder volumes than lower volumes.and plexi amps are a touchy breed of amp to deal with.once you acheave the tone that melts your face then cap it off with an attenuator or looped volume control then you begin to lower the looped master volume or attenuator vol/ you quickly fine out that your speakers just simply arent putting out that unholy ball busting tone But you have to run a attenuator or master loop volume to play down to other modern amps they dont compete
can i just say this may be one of the best tones ive heard. i usually hate vintage sounds like this but it turned my head as soon as i heard that first note.
hey vintagetom. i love that tone, i have a marshall jmp 100 2203, but i cant quite get that tone, would buying an attenuator really improve the tone that much?
I also have a jmp 2203. You can't get this tone even with an attenuator because the 2203 gets its distortion from the preamp valves. 4 holers like this get their distortion from the power valves. You can get close but trust me for the real thing you need a 4 holer.
Helps coax out the overdriven harmonics at a lower volume,so you wont have to go to jail or pay a fine for pissing off your neighbor it also shows mercy to the people in the bar when yo're playing and they can leave with their hearing intact
whats the diff between small box and big box... is this an MKII...also whasts the diff between the 72's and earlier and the 75,76 and 77.. toint into the later 70's...im looking at a 1975 ..the guy is asking 1500
ok MK1s are the JMP-45. MKIIs are SLPs, but only ones made up to 71 i think are oficial plexis. the others are bridgepoints between a JCM800 and an SLP
sounds great! for anyone looking to hear some seriously plexi+strat tone, go to harmony central and find the eric johnson-effects vid under the interviews section. He has the tone of the gods.
(Bár kisgyerekük legalább megtanulná mi a jóság. :D)
I suppose this post is too old to ask what the amp seethings were at the time this was recorded? Even a rough guess would help. :)
Thanks
