Historically, odd denominations of bills and coins have been printed, usu. out of some pressing need. A U.S. $3.00 gold piece was issued from 1854 to 1889. Three- and seven-dollar bills were also issued by the Confederacy during the Civil War; by war's end they were worthless--too rough to wipe your butt with and too ugly to use as wallpaper. They do make dandy collector's items nowadays, though.
Also loved the Ross Perot voice for Al Hamilton. "Sad, really."
@alex134219 I'd prefer the Gold Standard. Not a Fiat system where the government can print money at leisure. Too much of a chance for someone to do something detrimental.
so the government can print more money - they can also get more gold or modify coins
Too much of a chance for someone to do something detrimental - gold has no copy protection all you would have to do is melt down some coins and coat some cheap metal that is very similar in weight
also to your first comment - inflation existed LONG before fiat money and it was even one of the reasons for the roman empires downfall
@alex134219 The Roman government fell for many reasons, not simply their currency. It was also the currency that brought them to such a place of power that we can still use them as a reference a millennia and some odd centuries later. If you have gold, then you have money, the gold is what's valuable. All our dollar was is a certificate stating that it represented an amount of gold held in the National Treasury. The dollar now does not relate to anything, I can't fake not having gold.
@Legion719 did I ever say the roman government only fell due to their currency? "it was even one of the reasons for the roman empires downfall" never said it was the only reason
you can say GOLD IS VALUABLE no it isn't the only reason it is valued is because we value it if nobody cared about gold it would just be a weak flake metal that didn't have any real use except in circuitry
their is NO difference between money and gold except gold is nowhere near as safe
@alex134219 Assuming a person's intellectual understanding from their political affiliations is foolish. In honesty, what are you referring to? Our current system is "as stable as a sinking ship in a typhoon" because we're taking on a lot of money. We have more dollars but no "new" money. The private sector isn't producing 'new' money. It's just service industries causing money to switch hands.
@alex134219 OK, I'm done trying to discuss economics and world politics with a bronie. Fact is many world governments have done it in the past to try to help the people, but it's always backfired. Id Est, the Weimar Republic in Germany (around 1920). If you want to talk about the issues instead of casting off strange general insults, please enlighten me to how artificial inflation is helping the economy.
@Legion719 you cant compare hyperinflation of a destroyed economy to normal economics because it is an extreme example of a currency failing
artificial inflation allows an economy to be competitive in the marketplace by raising inflation to a degree that does not hurt goods or services but allows the economy to grow at a faster rate stopping before things get out of hand
also if your gonna harp on me for being a Bronie then fuck off you religious right wing republican
This is absolutely fantastic, really well done. Excellent caricature and animation of President Wilson. And, using a faux Woody Allen voice for President Wilson, is hilarious. Into 'My Favorites' module this goes.
@Brownyman It can be argued easily, that without Woodrow Wilson in the White House involving the US in the First World War, the events that followed would not have led to Hitler taking power.
That's no indictment against Wilson, it just shows how history works...that whole, "for the lack of a nail" theory.
@TiminPhoenix If the US hadn't entered the war, Britain and France would have continued fighting Germany for years past 1918. I get the impression that things were kind of at a stalemate when the US entered. My big problem with Wilson is that he made a campaign pledge that the US would not enter the war.
The world would have been a much better place had Britain and France kept fighting Germany for years past 1918. Let them suffer for their socialism and monarchies, but Republic loving Americans shouldn't have had to die for those parasites. America's entrance into WWI, inexorably allowed Communism and Islam to take over large parts of the world.
@TheFlanker35 The US, France and Britain should not have accepted Germany's surrender so early; Germany should have been invaded and had their villages and cities shelled and burned to give them a taste of what they did to France and Belgium. Then Hitler and other ultra-nationalists wouldn't have had their "stabbed in the back" excuse for losing the war and blaming the Jews.
It's a cartoon people!! Wow, settle down. If you want to do something productive send these "hate" messages to your legislators. Honestly, nobody cares what you're complaining about.
If I decided who was on what: $1- Washington: First in War, First in Peace, First President... First Dollar Bill. $2- Jefferson: One of the oldest president/dollar combos, why change it. $5- Lincoln: He just belongs there... $10- TR: Sorry, Hamilton, you created our treasury, maybe... but TR deserves a Bill. $20- Jackson: Classic. $50- Reagan: He's my least favorite of the "great" but deserves one over Grant. $100- Franklin: Classic.
That sounds about right. Wilson, the progressive bastartd as he was, deservs a phony bill like a $12 note. His $100,000 not is good too, as progressives policies have made that worth about $10 via the printing of money to pay debt.
His progressive agenda was the most damaging thing to our country. 16th and 17th Amendment. 1913 forever changed us for the worse. Damn Woodrow Wilson to the farthest reaches of hell.
@YoungHistorian101 Did you say W. Wilson wasn't that bad? Let's see why that's wrong. Pres. Wilson took the army and segregated the blacks and the whites. He created the Federal Reserve, that which failed at it's job starting on day one (great depression, loss of the gold standard, monetizing our debt, busting bubbles, and 2008's debacle). His idea, the League of Nations, failed then became the UN. The FDA was his and that has been about as successful as if we didn't have it.
no, 16th & 17th were great amendments. How is the 17 amendment, a direct election of US senators, a bad thing, I can see how you dont like income taxes, no one does, but why that?
Because state legislatures appointed the Senators before that. Americans had more leverage with the states then. You deal with problems on a local level, the way the founders had it before. Your Representatives already have the job in DC, your Senators were meant to be directly tied to the states. See how the state's rights dissolve eventually? Too much federal involvement. You lose track of the people of your own state, with that amendment.People take a second seat. We need to keep it local.
@pfizzbones .... And slowly let the Government lose touch and completely have the will of the USA to be completely eroded. Personally, I think it's good to have the Government right where it is.
the treaty wasn't his fault it was Britain and france who wanted that and the us wasn't a super power at that time so they didn't really have a say in the matter. wilson was a good president and every one who says he was the worst need to get educated
@SuperUSMC09 There's educated and then there's learning the actual history. Wilson was a racist, he created gov't programs that didn't work and he wanted to get rid of the US Constitution. Now, if you think that's a good president, you must have loved Nixon.
That was funny, though I still think he was the worst president ever. The treaty of Versailles was the reason why a man like Hitler could come to power.
Wilson didn't approve of the revenge sought by France and Britian on Germany, and the U.S. senate refused to ratify the treaty, dening the U.S. entry into the League of Nations and making it an unworkable oragnazation.
He sounds like Christopher Walkin! And it's true he did not talk like that. He was born in Virginia and was an undeniable racist and sexist but all presidents have their flaws:-) Yes, the 19th amendment was signed after the war but more for public opinion and to reward women who worked during the war than because it followed his own personal beliefs. None the less he was one of the best presidents and I gotta love him because he was a History professor:-)
I NEVER got a chance to watch this show. As far as I remember I only got a chance to watch some of it at around 6:00 AM on certain weekdays. By the time I was 5-6 it wasn't even in syndication. How sad.

The show was all a parody; they were making fun of everything that was historical. I doubt Woodrow Wilson did sound like Woody Allen, but it's just part of entertainment.

I loved reading the encyclopedia and history books but, i also loved the three stooges and looney toons. this was the best of both worlds by far
the IRS, Federal Reserve, a National Draft, entry into a useless war that did not threaten our soverignty, he enacted many laws that were against the first, fourth and fifth adments, among with many other constitutional fallicies.
The last line where he says "I print the moeny" is true on many levels.
well i'm sure even without Willson we'd have gotten involved in the war. Britain asked for our help and it was common practice to assist your allies war efforts. If you don't help them, they won't exactly be inclined to come running to your aid when you need it.
you really should read up on your history. Wilson was unwillingly forced into signing the act that brought about the Fed, and even stated that it would be the end of this country.
not to mention he enacted 16th Amendment allowing a graduated income tax, the 17th which mandated the direct election of U.S senators, the 18th prohibiting alcohol, and the 19th giving women the right to vote
For a "Historical Educational Show" they sure messed up a few things.
The $100,000 bill wasn't a Federal Reserve Note, it was a Gold Certificate. Also, it was used in Bank to Bank transactions. Nobody outside the Federal Reserve or the US Treasury would be able to use it.
They certainly got the fact that the guy was totally full of himself down pat.
I think we SHOULD put him on a bill we see a lot so that we'll be reminded of his MISTAKES. People are always saying that Bush is the worst and that he got us into a war for little to no reason, but we pretty much had no reason whatsoever to get into WWI.
What happened to us? A couple ships with Americans on board got sunk by subs? And we had to send millions of soldiers to their deaths? Way worse than Iraq!
1. Why do you assume that supernoob and I are white? I am, but I don't know about him, which doesn't matter: If you think of things only in terms of race, then it doesn't matter if you support minority causes, because it's just as bad as regular racism.
2. What are you even talking about in the first place? Reagan wasn't a racist at all. Maybe he wasn't the best we've ever had, but he sure as hell didn't discriminate against minorities.
wow the child labor joke was bold, nearly the quality of some of the old jabs you'd here on the simpsons. i miss this show, its a shame kids now don't get to see things like this anymore.
It kinda matches his personality, however.. an intelligent but a little scatter-brained. I'd be more worried about Alexander Hamilton's KFC Colonel accent.

you really should read up on your history.

Anyone remember that FDR Gold Standard Song put to the tune of "Goldfinger"?

I would totally sign a petition to get Histeria! on DVD. That would be awesome. I loved this show as a kid.
valleyval 3 years ago
wish i could find a way to see this again that AOL way doesn't work for me
drsjohnny 3 years ago
This was a great show. They should make a petition to have it put on DVD.
bluecatcinema 3 years ago 2
Funny you should mention that; I've been managing that petition since June 2006, and we've already got 675 signatures.
FroggoFan64 3 years ago
Where is this petition? I'll sign it if you give me the site location.
bluecatcinema 3 years ago
ill sign it and even facebook group it, we can def get a million people, try me ;)
pinaej0 3 years ago
They certainly got the fact that the guy was totally full of himself down pat.
I think we SHOULD put him on a bill we see a lot so that we'll be reminded of his MISTAKES. People are always saying that Bush is the worst and that he got us into a war for little to no reason, but we pretty much had no reason whatsoever to get into WWI.
What happened to us? A couple ships with Americans on board got sunk by subs? And we had to send millions of soldiers to their deaths? Way worse than Iraq!
TBustah 3 years ago
Well the Zimmerman Telegram played a role too. But yeah, why were we there?
karnman 3 years ago
There's actually some convincing evidence that it was a forgery designed to get us to sign up.
kendobunny 3 years ago
Does anyone else notice here that Woodrow Wilson in this sketch sounds like Woody ALLEN?
mtigers1981 3 years ago
That's the joke dude, Pepper even calls him "Woody".
TBustah 3 years ago 2
stfu raiders fan...everyone know Ronald Reagan was the greatest president in history
supernoob72 3 years ago
Totally. If any 20th century president deserves to be on a bill, it's Reagan.
I actually just went to his museum a couple weeks ago, it was awesome.
TBustah 3 years ago
he's great to u white ppl, but to the rest of us.
peterparker12 3 years ago
Okay Pete, two things:
TBustah 3 years ago 3
Reagan's "welfare queen" line was always a racist dog whistle.
DrMonday 3 years ago
Whatever man, but don't forget who it was that signed the bill to make MLK's birthday a holiday.
He couldn't be a TOTAL racist.
TBustah 3 years ago 2
Top 15 perhaps but not the "greatest", especially in all of history.
karnman 3 years ago
Why didn't this show point out that Woodrow Wilson was a racist.
raiderfan14943 3 years ago
'Cause it wouldn't have been a good thing to mention on a kids' show.
FroggoFan64 3 years ago 3
Oh I see, they don't make a bill larger than 100 anymore
Sheik864 3 years ago
wow the child labor joke was bold, nearly the quality of some of the old jabs you'd here on the simpsons. i miss this show, its a shame kids now don't get to see things like this anymore.
dkori 3 years ago 9
Whoa, a 100,000 dollar bill exists? I thought it only went up to a thousand
Sheik864 3 years ago
There was one untill the 30's and all bills over $500 ended in 1969.
karnman 3 years ago 2
I learned a lot of history from this show. This is so funny
PhoenixAngel429 3 years ago
OMG BIG FAT BABY! LOL I want a 12 dollar bill so I can pay my laboring children for a twenle hour work day HA classic!
rynesanders8 4 years ago
That was so funny.
PhoenixAngel429 3 years ago
Woodrow Wilson was from Virginia...he would not have sounded like Woody Allen
BuffaloIan 4 years ago
It kinda matches his personality, however.. an intelligent but a little scatter-brained. I'd be more worried about Alexander Hamilton's KFC Colonel accent.

woodrow wilson = woody allen
i love it
