Sorry to bother you again. I realise my constant questions must be getting very annoying. I was just wondering if you could tell me where you got your tube fly holder attachment for your vice. I've looked all over and can't find it anywhere. Another great fly by the way. Your videos have really helped to improve my tying!
Red is the most popular of the Francis patterns. other colurs like black and olive are good as well but I'm sure whatever colour you tye this fly in it will catch fish especially orange. What I fancy tying is a two tone version like red & black, green & black and orange & yellow bodies with a hackle to suit..
What you do with this fly is to thread the nylon through the tube and tye the hook of your choice on, like a single double or treble and by using the copper tube it will present your fly as deep as you want to the fish depending on the speed of the water, it can be a deadly fly to use...
The board that I use to allow the tubes to dry I made myself with two pieces of backing card the same size then on one of them I pushed through dress-making pins, then using the other card tape it to the botton of the card with the pins giving them support.. I have used them for years and like you could see it does a great job...
i dave just getting in to tying the fly but evry time i do the hackle it seems fine and when i put the wool on it makes the hackle streeky (wee gaps in between clumps of fur).
I wouldn't worry too much with the hackle being perfect, at times I will rap the hackle round the wool then wind both together up the body which will give you a patchy look which is fine, but if you are still not happy then try and use the softer hackles from the back of the saddle cape which will give thicker and fuller fibres...

Hello, Davie
Big fan of yours. Can you make them in hot orange, or red is the best colour for that fly?

I like the "drying " board you have shown.... is this a home made/DIY or was it an item from some tackle store??..... Avalon

Let me know how you get on...
