Tusen takk fra Norge. Jeg elsker alle de tre operaene i denne triologien. Akhnaten er jo en fasinerende historisk figur. Og Philip Glass maler med stemning og føleser. Nydelig :o)
Interesting harmonies in this. I'd forgotten how lyrical Glass can be at times. I saw Akhnaten in '85 or so in London and it was spectacular. Seem to remember Akhnaten walking backwards up a lot of steps whilst singing.
I wish there were a complete Video of this scene. I think that it would create a revival of interest in "Akenenaten." It is wonderful piece-- beautiful from beginning to end, which is not always true of Glass' later operas. Youtube does have about two minutes of the prayer in one submission. Again, i hope a complete video scene emerges from somewhere.

Those with a passion for history or literature might be interested to know that this is a translation into English of Akhenaten's own poetry, "The Great Hymn to the Aten".

I don't understand people who think this the weakest of the trilogy, it is breathtaking, a remarkable thing!- Charles

Philip Glass is a World Treasure. His mind is more vast than my writings.
