sooo cool!!!! i visited venice for the first time 43 years ago and it still rocks, anyone remember POP it was the coolest thing back then, Very Good vid.
Reminds me of home, I didn't grow up in Venice but its sorta like the areas I grew up in, pretty much from San Clemente to Balboa. Thanks for making this, it was nice =)
Number 9, number 9. I like this version just as much, maybe more. It's like a going on a trip down the street but you only remember bits and pieces in your mind. The waves of sounds from harsh to pleasent. A cool effect would be to walk past a club on that street and hear a tiny bit of The Doors playing faintly in the background. Then as you walk away it fades. Like the passing spirit of the band. Can you tell that I'm a Doors fan? Ha. Too bad about the Venice Video. This is better.
I remember the Venice video, it was superb. I think I may like this one as well.....maybe even better. It's the ambient sounds that you captured. In fact, if you removed the image and just played the audio....it could take you to Venice Beach.
Thanks again, Pat. You're brilliant, we're lucky to have you. Cheers!
What a trip and I didn't need any LSD lol! It ended too soon....Well as so many good things and times in Life. We could feel the Love for and that you've put in this video about Venice California.
Yes, the bumper sticker. Do you think they like Bukowski so much that they would rather be reading his books than anything they're doing at the moment?
Venice certainly looks like a beautiful place, Pat, and this is terrific footage. Here in Seattle, there are many street performers, interesting people, and things to see like you have shown here.
There is a house just north of downtown, which you can see from I-5 that has Betty Paige painted on it's side, and fills the entire wall. Under the freemont bridge, there is a huge sculpture of a troll with a grip on an actual Volkswagen bug. Endless art, sights, and adventure.
That's me in the video. My hair was longer back then. I was wearing glasses (I don't wear my contact lenses to the beach). And yes...I have man-boobs.

Love your "walk past a club" visual. I'm glad you like this one better. That counts for something.

I don't understand that bumper sticker.

"I'd rather be reading Bukowski".
See the movie "Barfly".
patflix 2 years ago
I've seen it before and I've read all of his novels. Pat, please remind me where that quote is from and give me your take on it. Thanks.
WhiteHatCowboy 2 years ago
I'm sorry. This one slipped through the cracks. What quote are you referring to? Are you talking about the bumper sticker?
patflix 2 years ago
Yes, the bumper sticker. Do you think they like Bukowski so much that they would rather be reading his books than anything they're doing at the moment?

Great footage... especially the guitar guys.

I felt kinda guilty when I edited the original. Ya know...removing the street musicians audio and replacing it. How Rude!
Thanks Steve.
patflix 2 years ago
@patflix It's like the way you ended this, it is so sensitive.
You posted both versions and they both stand up quite brilliantly, I will always admire your skills.

Rick.....If you haven't already done so, maybe you could shoot some of the sites you mentioned. I'd love to see them.

a fine bit of shooting and editing - it was like summer was back again for 5 minutes!

Thanks. Funny thing is, it's not much different now as it was back in August. We don't really have seasons in So.Cal.

Cool vid. Liked how it was pieced together. Was rather.. calming.

Thanks David. If I can calm you down after a day of shoveling snow, then I know I've done my job.

This is great. :) It doesn't transport me in quite the same way as Mr Morrison always seems to manage though.....
Loreleila 2 years ago
I agree. This is just extra material. The "Venice" video with Morrison's poetry as the soundtrack is the one I stand by. Thanks Cathy.

very cool, reminds me of Christiania in Denmark but much cleaner and hip. :)
Robfoxman 2 years ago
I just looked up some pictures of Christiania. Very interesting. Venice isn't as clean as these videos might suggest. But it's pretty damn hip.
patflix 2 years ago
If you ever get to europe, visit Christiania: Its like going back with a time machine to 1968 and all that comes with the hippie era. ^^
