Aw... I love this movie, and so does my father! Whenever we talked about it, we could never remember its name, so i used to call it "the jenny hayden movie"! LOL... all i could remember was the way jeff bridges called her "jenny hayden" all the time! LOL...
@IIVIU you are a fucking retard to say no one ever heard of this movie. You're only 23 years old you little shit. I remember this movie when it hit theatres and was all over HBO, Showtime, The Movie Channel, and Cinemax as a kid, well before you were even born or still crapping in your hands and rubbing it on your face. Jeff Bridges is pretty fuckin famous and it does surprise me that I haven't seen this movie on TV for a long time. It's better than most of the shit hollywood makes now.
I always remember about the signal lights when he's learning how to drive from her. Very funny way to see sometimes how we do wrong things and then expect others not to do it.
I have had the vision of this movie in my mind since I was a little kid and could never remember it. Those little balls of light in his hand do all kinds of things right? Isn't there one part where he is in trailer being towed by a truck and some girl is hurt and he heals her with his balls..... Wow that came out wrong.
@flatblackstrat I thought it was a wonderful film, I recall that when they go in to a cafe, he brings a deer back from the dead when he sees it over someones truck, is that the bit you mean?
I used to watch this movie compulsively when I was a kid. The beginning was enough to scare the crap out of me, but the remainder of the movie always moved me emotionally.
Epic Movie! One of Jeff Bridge's finest performance in my opinion.
John Carpenter creates a classic 80's Sc-fi fantasy well worth watching and never get tired of seeing.
I went to the crater in this movie the year before the movie came out and let me tell you to see it in person is unbelievable, tv screen does not do justice and also stopped in the store at the end before they go to the crater scene and the store is just like it is in the movie.
This is still one of my all time favorites. I love his innocence, & watching him learn "our ways". Like the scene where he is driving & speeds through the yellow light, because "red is stop, green is go & yellow means go faster".
yes could have been. i think those and blackholes move around. thats not good for us though. on a universe scale mathmatical wise many planets like earth have been swallowed sadly.
one thing that was unrealistic about the movie was the voyager 2 prob thing. it said out reaches of the univers. err voyager 2 hasant even reached the closest stars yet and its almost 2010 now. it just reached the outer bowshock of our systems star which is a long ways but a far cry from the outer universe. guess they had to say something for the story line lol.
one of my fav movies. i liked it because its based on real science except theyre is 10,000 years or prob a lot more ahead and better than this primitive is now.
i bet theyre world has no money and doesnt feature the haves always having way to much and have nots never enough crap.
One of my favorite movies, along with The Last Starfighter and Star Wars and the rest. Who's up for another viewing of Starship Troopers based on the Robert Heinlein book? When is Hollywood going to make a good movie like this, based on Heinlein's other great book, "Stranger in a Strange Land"??
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's not that good, there's not much action or romance. Jeff Bridges's performance is pretty good, though, and it has a nice score. But there's nothing you've not seen before.
Don't know what movie you were watching panacea999; cuz Starman is one of the best movies on both genres!
No, it's not as much action as a Die Hard type of movie, but it was never meant to be that.
It's a sweet & innocent comedy about an alien learning about life & love here on Earth. The action & romance are fit to that theme. I think the romance is one of the sweetest kind's there is; since it isn't based entirely on sex appeal, like most of today's films are. It's sincere & beautiful.
I just can't believe the all over the world appeal & response this movie, & the TV show, get! But THANKS for all the great comments, cuz it really is a show that deserves the praise! ^_^
I loved this movie and it's still a favourite; however I had no idea they did a tv series following the movie.. I never saw it and it's a shame they cancelled it ~ apparently from what I just read on another comment....
It only had 1 season; which was a great shame cuz Robert Hays & CB Barnes performances as Starman & his son were perfection! It got the Family Guy treatment..moved around to diff time slots so, unless u followed it around, u couldn't really become a regular watcher. I was in the group that wrote to get it back, but the network just ignored us. If u look at my other video, u can see that even today -20 years later!- people still love it! ^_^
I think the TV series did a wonderful job as a sequel! It's just a shame that they canceled it so quickly. The wonderful message of a decent father/son relationship was inspiring & endearing. U just don't see it in today's shows anymore. One of my fav movies & TV shows! ^_^
Starman is just so emotionally enthralling that any remake would be a sin. The Movie stands alone on it own, however a posthumous sequel of the Visitor and Jenny Hayden offspring might work well. Karen Allen can holdoff on her sweaters and scarves, works of art for awhile, and make another hit. Make everybody happy
That was a magical scene - I watched the whole film on video on Sunday and blubbed most of the way through it. JennyHagan called the hunter a bozo - I could think of a lot worse and truer words than that. That was a wonderful scene (if only real life could be like that) from a wonderful film.
Jeff discussed it with Karen. I sent script myself back in 98 to Neil, his manager. No reply, ever!! Shame. Even on the dvd commentary he Jeff and carpenter talk about coming back for more. I'd love to see feature sequel.
long overdue if carpenters too old & stupid to respond ever! keep sending it to others as well this was sci fi ailen romance at it's very very best! -_-

Half the humans in this movie were good, the other half not so good. I guess the "Starman" still had faith in humans, overall, though.

but ofcourse, the alien looks exactly like a human
that's what you call the utter low of buget and cliche, how very convenient to have the alien look and act exactly like a human
that's why almost no one heard of this movie unlike good ones
