  • It seems logical that this statistical approach to finding value will work during the regular season. It will smooth out the peaks and valleys. However, I wonder if it will work in the playoffs when facing the more premium players. Great movie. And good luck A's - rooting for ya.

  • "we're not selling jeans here." The book was really great.

  • fuck espn

  • 1:49 fan of the century :D

  • This is such a great movie. And billy beane is an inspirational icon. Now if only my home-team, the Detroit tigers, tried this instead signing fielder $214 million for a 9 year contract.

Oh man I hope it's worth it.

  • espn sucks..

  • @brantleyfoster5115 what if you woke up one morning and wanted to see the recap of the game? what if there was no top ten? what if there was no espn? the sports world wouldn't be the same.

  • @webk109 The sports world would be better without espn. they only show show you highlights they want you to see.. usually centered around what game they are showing that night. frauds.

  • U guys need to look up " Sandy Alderson"

  • That team was successful because of 5 players: Zito, Mulder, Hudson, Chavez, Tejada..after the big 3 was broken up, Billy and his team went down the hill. So starting pitching is the real key here.

  • @SOLIDSNAKEXXX360 yeah we should trust you over the guy that changed the game. good plan

  • I have great respect for Beane & the way he built that team, but Oakland versus the Yanks in 2000, 2001 & versus Boston in 2003 each year lost games due to fielding mistakes. Fielding isn't as overrated as people think, especially in the cases concerning the A's since they were routine plays they botched up, & they ran the bases badly too. I just think it's ironic that one of the things Moneyball is implying is that fundamentals are overrated, yet the A's were undone by them.

  • @dzanier Defense is a whole different story. As with offense and batting, everyone has their own idea of a good swing. In this case, Beane created a theory that it doesnt matter how or why a batter gets on base, its just about how much they get on base, providing them with a greater chance of runs.

  • I know and the theory has lots of merit.

  • @dzanier The fundamentals were overrated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not important. That's why the A's couldn't make it all the way, but The Red Sox could a couple of years later.

  • Even though certain fundamentals caused the A's to not get past the Yanks twice and the Sox once, what they did was still INCREDIBLE. Fundamentals might be overrated especially with teams like the 98 Yanks or 2001 Mariners, who were that much better in areas that require skill, not hard work and repetition. It is however very ironic that in 2000, 01 and 03 mistakes of the fielding and running variety were directly responsible for the A's not advancing.

  • Terence Long's bad read on Tino Martinez' s three-rbi double in the first inning of Game 5 in 2000 really comes to mind, as do the bad-throws made in Game 5 in 2001. As far as Jeremy Giambi's getting thrown out on the flip by Jeter in 2001 in Game 3, that's such a once in a lifetime play that I can't even harp on the fact that Giambi didn't slide, though he should have. I admire Billy Beane a lot.

  • I thought the Royals or Pirates were at the bottom, not the A's. Maybe those two teams can take a tip from the A's. And the Twins and Rays have done it as well like Oakland. But the bad thing and bottom line is with the exception of the Marlins, you don't have to be a last place team because of low payroll, but you probably won't be able to win the World Series either.

  • Why does everyone forget that the Marlins kicked the Crap out of the NY Yankees, and WON the stinkin' World Series? They not only made it there, but they won it all and made the Yankees look silly. With all due respect to the Yanks, there can not be ANY more of an UNDERDOG SHOWING UP KING KONG THAN THAT. The players salaries and ages were so lop-sided to the Yankees side, it was mind-boggling. But once again S. Florida was the center of attention; for something different than the CHADS.

  • Correction. Sabermetrics. And the guys name is Peter Brand

  • @9beast0

Peter Brand is a fictitious character loosely based on Paul DePodesta.

  • It's not about how many ships he won who cares? This man along side the guy Jonah hill is playing I forgot his name I think it was peter something, changed the game forever teams are not only copying there methods of the symetrics or whatever they call it I simply call it moneyball but they can in deed save more than half there money for recrutes because of the what?? Undervalued slugger percentage, how often they get on base , good offense. He changed this game forever. Possibly other sports.

  • there are rich teams and there are poor teams then theres 50 feet of crap and the theres us

  • I'm 2,615!! Suck it!

  • How many WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS did billy win people???? ZERO

  • @TheChickenmaster77 I think you've missed the whole point, have you seen the movie?

  • @TheChickenmaster77 who cares, he revolutionized the way major league baseball teams are built.

  • Billy Beane strategy dig up good not great players. bulid em up !

sell em off to big market teams pocket the money! great scam he's got going!

he got a movie out of it and Oakland gets? what a new Multi million dollar ballpark in

FREMONT? here is to the new fremont a's and moneybags beane.

  • @pinfold1000 How does Billy Beane pocket the money? You don't sell players in MLB? This isn't European Football, it's baseball. The A's get draft picks every time a player signs somewhere else. They also trade their best players for younger, undeveloped players who some day will be good too.

  • @pinfold1000 someone always comes up with a conspiracy theory.....

  • Billy Beane is a genius

  • first.
