  • who the fuck can dislike such a beautiful song???

  • Beautiful , haunting , Celestial. What more can be said of DP MK1 ?

DP finest hour was while Lord set the tone . And as long as Rod Evans was the vocalist .

  • ONE OF THEIR BEST

  • @lizzl85 I dont believe in things like exorcisme .I think it was her illness.I saw the movie also and she had epilepsy. But movies like "the exorcist" and other are just horror movies.I have to learn german .Why does everibody has to speak englisch??

  • @lizzl85 I saw the movie Regieum" about German girl butt I dont think that has something to do with devils or goast or whatever. It was sad for the girl who has epilepsie.

  • @dawn5708 i know! i wrote a skilled work about anneliese michel! it is really, really sad what happened to her. and it is sad that a movie like "exorcism of emily rose" entitles itself to be based on a true story! i mean... watch that movie!!! it's ridicoulus how they steal her dignity...

(i hope that was proper english... at least kind of... ) ^^

  • from movie "REQIEUM"

  • @dawn5708 to be honest... that's how i found out about this song a few years ago and i instantly loved it... ;)

  • Reading the lyrics posted by piojosachilena makes me despair at the lack of poets in modern rock/pop music. So many lyrics these days are lazy, lack sense and logic, repeat words to fill in gaps or add in "hey" or "yeah" or "well" etc.

  • @tobyone07 you're correct, but mind you that only the best sruvive through ages. there was lots of crappy poetry during the DP times too, but they vanished, while the best ones reached us. I hope so much that 40-50 years from now people'd be able to say "thank you" words at least to some music from the generally cheesy generation of musicians and poets today...

    i love it! ^_^

  • the first time i ever heard this song was on the movie "Requiem" ='),

    i love this song

  • Anthem is art song of the highest; luscious layers of orchestra Medieval vocals, Baroque organ solo, violin solo, cello continua, a full whole tone rest that is simple, supreme brilliance; transcendent Rock and Celtic blend of genres used like voices; percussion and guitar majestic bridges to heaven; throughout it, Rod Evan's voice just rocks around it all -- great mix of deep and deeper fine wine aging

  • This song takes me back to such a heartbreaking time . . . the stupid cow, I wonder what loser she ended up with.

  • Does anybody else think Rod Evans sounds kind of like Justin Hayward from the Moody Blues?

  • @TheSubstituteGnome I think he sounds a bit like bobby liebling, from pentagram :)

  • one of my most favorites

  • @GivingYouFace Excellent movie.

  • This song hurts like a cold winter's day.It is that good.

  • "Anthem" means "song against devotion or loyalty" in English.

  • Música.

thanks so much for this beautiful, beautiful special song...

    Greetings from Israel....

  • Book of Tal tamed the minor rock mode so that we can hear it, understand it, and then feel it deep, oh so deep; it is good to feel, really feel again, see and love what we are feeling -- the art of feeling and knowing what we feel -- liberate our soul from the confines of the mind

  • hermosa melodía.....me transporta....¡¡¡¡¡viva Chile!!!!

  • This is so unbelievably beautiful!

  • holiday dating site # lushfmlk.info #

  • timeless : takes us far away into our soul, our fidelity, our swan, passion, still, deep as one can go -- when dad died ... when anyone leaves -- this song may bring those tears, laughter, closing ceremonies -- how gracious, profound, humane -- When I reach out my hand -- through my open window -- night winds softly blow : ahm

  • I LOVE this song to bits since I was a little kid (I think the first time I heard it I was like 6); you won't find something like this delicacy so easily.

  • Just found out about this song yesterday from the film 'Requiem', where it's used to stunning effect. I never thought much of Deep Purple, but this song gets me.

  • @hamfisto the Requiem trailer is how I found this song...well that and an iPhone app that tells you the name of what you're hearing.

  • Absolutely brilliant anthem from the early DP lineup.

  • When the night wind softly blows through my open window Then I start to remember the girl that brought me joy Now the night wind softly blows sadness to tomorrow Bringing tears to eyes so tired Eyes I thought could cry no more If the day would only come Then you might just appear even though you'd soon be gone When I reached out my hand If I could see you If only I could see you To see if you are laughing or crying When the night winds softly blow
  • ohhh glorious!! glorious!!!

  • totally agree!

  • This song is my all-time favourite Rock Anthem and has been since its original release.

  • Anyone who thinks he sounds like Elvis is either deluded, needs a new deaf aid..or both.

  • Man, I just can't stop listening to his voice. Phenomenal. Love you Rod. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • @Lobsterlady2362

    Yep phenomenomenomenal :-)

  • This song toghether with April for me the Highlights from mark 1.

Always wonder what DP would've been capeble of if they would go on as a more classical orientated band, instead of the hard rock music they produce nowadays.

Not that i don't like the hardrock side of the band from the mighty mark 2.

But i think al the line-ups of DP have there charme ;) .

  • Rod Evans somtimes sounded like Elvis. Purple at that time was much more versatile than later when they were pressed by Ritchie to go only towards Hard, hard Rock, which was big time also. I was wandering what could have been done with Purple with more Blues Rock and other items.

  • Especially in the very final episode when the girl was sitting on the bench staring afar. Great movie!

  • When I saw the movie "Requiem"

I was impressed by this song..

  • @jpvandh DO U HAV THE MOVIE???

  • Yes, me too!

This movie made me know this song!

I like it very much :)

  • This Was A Spezial Tyme- When Balladz Were Not Written Only For Gold- But For The Essence Of True Rock and Roll. Lissen to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zep, and Gain Musical Appreciation. Thou Shalt Level Up in Life!!!

  • @markinlc I can't give you more thumbs up because YouTube won't allow me. Totally agree with you, bro. The '70s were the best.

A song of all that we believe in. Amen. Viele Grusse aus San Diego.

  • I always thought it sounded just like elvis also, and just a beautiful song to listen to, a deep purple classic that I have never heard anyone be able to reproduce as it originally sounded

  • Rod Evans sounds a bit like Elvis Presley did around that time...

  • A masterpiece.

  • Does anybody know who was playng violin and chello,i can't find any information!

    Τhe greek word for anthem

  • Oh Fuck! I've Wanted This...!! Thanks By Up!

  • You know, the thing is, MK II was so hugely successful that the original lineup and the 3 albums got forgotten. But actually, I think that the early work of Purple (esp. Album no. 3) is absolutely noteworthy.

  • I preffered this mark 1 Deep Purple to all the others ! I thought Rod Evans had a great Voice !

    Love the 3 mark 1 albums !

  • Me too! My parents are opera singers and they too say Rod had superb voice material!

    Love this song

  • Funnily enough my Dad's a tenor and he rates Rod Evans. I just liked them at this stage cos they wer'nt catagorisable. They were a style in thier own right. And a good one !

  • i had been looking for this lp for years. told a friend about it an she got me a cd thats what u call a friend.

  • This really is Purple. Great! Beautiful! Georgeus!

  • and this one is for that ole shxtty wonderful bxxch who happened to be my only love, fuxk you & rock on fifix

  • Deep Purple, but who is singinig this song???!!!

  • Hello, Rod Evans is singing this.

  • Thank you!!!!

    He has beautiful voice!!!!!

Do you know, where is he now???!!!!

  • He is gone, nobody knows lol, dessapeared, he sang in Captain Beyond after Deep Purple, and never never was seen again.

  • He sang with CB, and afther than he disspered, but in the 80ties made a comeback with a Bogus Deep Purple with only him as the original member, the rest were just unknown musicians.

But Ritchie and Jon found out about this, and sued his ass.

So Rod lost the trail, and afther this failed Fake Purple project, he stoped making music for good.

That's the real story behind his dissaperence.

  • damn another year went by .from 1968 since this song and album were recorded..and time marches on.and on.when i listen to this song i have a feeling im going to where it was recorded.the sound of it transports the listener into that feeling .of seeing the time passing by.and watching over his own life.his memories.love dp mark 1 the night wind .. softly blows.happy new 2009 to everyone!!

  • "the book of taliesym" remains one of the best rock creation of the universe! i still enjoy listenning to deep.p every day...mythical and epic band!

  • I agree with all the comments, when I first heard the book of Tailspin I couldnt believe all the great songs, not only the Anthem, but The Shield, and Kentucky Rain which I still think absolutely sounds as though Elvis was the lead singer. Its a what if, to consider if that lineup could have stayed together. No matter what, long live the Memory of Deep Purple. And oh listen to Hallajeah, talk about another obcure song that is great.

  • Hi, sorry to make a negative comment, but Kentucky Rain is not on Book Of Taliesyn, it's Kentucky Woman, written by Neil diamond, not sing bty Elvis.

    Peace..Happy New Year.

  • Sorry..not sung by Elvis.

  • Yep, as soon as I posted the comment knew I had goofed up on the title, but Elvis should have recorded Kentucky Woman.

  • Not only but in particular this song shows the artistical and lyrical potential of this group in their earlier years. It's indeed a Rock-Anthem!

  • this song is drenched with so much sorrow it makes me weep every time i hear it.its my favorite sentiental song of all time.ive been listening to it for 38 years and never tire of it.

  • damn dude guys like you are worth a lot i mean 38 years .and still loving this stuff.seems that you pretty much grew up .along with the birth of deep purple.me i knew from them on 95.nothing compared to you.if you were my dad.i would love you so much..i realy respect people like you.happy new year by the way

  • i hate to tell you this but i would have to be your mother but thanks for the wonderful compliment. yes, i grew up with all the true rock bands. cream, zeppelin, dp, blue oyster cult etc...it's hard to fit a lifetime of music onto a 4gb mp3.i really like the new rock too though.please don't hold it against me that i'm a she. you have a great new year too, and remember....growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional.

  • well sorry lol.i didnot know you were a female.thats my fault but anyway that would be even cooler .if you are a female listening to this great music..iwould love my mom would listen to deep purple she was more flower power thing.anyway greetings and with all respect have a wonderful day my friend!!

  • thank you, and yes i was a true hippie; still am i guess. you truly are the nicest, most interesting and intelligent person i've had a reply from. hope to hear from you often, maybe on other vids. groovy. lol.

  • thanks for the compliment tough i really apreciate the compliment so much by the way.yes we can be friends anytime.i will send you a friend request and yes united by music we stand!!i never thought i met someone cool right here on youtube.well most of the times people is not friendly at all with each other in youtube.but what the hack.i will send you a friend request enjoy this song while you read this

  • Why isn't this song more well known? It is absolutely wonderful. Thanks Requiem for bringing it back to us.

  • this song came out when there was alot of turmoil with which direction the band wanted to go artistically , rod evans and nick simper were both fired from the group , and there went the lyrical quotient ! , even in live performances , this song is even ignored , what a shame!!! , the whole " book of taliesyn " lp is barely recognized ! , my favorite by deep purple !!!
  • amazing song one of best from deep purple
