I bet they, Rush, cringe seeing this video now. They let themselves almost go commercial and main stream. Now they don't give a shit because they are good and been accepted. I love Geddy Lee yelling on one dvd I have about how he is going to play HIS music and F them.
Geddy must have been having some trouble with his voice that night, seemed a bit off here and there... but also at a generally lower pitch... interesting
@miiwii93 Then do you shed tear regarding music, movies etc? I have a problem with any man that sheds no tear regarding such. I remain Scot-Irish male, meaning I wear kilt once a year. I regard my women as those I protect. Rush remains intelligent band, nothing more.
Abba is there,Tom Petty(I only mention because his tix were 10 bucks during a sold out Rush show)...The Pretenders,seriously?..the influence they had over the top drummer and bassist alive Fucking today?...Give me a break Rolling Stone
@kroft67 Trust me I have thought about it. I love LL, however? Rush should own the Hall. They are better than Led, sorry to say so, but they are. LL actually changed my thought pattern back in the day, love the guy.
@superunt43 Rush is awesome, they're musical geniuses, they're technically superior to most bands, they're lyrics are thought-provoking/profound-BUT... not better than Led. As much as I like Rush, they lack the societal impact that Zeppelin has and the diversity in musical genres that Zeppelin mastered. Even though Rush is still an active band-Zeppelin (who haven't played together in years) still get more air time on most rock stations. I want Rush in the hall, too, but don't rip on Zeppelin.
@kochevar Rush is third in consecutive gold or platinum albums sold behind Beatles and Stones. I'd say that's a pretty strong societal impact, wouldn't you? And because they don't get as much radio play, it makes it even more significant. But this is art, and it's subjective, so none of that matters. You should lose the word 'better', because it doesn't apply to discussions like this. Just listen to what you like.
This band is such a freakin well oiled machine. A perfect damn show everytime. Huh, guess I'd know, I've seen em 17 times now. And they kick ass every damn time. Uhhh, ok, the sound sucked in TN in 95. Wow, in fact, this was the first show/ tour I saw Rush. My God, I was still in freakin High school..
Rush-The Thinking Man's Band. What makes them so great is that although they are obviously serious professionals at making excellent tunes that still hold true today lyrically and still stand out musically, they also know how to have fun. Case in point: Lerxst just chilling on top of his amp @1:12 and just jamming while acting like everything is hunky dory. You can't help but love these guys for their musicianship as well as their sense of humor.
Grace Under Pressure was perfect for the time it came out. I loved it then and i love it now. Still my favorite album from Rush. Remember driving thru the west Texas and New mexico deserts listening to this on a mini cassette player......what great memories I will never forget.
I think if I could attend one Rush concert from any tour it would be this one. Geddys voice sounded great and the song list would be loaded with stuff from my favorite period, 1980 to 84. Excellent sound on this clip!
Neil is not genius. He's an android from the 25 century. Looking back its easy to seam like a prophet.
Evidence: plays the same as he did in 1976. If you learn the "beats" then you still hear them today. 2|4..6\8 or whatever Alex came up with. He can do it.
Once right, then he puts it on a track. Why change it when u have perfection, even 30 years later.
One of my top faves from Rush! They are truly incredible live. Their absence from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame just goes to further prove what a joke it really is. No Kiss, no Yes, no Cheap Trick....., but.....Donna Summer gets nominated??
Wish the DVD had shown Alex playing his blood red Strat with chrome pickguard. I remember him playing it on the GUP tour and reflecting the lights toward people as he played. Looked like a beam of light shooting out of his guitar. Ah, yeah, the glory days...
Everything is so perfect and clear...just listen to that steinberger bass hum, that fender sing, the taurus pedals, those tama drums...rush should never have strayed from this winning formula.
you wanna know how good Peart is. listen at 2:20 when he comes in early. i call it a "giddy up" its an absolutely artful entry into the chorus. love this band.
This video is proof positive that the bass guitar can be the "lead" instrument! I LOVE the bass and also love Ged's voice in this tune (and also in Witch Hunt from the same tour). It's got a different richness/tone than usual. Rush is #1.
I love it from like 1:10 to a little after that you can see Alex going up to getty like I hate this, if you listen he plays the Bass as he walks up to Getty, basicly saying Can we rock please
