Benn one of the most inspirational people I have met :) his wife and himself spoke to us on Saturday night past and you can still see how badly this affects him yet he is still living for God :) An amazing man with an even more amazing testimony!
I don't agree with the killing of animals for amusement, like with the dog-fighting allegations against McClellan, but is it really fair to say he got what he deserved? Not to justify it, but he was a young man who made stupid decisions. Have we not all been there? I wouldn't wish McClellan's current state on anyone, no matter what they had done.
I remember watching this fight. It was a great era for middleweight/super middleweight boxing. Very sad for both boxers obviously more so McClellan. After several similar injuries and deaths in the 80's/ 90's lessons have been learned and fewer boxers are suffering in the same ways due to better refereeing and cornermen unafraid to pull their fighters out and with better systems of weigh loss and control in place to preventing sudden dehydration which was a major factor in many cases.
boxing is boxing.... they all know the risks... although in my opinion i think the majority of these incidents are down to making weight... its very rare you hear of this happen in the heavyweights.(where 13st 8 and above is allowed)
Regardless of McClellan being abused by the Boxing authorities who have seeminly turned there back on him by not providing adequate funding/pension if supposedly Benn found God and had 'seen the light' then the man should have gifted/contributed some of his purse for that fight to McClellans care. I don't agree with the killing of animals for amusement, like with the dog-fighting allegations against McClellan, but is it really fair to say he got what he deserved? I remember watching this fight. It was a great era for middleweight/super middleweight boxing. Very sad for both boxers obviously more so McClellan. After several similar injuries and deaths in the 80's/ 90's lessons have been learned and fewer boxers are suffering in the same ways due to better refereeing and cornermen unafraid to pull their fighters out and with better systems of weigh loss and control in place to preventing sudden dehydration which was a major factor in many cases.
