  • Luckly solar panels are cheaper now.

  • can anyone tell me when this will be on next on t.v

or if i can view the complete video on the interwebs.

  • Great movie...a lot of the effects they showed from oil being completely cut off are similar to what happens when there is a gradual oil shock...

  • This shows what happens IF oil competely runs out... But one thing they fail to mention is the same thing can happen if the economy crashes and oil becomes too expensive. This is just getting people ready for what is about to happen. So when it does happen people are acclimated to the idea... because after all.... IT WAS ON TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So ddt has caused or been linked to zero deaths. The health concerns are not conclusive enought to warrant a ban on ddt to 863,000 malaria deaths a year

  • @SlaughterWings - You've been posting comments for an hour. Go get a life. And watch "The Most Terrifying Video You'll Ever See". Maybe you can get smarter after watching it.

  • Uh... What about alternative fuels? Like burning hemp oil is more energy efficient and cleaner to burn than fossil fuels.... And makes ethanol look like a joke. What about having your own garden? Local hydroponic organic gardens? This is pure pro-oil propeganda..... I'm dissappointed in National Geographic for posting this waste of time.

  • its not propaganda its just the truth its not pro-oil . All it says is that right now oil makes up a large and irreplaceable part of our engery and economy

  • because we're afraid of investing in change. The people that have money in oil (politicians - mostly republicans), would lose too much. Its all about $. Everyone cares more about $ than having a habitable planet in a few hundred years. Because our small brains cant comprehend that far ahead as being consequential.... If they put the same money and effort into alternative energy, you would find that a balance would be reached and we would reach a more sustainable way of life.

  • @mushugai This show is just propaganda to scare people so they are willing to pay any price for gas. It's almost like a threat that you cant live without oil.

And you're right, the oil industry will never allow solar or anything to become affordable unless they control it.The wind turbine industry is already controlled by GE.

  • @themeaningoflife38 No this is just preparing people for what is to come when this fake ass economy finally goes tits up. Oil wont run out, but it will be far to expensive for anyone to afford. And the US will rip itself apart ala MAD MAX.

  • our ancestors are looking down on us and laughing because they've survived with so little, with basic and natural things and here the media is complaining about electricity...get a candle! Stop trying to scare the public. Yes we can live without oil, our ancestors did.

  • We should be laughing at ourselves in ten years time. Once we realize we have no choice but to switch to cleaner energy and sustainable local foods and goods. If we can get the move in that direction before its too late.

  • yes and currently already happening but global climate change or warming or whatever you call it is well being descreditied as a scam more and more each and every day. tell me can solar or wind or hydro power plants even produce half as much as coal or nuclear ? No they cant ? hmm so have you found something that makes power better then coal or nuclear , oil right now ? you know how we could replace coal and oil BY using nuclear power

  • yes and good luck you can go right ahead with that our ancestors also only lived into they 40s if they were luckily to even reach that. So good luck with that

  • totally beyond the point. This isnt about going back to rubbing sticks together and sitting around a drum circle singing kumbaya. This is about ending mass consumption and trading it with a sustainable way of living. Even in our huge complex society. Im exhausted from the amount of idiots on the internet... I stop commenting now....

  • This would only be true if it oil just disappear over night...

  • So true! If oil was faded out and replaced with cleaner, more efficient means. We would slowly see nature, the earth, and human kind live a more balanced existance.

  • This insightful video really gives me the chills at what could possibly happen if we do not come up with something to replace oil, really soon. Even though this was just a simulation, it can really happen.

  • this wouldnt happen if ocean water can be used to power things. ..... or more solar power to the world.

  • what if we had a solar powered flashlight?

  • this is scary! i think when people cant find food cannibalism will start to break out & anarchy! (rates 5/5)

  • we really have to go green before this happens

  • @DanielMadrigalC Well... you head is half way in the right place... This is going to happen in the the very near future in fact very soon. When the US economy crashes... and $100 or a $1000 wont buy you a gallon of gas or loaf of bread. In fact CNBC did a report confirming the US military is getting ready for it. And the CEO of Golman Sachs gave an interview to the Huffington Post admitting he is arming his employees in preparing for "civil unrest" when the economy finally goes tits up.

  • Back to using horses and oxen.

  • hahaha, you know nothing of realism! How is the world going to work without suburban/urban areas or coal burning plants, or truck shipping. The truth is that these things are in place the way they are because it is the cheapest way to accomplish them, nothing is going to change until conservation makes sense for the incentives of everyone

  • Hmmmm ... Ever see other modes of transportatoin that move things besides semis? Oh, wait. I guess not. After all, if I said "Articulated Deepwell Intermodal Container Car" you'd say "Lots of mumbo-jumbo."

And conservation does make sense. If you conserve, you spend less money!

How will the world work without suburban and urban areas? Well, it would all go to either urban or rural. It's not hard to imagine. I don't see why you can't imagine it yourself.

  • i think there are other ways of transporting the food to the markets 0.o without the use of fuel... >.> over exagerated

  • Stupidest video that I've EVER seen!

  • i dont see how could this be stupiest video just because it may not happen all at once this is what would happen if oil did run out and oil is not unlimited

  • Just out of curiousity, I wonder if you know where the largest oil reserves (larger than the Middle East by far) are located. Oil will not run out for hundreds of years.

Next you'll be telling me that you think CO2 emissions are the major cause of Global Warming - errrr - I mean Climate Change. It was not all that long ago that they had everyone scared about the imminent Ice age that was coming. Guess they were a little off then also., huh?

  • more fact are point to the fact CO2 is causeing climate change then just saying O its just nature climate change on its own and being blind by your own ignorance. Second do you know how much oil and averge american use in oil in a year a lot so no matter how big of a reserves it will run out.

  • Wait wasnt it climate warming ?

  • How long has the climate change been happening.. Did you perhaps know that the amount of c02 given off by man pales in what is given off my nature. In fact most trees at night give off co2. You actually need some to live. Every creature and plant that takes in oxygen will give off co2 (respiration). So this idiotic idea that co2 is killing the planet is about as likely to be as correct as the earth is flat theory when it was in its hayday. Hookstick graph was fudged tree ring data was as well

  • You cant not prove that man made co2 is effecting the planet at all. Your global warming fraud had to change to global climate change. Becuase there was no warming. Climate change happens all the time through out the course of the planet with out man. You saying man is destroying the planet is like saying not to throw a match in a raging firestrom . So climate change if it is result of co2 is unstoppable because every living creature produces co2 which is like a forest fire to the match of man

  • @SlaughterWings - before man came the temperatures never went as high as now. And besides we're cutting down forests so thats like putting even MORE co2 into the atmosphere.

  • first off all where are you getting your data for such a claim. And how can you make such a claim tree ring date only goes so far and alot of your data is corrupt or lies or fraud. I never said man didnt pollute *THE* earth. But you claim know things when it turns out more and more of it is being debunked. And im saying global warming or climate change is not man made if it even exists and it is fraud it is not made by man.

  • mad global warming. Dont tell me about the fraud match of man made global warming when the whole forest (earth) has been on fire from just living creatures producing said co2. Now global warming happens it is unavoidable. But is not man made if we stopped all c02 right not it would not go down anything a single degree. If that is the case at all. Thank you have a good day

  • The degree would drop if we cut the amount of Co2 and plant more tree so the could trun Co2 to oxygen as newer tree absorb more Co2 then older tree so climate degree would change

  • ummm ok let me explain this simple. everything that breathes. From a toad to cow to a man produces co2 when the breathe in oxygen. Hell even plants at nightmare do it. And you still have yet to show that man made co2 is at all responsible for "climate change" althrough i prefer global warming but that was before the whole decade of the nothing happening. So now its climate change yes. Well prove to me that it is man made climate change if it is actually happening and that it is not naturally

  • We all know that Co2 absorb heat that normal sience will the Co2 that man make is usually form car, power plant, and ect. Those thing all give off C02 that have large pollution in it but natural Co2 don't have pollution in it like acid rain the power plant relase it have lage Co2 but also many other things

  • . The precursors, or chemical forerunners, of acid rain formation result from both natural sources, such as volcanoes and decaying vegetation, and man-made sources, primarily emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)) not co2

  • yes also by natural source but we don't have that many volcanoes go on at once and in nature power plant is not normal so this much Co2 is not normal.

what the point in argument none of us going to change are mine. The only way we will change are mine if some thing big happen like if the oil run out right now

  • Tell me then how much does nature naturally produce ? You still havent proven that global climate change is caused by us at all

  • @SlaughterWings - you know what? You sound like you're trying to say man has never polluted this earth.

  • pollution is the proof

  • Pollution is the proof of global warming <.< well then you better start living like a caveman that means no computer. No pollution is no proof of a warming tempature it is proof of pollution. the temputare global has not risen in 10 years, This global warming fraud is straving and killing people in third world nations. You sound like the people who said DDT couldnt be sent to africa to save lives because it * harms nature* we used it in america did you know that ?

  • have you even read my last comment on the bottom. Then second DDT killed animal that are important to the world and keep it in balence but i bet you didn't know that since you are to busy looking at your point view. You are like the same people during the civil right who care only for your self well thing are happing around you. You simply just what to realize it happing around you and it bad

  • also DDT is poisn that is harmful to human as well. since the animal that eats the insect which like fish which we end up now we cunsuming the same poisn that are killing the insect and is now try to kill us

  • @SlaughterWings - so you're saying we should poison people with DDT? Wow. Hater. How do you explain the record temperatures sweeping through the US throughout the decade? How do you explain the low-oxygen zones that are expanding in the oceans? Even if global warming wasn't real, I don't want to breath in polluted air all the rest of my life produced by coal power plants.

  • OK i will say this again HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED FROM DDT COMPARED TO MALARIA. Malaria in america has all but been wiped out thanks to ddt genuis. So has many other mosquito-borne infectious disease and virus

  • Have you actually have researched coal. It is very clean burning fuel, actually more so then other fuel it can also be refine to burn much cleaner. Hmm low oxygen levels what proof do you have that it is at all related to co2 emissions at all or to global warming for that matter ?

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that in 2008 there were 243 million cases, resulting in 863,000 deaths. About 89% of these deaths occur in Africa, and mostly to children under the age of 5.[80] Spraying DDT is one of many public health interventions currently used to fight the disease. Its use in this context has been called everything from a "miracle weapon [that is] like Kryptonite to the mosquitoes,"

  • The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies it is as a "possible" human carcinogen. These evaluations are based mainly on the results of animal studies.[1][21]

There is epidemiological evidence (i.e. studies in humans) that DDT causes cancer of the:

    Liver[21][32]

    Pancreas[21][32]

    Breast[32] (see below)

There is mixed evidence that it contributes cancer of the:

    Blood (i.e. Leukemia)[32]

    Testis[21][32][73]

    Lymphatic system (i.e. non-Hodgkin Lymphoma)[32][74]

  • In contrast, epidemiological studies suggest that DDT/DDE does not cause cancers of the:

    Plasma, (i.e. multiple myeloma)[21]

    Prostate[21]

    Endometrium[21][32]

    Rectum[21][32]

    Lung[32]

    Bladder[32]

    Stomach[32]

  • none of are mind or any body mind going to give up what they think so there no point in trying to convine you or me. Second get a life you been complaning for days on the subject. DDT kill of animal that keep that nature system balence so it still bad and just because that we only eated a little DDT but image over time.

  • @SlaughterWings - "The science reveals a consistent picture of global change that clearly bears the fingerprint of man-made greenhouse gas emissions," said Peter Stott, head of climate monitoring at the Met Office Hadley Centre for climate research. "Our climate is changing now, and it's very likely human activity is to blame."

    It was on AOL news.

  • LOL yes and wow giving me a biased opnion from someone who is paid only if global exist. LoL give me actually facts instead of biased quotes or can i just point out the clmategate emails to discreidited that

  • AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • don't worry, we are just gonna go mad, start a ww3, population would decrese as a result, and we are all going back to middle ages. and then start overpopulating again. its a vicious cycle

  • this is seriously scary.. im starting to freak!

  • Thats so messed up here i live in Florida and they just go and say Florida is going to be hit the hardest of them all WTF!!!

  • Honestly no joke, i was there in the 1994 hurricane and trust me, if you've been warned you should leave NOW!

  • i say use every thing as much as possible cuz this crisis will not happen in my life time cuz im 80 years old. i usually leave all my lights on and water running 24-7

  • Honestly I do kinda hope the world comes to this, cuz we all know that it's gonna take something extreme like this to gain our independence from oil.

Also all the big oil tycoons will lose their bargaining power. We all know there's always another way to do things (i.e solar, wind, wave, geothermal, hydro fusion) but issues such as profiteering, inflation, and purposly causing scarcity always gets in the way to true progession. The unfortunate truth is: MONEY makes the world go round.

  • WTF FL is the most oil dependent state in the nation could that be bc the state was run by Bush.

With waistful people like the BUSH family it makes you wonder why they call conservatives conservative bc they are anything but.

At first building green tech will create jobs but later it will eliminate jobs but we really don't need as many jobs what we really need is the land to grow food on and education how to grow since hydrocarbon man has lost those skills.

  • When i get my own house, im buying solar panels.

  • good luck, its around 20-50k + for just one panel that will satisfied your house lol

    we learnt that in class

  • @rickiex any thing you didnt "Learnt" in class?

  • Hahaha

  • @rickiex me tooo

we just need to get oil from algie

  • Build a home with a heatpump they use less energy then plan for a solar water heater install a solar oven in the home insulate the home well and try to have some fiber optic lighting. Build facing the south install a wood heater backup that has external airsupply. The est home you could build is a MDI dome home they are near disaster proof use 1/3 the energy of a traditional home and are best suited when it comes to off grid housing. Watch tv dvd etc on lap top they are most efficient LED lights

  • If you use all these tips store water where less pumping is involved you could get a system that cost less bc each KWH has to be generated by solar the less you have to generate the smaller your system can be in turn your initial cost will be far less than we expect to pay today. Water is going to be the largest determining factor as to where to build unless we install desalination plants on the west coast that can supply all those people. We may soon be learning Amish tech to survive.

  • Forget the heat pump. I'm going with a condensing boiler system. Mwahahahahahahaha!

  • one person can not make a difference!

  • There are other alternatives to oil....it would just take us a really long time to find them.

  • @Jessismith2000 Only fusion, it appears..

  • Funny, they just had a story about a new solar power plant coming online.
