  • well done guys, a look at a 1600p monitor done in a 240p video that is low bitrate even for 240p. just fucking outstanding.

  • @penisculatus,

True... but you might want to consider that the video was made 4 years ago. -- Were you taping and editing at 1080p 4 years ago?

All our videos from the past 2 years are in 1080p 60fps.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • This gateway / acer monitor will fail after one year. We have owned 6 of the Dell 30008WFP monitors at work for three years now and they all work perfectly. If you want a brick then buy and Acer or a Gateway!!

  • @llllskywalker,

Sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience with Gateway/Acer. I have a mix of monitors in my lab, from Dell to Gateway/Acer and Sony. While I've had one or two issues with a single Gateway screen, I've been mostly happy. Still, nothing trumps experience and you're point is well taken.

    Fr. Robert

  • When new it's a great monitor - awesome specs and a good picture. But because of a defective Altera ball gate array chip, they almost always go bad after a year or so. Unlike most 30" monitors, the warranty is only 1 year. The XHD3000 uses a certain circuit board that some Samsung computers also used, which has a very high chance of developing a "strobing" symptom. Just looking at what people are saying after they've owned one for a year, it's apparent that something is wrong.

  • I sold this monitor along time ago. I've got the new DELL U3011 30" Screw Gateway they suck ass in general. Gateway is like a Lexmark printer. Move on and play hard......

  • Aren't priests supposed to take a vow of poverty?

  • @TechnicCreations,

I took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience more than 14 years ago as a member of the SJ.

I don't purchase or own any of the gear that is reviewed on 'gadget'- Like all reputable review shops, we receive the tech for a set loan period, during which I can decide if I want to put it on my show. After the review, the gear is either sent back to the manufacturer or donated. (Some manufacturers don't bother with returns of smaller and less expensive items.)

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • @gadgettts Oh

  • This is the best review ever done on this montior aside from it being total crap Fr. Robert knows his stuff! To bad Gateway is an Epic Failure! Please don't make monitors again.

  • @3dfuzion,

I've heard that... A LOT... but that doesn't take away from the fact that I really wish I still had ours. :(

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • @gadgettts Yeah, that's Gateway for you. I went with a Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP instead and was super lucky to net $1,250 on eBay for my used Gateway XHD3000. I love the color depth on the Dell 3008WFP compared to the Gateway XHD3000 which had faded colors. My GTX Quad SLI 295's FTW! Put it all to good use never the less.....

  • For anyone wondering or concerned about repairs for the XHD3000 monitors, repairs are now offered by a lot of different vendors, mostly on eBay from what I've seen, and i have yet to see a bad feedback from it. Guess there is hope for xhd3000 owners out there with a bad unit after all !

  • @fastvr4102182 Thanks for the info fastvr. Much appreciated.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • Hey Fr. Robert! Excellent review! I know this was taken years ago, but i am hoping you might still have the monitor? Or access to it? I'm wondering if you've seen any of the defects that a LOT of people have complained about with this monitor?! I have heard everything from "i just got it 2 days ago and its crapped out on me", to "i've had it for a year and 9 months and i have green lines!!" ..with glitches like total failure, flickering, lines in the screen, etc ..any input?!!? Thank you!! :)

  • fastvr4102182,

We DID have a problem with the review unit just before I sent it back to Gateway. (After 14 months of continuous operation.) It had green lines across the screen. It turned out to be a power supply that crapped out. -- Luckily, that's an easy fix.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • @gadgettts What power supply? Is there a separate power supply (similar to PC's) inside the monitor itself? I too have an XHD3000 that has green artifacts with a somewhat horizontal emphasis (not exactly lines) and have been told by local repair shops my $1500 purchase isn't worth the cost of "trying" to repair. Ya, "trying" to repair, is all anyone wouls offer to do. If the power supply is fixable it's going to make me a very happy gamer.

  • @youbobin,

    It's the power "brick"

  • Too expensive for gaming, boy.

  • hitokiri657,

This review was done two years ago. Gateway doesn't even sell the XHD3000 anymore.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • I can 6ms response time is noticeable to any veteran PC gamer and can tell very quickly, I did on the other hand buy a gateway fhd2402 it runs 5ms but can run 2ms in gtg there nice but I don't think that price tag is worth much more with that type of response time I would go with a hanns-g 28" first it has 3ms response time now if I did not care about response time so much I would get this one instead

I have to hand it to you though you do good reviews:) take care

  • does anyone know if can use my xbox 360 hdmi or vga cords and plug them directly to the monitor wuld work?

  • yes it will

  • Ive heard many horror stories about this monitor for one after 14 months or so the thing fails and gateway (owned by acer now) wont even take it in for repair not even extended warranty helps there are no third party repair facilities that can do much either, but my question is that would a refurb version of this monitor be "clean" of these issues?

  • the problem with 2560x1600 is that MOST ppl will not be able to game at this kind of res. You seriously need an extremely powerful computer to even get decent frame rates.. try playing Crysis at this res with a medicore PC. You can't.

  • taltigolt,

    I don't understand your argument.

The largest CRT, the Sony FW900, is only 24" and has a resolution of 2304x1440. It costs FAR MORE (~$1800 new) than the XHD3000 (under $1000) which is 30", has a higher resolution (2560x1600), weighs about 50 lbs less, and has a lower response time.

CRT sales in the US are about 5% of LCD sales. Nobody is using them for computers anymore.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • Comment removed

  • taltigolt,

But the XHD3000, the 30" LCD reviewed here, is less than $1000. -- The 24" FHD2400, which we reviewed in episode 107, has a response time of sub 2ms, more inputs than a CRT, and a resolution to match, for less than $400.

I attend plenty of LAN parties and IT conferences. NOBODY buys CRTs anymore. That's why they're not even made in the states anymore.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • i use a crt ibm p275 170 hz 1920 by 1440 beats any lcd i seen but got a scratch on the anti glare coating and it seems impossible to fix so i been searching around for a good lcd in a good price range like 200$ that can show the same colors as crts

unless i find a way to fix that tiny scratch im doomed im sorry if my comment was bad since it got thumbed down but im just angry that they have so insane prices for lcds that competes with crts

  • Hey taltigolt,

Don't appologize for expressing your opinion. I never thumb somebody down who can intelligently speak their mind. I just have a lot of over-zealous fans who are a little protective of me. :)

Unfortunately there is no good way to fix scratches in the anti-glare coating of a CRT. Any "miracle fix" will change the refraction index of the material and make for an obvious area of distortion of the screen.

    .

    Fr. Robert

  • MoonOvice,

I have head about the flickering issue and I've actually seen a unit with that problem. In most cases it wasn't the monitor itself, but the power supply. Annoying problem, especially if it happens AFTER the warranty, but I'm still a big fan of the XHD3000.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • I have been researching this monitor for a long time, what I want to know is if anybody here has had it for more than a year or so? a lot of people seem to be having complaints of it having flickering issues and other things around after a year, specially when the warranty had already expired and that Gateway customer service were no help at all...

  • gateway sucks dont buy it

  • SEE CreativeOutletHobbie

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS MONITOR CRAPS OUT SOON AFTER THE 1-YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRES.

  • and no blur when playing 1920x1200 games ? sorry i am planning on buying one of these babies and i want to be sure

  • selexore200,

I haven't noticed any lag with FPS games. There IS a timing problem with rhythm games like Rockband, but that's just because it's slower than a standard CRT but faster than a standard LCD. (Adjusting time usually fixes it quickly.)

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • no input lag like me play xbox 360 games ?

  • hey i heard Gateway Has a Blackout issue are u getting that on yours

  • selexore200,

Blackout issues? I don't think so.

  • Supposedly that blackout issue has been fixed on revisions from 2008 and on.

  • Wii works whit scart.... i didn't see it on that thing ..

  • how do you set up the wii and the ps2 on this 30 monitor? I see that there is a white and a red hookup on the back where does the video go? thanks pictures showing this would be great! So I'm stupid I have been called worst!

  • it is a moniter for a computer not a tv

  • it uses component (green)

  • it has component, composite, and hdmi. you'd probably use the composite which is the yellow one.

  • As of right now , this monitor,on newegg costs 939 bucks. I really wish i had some money right now.

  • is it available in the UK ?

  • I live in Sweden and I really want this display. Is it possible for me to buy it ?

  • It's difficult getting some Gateway's gear outside of the US. Unfortunately I really can't tell you if it's available where you are.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • is the xhd3000 in any way wall mountable?????

  • pakidot,

Absolutely. It has a standard VESA mount in back.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • Superb review, great enthusiastic guy.

  • thanks sof2finchy!

  • In addition to my question below. How did you guys hook up audio to the consoles like the Wii and 360?

  • Yup... both of em!

  • I'm sorry, I meant HOW did you hook their audio up?

    What connections.

  • I'm really wanting to purchase this monitor, but I've been told the PSU's have a tendency to short out after a year. Is it still running strong on your guys end?

Have you tried running Oblivion on the PC (at max settings) with it?

I've read it has a decent amount of input lag as well, has it affected any twitchy games you guys have tested/played on it?

  • ZDanielPhoenix,

We sent back the test unit.

Yes we tried Oblivion (and every other game/application we had!) and it was beautiful.

We've played Rock Band and GH on the monitor (as you know, rhythm games are VERY sensitive to lag) and we loved it.

  • can you get this in australia

  • awesome vid!!

can you show us how much desk space 3 of those would take :P

  • LOL.

    my 22" is 2ms.

  • Uhhhhmmm... Ok... that's nice...

    Do you want a cookie?

  • WOW...this is one of the best reviews of any product I've ever seen...FANTASTIC WORK! I now know my next purchase!

    TheEminentGeek

  • Thank's EminentGeek!

BTW... I LOVE your handle! Peace, Fr. Robert

  • I like LCD's, but I think tube displays are still the way to go for gaming.

  • MoonOvice,

I have both 6ms and 2ms displays in the lab. There is a difference between the two when dealing with REALLY fast motion on HD video, but only if you're looking really closely. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Yeah, I hope it's not just a sale because I'm thinking of getting it but not yet.

  • What bout games like COD4?

  • Hey, is there a noticeable difference between 6ms and 2ms? I've seen some Amazing Acer 24inch (big enough for me) monitors with 2ms and I wanted to know. I would be using it strictly for PC/console gaming and want to know if there's a difference in that with say...FPS games or very fast games in general (Devil May Cry 4 comes to mind).

  • This thing is amazing, it even has composite and component! I just saw this thing for a measly $1,099.99 on newegg which is an amazing price!

  • MoonOvice,

Wow... nice find. $1100 for this monitor is REALLY good. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • I've looked on NewEgg 11/20/08 and it is now down to $999.99.

  • Yes, I checked today and I was amazed considering the quality of this monitor. Granted the contrast ratio compared to other monitors may not be the greatest but still.

  • It's really stupid at this point in time to waste 1700,00 $ for old 2D tech. 3D is already scaling upwards, 22" are available and 26" will be soon (like IZ3D).

If you are an enthusiast gamer, why waste a lot of money to stay with 2D (which is something really obsolete 2-3 years from now)?

  • trakkaton,

I appreciate your comment and respect your opinion, but my own personal view is that 3d displays are nowhere near replacing their 2d counterparts. I've seen some of the most advanced 3d displays on or close to the maket, even a few that are still in the lab... and though the "cool" factor is there, I wouldn't use a 3d display on a computer I plan to use every day.

I'm sure the time will come, but probably not within then next 5 years. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Bless You...Thank You...Excellent review!

  • my dad just bought one of these like a week ago. its really amzing how sharp it looks

  • i really want to order this monitor but no where in UK sell this amazing monitor.

  • I really don't know about the market in the UK. Sorry... can anybody else here help him out? Peace, Fr. Robert

  • As far as I know, Gateway do not exist in the UK, and they just provide customer support to UK residents who bought PC's years ago.

There probably would be an American retailer willing to ship, but would require insurance on the delivery.

There are 30 inch LCD's from LG, Samsung, Dell, HP, and Apple, Check newegg for reviews.

  • You do have to remember that the average size of a CRT monitor during the height of its popularity was 17". A large screen was 19" or 21" -- Pricing ran between $200-$1000 depending on the quality of the tube and you almost never saw the abundance of connection options like you do on a modern LCD. It was only during the death throes of CRT tech that prices dropped and features skyrocketed. Overall LCDs are cheaper, better for the eyes, more feature-rich, and higher-quality.

  • Youre right about power comsumption 17"/19"

crts used 100 watts, just wish they could make lcds good at everything and they apparently

cant, dead pixels, lousy view angles, lousy color reproduction and contrasts, screen latencies are still an issue, and its unacceptable to me! its also unacceptable they actually make some lcds with stands you cant even adjust and or that dont have dvi connectors in 2008, this should be standard on all cds,not luxuries Big thumbs down for lcd display makers.

  • And not only that, now that they only make 16:9 wide screens and are phasing out 4:3 lcds, you cant do accurate photographic and graphics work on those wide screen lcds All the pictures are wide streched and make people and objects look short and thick, images are way too stretched out and theres no way around it unless you can by a longshot modify the resolutions on the screen so as to get 2

black cars at each end of the screen to get a accurate view of images + u lose the size factor! sucks

  • (black BARS) typo sorry)

  • can you tell me where i can buy this monitor? am from the UK and i can't find no retailer.

  • POINT IS now when you want a decent monitor you need to pay 2000$ for an eizo or this gateway

the lcd display market with all its fucking performance flaws really fucking sucks.

  • If u look at reviews either LCD displays are not good for gaming, or theyre not good for movies, or theyre not good for graphics artists, or they have lousy video connection options, or they have lousy contrast,or they have lousy colors or they have lousy sharpness, or they have dead pixel problems,or the stand sucks I mean for fucks sake Arent there any displays out there can do it all and be fault free like CRT monitors were,Wish they brought slim line trinitron CRT monitors back.

  • I understand what you're trying to say and I agree with most of it, but did't you just comment on our EVGA GTX 260 review that graphics cards used too much power? Large CRT displays were THE LARGEST consumer of power on a desktop... From an environmental perspective, I'm glad they're gone.

  • I saw this at Fry's. I almost creamed my pants. This monitor truly is something.

  • I think my Dick just moved

  • lcd screens are so slow . Plasmas and DLP does not have response times .

  • It depends on which LCDs, Plasmas and DLPs you are using. This screen has a 6ms response time. Many desktop LCDs and bargain HDTVs have response times above 11ms. That makes all the difference.

We've been playing games on our XHD3000 for almost a year now and every game from Bioshock to Rockband to Crysis looks beautiful. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • I know your post is old, but I want to point out that you really want to test it out with either street fighter 2 or overhead shooters like Mars Matrix to determine if your input lag will be spot on or sluggish. The games you listed ain't anywhere near the bar needed to measure lag at all.

  • Voltz15,

Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right and that's good to know. -- As an update: Over the past few months we have tested it with Super Smash Bro's, Halo 3, Rock Band, COD4, Pac Man, Army of Two, Bioshock, Crysis, WOW, Guitar Hero, and a plethora of other titles... many of which are EXTREMELY sensitive to lag. --- It has performed quite well. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • I'm curious, were you running these games in their native resolution? The main snag comes from upscaling and de-interlacing which is pretty much an acid test in it's own right. There's still plenty of none pc gamers who prefer 15hz s-video or straight RGB and the jump to HD has been nothing short of an epidemic forcing everyone to either upgrade or abandon parts of their hobby altogether. If I could see this thing running snes or neo-geo without probems, it would be worth considering.

  • It doesn't matter what resolution you run. We inputed video via RGA, Component, VGA, DVI, HDMI across the entire range of resolutions and everything look beautiful. The on-board video processor is the secret sauce... pretty much anything you can throw at it will be scaled up to 1600p and better than in "native" mode.

  • Wow, this guy looks a lot like Frank Normandy, the cop that makes a lot of appearances on Mythbusters.

  • Well... I guess... I mean there ARE a few differences: he's 60+, I'm 34 / he's white, I'm asian / he's 6'1", I'm 5'8" --- but I guess we're both overweight, so there IS that. :) Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Sorry, I meant Alan Normandy, you're thinking Frank Doyle.

  • Ahhhhh... Now I have do go watch all my Mythbuster episodes again! Peace, Fr. Robert

  • LOL, I detect a pinoy accent.

  • does,it also upscale a 640x480 resolution vga signal into 1080p?

    thanks

  • FAT indian ? HAH!!

  • can you run nvidia sli on this display with 8800 gts 512

  • Yes

  • GOOD REVIEW i was wondering if 6 miliseconds is too slow?

  • No. We've had great results with full-motion video, video games and consoles. All high-quality with no hint of streaking.

  • Is 2ms a big noticeable difference from other monitors?

  • hey! i'm sort of the uber geek...but with a price tag like that (plus me being lately fired...)it's out of my range...

  • UBERGEEK FTW hahahaha

  • Hi,ive got LCD dvi tv and PS3. Ive connected them together with hdmi/dvi cable and can only get picture,no sound. Can you help?? Thanks

  • If you're using a HDMI/DVI adapter then you are only transmitting video as DVI has no integrated audio. You need to connect the audio apart from the HDMI/DVI connection.

  • Hi,i didnt get an audio connection with it. Do i just use normal aux leads (red & white)?? Thanks

  • he got hdmi n vga mixed up

  • i want to hookup my old nintendo gameconsoles, and my old vcr to it,and want to see how it will look upscaled in 1080p.

as what i know is ,it uses the most advanced de-interlacing,noise filter, condance detection, color sampling, and sharpning etc,,, technology availeble,so i could even aspect supirior quality from old vcr tapes and even tv programs(antenna trough vcr)no matter what it cost i want to buy it, but ,m live in europe!!!

  • now still with not enough money for this massive thing i am stuck between this and the 275tplus from samsung. also i have heard that this thing gets pretty hot i was just wondering if that is true

  • Hi Father,

I purchased the gateway, and I enjoy it very much. PRODIGIOUS! You were right! A plethora of hook-ups. My hobby is flying Microsoft Flight Simulator. If you have any new aviation gadgets to augment my flight simulator, please let me know.

God gave us technology to bulid the future. : )

    God Bless.

    Ed Seaver

  • testing

  • can i choose the resolution or does it only upscale to 1600p everytime for console games?

  • You can choose how you want your video formated, but the onboard video processor will scale up the video so that it looks good. (i.e. it will not allow you to pixelate your video unless you completely turn off the video processor.)

  • cud it play x360 @ 1600p if hooked up through svideo?

  • It can upscale ANY input up to 1600p, but it will not look nearly as good as if you were pushing video through the component or HDMI ports at 720 or 1080.

The more information you give the video processor, the better the output. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • but can it display my 360 in 1600p is the real question

  • yes

  • bad ass

  • how about the wii

  • yup

  • pure awesomeness this is goin in my room

  • playing games in a low resolution while having that would give u good framerates since it has a video processor.

  • OMG..... Me Want 3 :D :D

  • what is the benefit of getting this over an hdtv for this price i can get a 40 inch samsung

  • An HDTV is just a HDTV. This is a multipurpose monitor that supports 2560x1600 resolution. (a HDTV will support AT BEST 1920x1080) That means that a 40" HDTV will look like crap if you try to use it as a computer monitor.

Also, the XHD3000 is a 1600p UPSCALING display. That means that it supports GREATER than 1080p and it has an integrated video processor that will upscale all of your inputs... making them look crisper, sharper and BETTER.

  • now to raise 1700 dollars

  • Where could you buy this? Is it only available online..

  • I have owned this monitor since December 17 2007. I thought, before it came, that I would keep my 21" as a second display. HA! Besides the fact that it would not fit on my desk along side the XHD3000, it would look like my Treo's screen compared to the 21".

I can't believe they did not mention the automatic fading PIP. I can watch HD content in a picture and mouse "under" it to get to a window, and the PIP fades so I can see behind it!! Amazing!! I would recommend to anyone. It IS a good price!

  • Doc --- Good pickup... I totally didn't mention the faded PIP and it is one of the coolest features!

This really IS a good monitor. We've had it in the lab for three months now and I still haven't grown tired of showing it off to people!

  • for what i know the hqv processsor does have all nesseccary algorithms to improve video quality.

will others only relay,s on today,s pal hich freq singal etc,,,the hqv also relay,s on the old low freq pal signal etc,,and correctly improve them.

a external upscaler would be great cuzz than i don,t need to replace my samsung lcd screen, once connecting my pal nes, snes to it ,i experience stretchy, noise and strappy coloring images,so i hope the hqv chip can solve it.

  • i prefer the hqv processor with all it,s most advanced video algorithmes, cuzz not only it,s able to handle true 1090p,but even can upconvert 480i to 1080p even if there,re featuring artifacts, cuzz it removes the part of the lines wich couse artifacts, than it will reconstruct it by analyzing those lines.

the end result is a sharp smooter images,it also restores the video signal etc,,,

so grap your old video meterials and convert them into progressive hd.

  • IVE got the 24in version- the FHD2400- and its pretty sick

  • From the reviews - it looks pretty good. But there are 2 things to keep in mind.

    1) It gets pretty hot

    2) Some users are saying that when they lift the monitor, have bass playing, vibrations, etc that a dime sized screw becomes visible through the screen. Like a large screw being pressed against the backside of the LCD.

Anyone else know if this is true?

  • @ABC

I noticed that the set can get warm (I wouldn't say hot) but I have not seen the screen deformations that you describe.

We play some pretty thumping bass throught the speakers (Bioshock, The 5th Element, etc.) and everything has be just peachy.

  • Wow thats a sick monitor, a bit expensive tho... I invested about 300 on an NEC Opticlear 1770GX the contrast is sick, rich full color but its only a 17" LCD (not a wide screen). I'm looking for something thats a step up without breaking the bank, mabey 800 or less...

  • Are you a gadget ?

  • pretty nice screen. A question though, will the video proccessor in the screen boost performance if you have a powerful graphics card like an 8800, or does it have any effect at all.

  • The integrated video processor doesn't increase graphic performance. What it is used for is to better the quality of the video coming into the display by upscaling. In other words, if you have a 480i image, the XHD will scale it up to 1600p. If you input a 1280x1024 image, it will properly fill the screen without the LCD JAGGIES that normally occur.

  • Why the boo?

  • We don't get paid. Not by anybody. This show is done entirely on a volunteer basis by people who enjoy technology.

I'm just curious, do you not like the monitor?

  • The devices are never donated. We send them back after they are reviewed.

What you are seeing is our genuine enthusiasm for the product. --- It's true that you don't see us review any products that we don't like... because we only ask for products that we've researched and we think we might like.

It's also true that it's not in our best interest to trash our sponsors. Still, that doesn't take away from the fact that we do our best to give an honest evaluation of the products.

  • on top of that, you say that you only review products that you like, yet you admit that all the products you review are "leased" to you for review purposes. Somehow i doubt you will sit on a product and not review it when a "sponsor" has given it to you for that purpose.

if thats not enough, in my experience built in video is almost always worse than something you can set up yourself.

  • Let me guess, you also believe in the hollow-earth hypothesis? You sound like a conspiracy nut.

Dude, you're just talking out of ignorace now. Just because YOU would want to be paid for your opinion doesn't mean that he is being compensated.

  • Not only that, but I think you miunderstand what this "built-in video" really is. It's not integrated video on a motherboard. This is an integrated video processor: The same one that is built into high-end upscalling video boxes.

  • Fr. Robert does honest reviews. That's why I like him. I've bought the NV+ and the SlingBox Pro HD on his say-so and I'm glad that I followed his advice.

Before you go and accuse somebody of being in the pocket of the manufacturer, why don't you actually try some of the products he reviewed. If you think that they're shit and he misrepresented them, then come back and say so, if not... then you're just being a douche.

  • Truth be told i think you're just lying.

Someone is paying you, be it advertisers or otherwise, otherwise what would be the point of doing it? You would lose money.

So it does serve your purpose to review products favorably. More favorably perhaps than they warrant.

  • Blargsix, I know that this might be diffiult for you to believe, but there are people who do things for reasons other than money.

I am a Catholic priest, but I am also an engineer. TheTechStop and 'gadget' are my way of integrating my passion for technology with my dedication to faith.

You are entitled to your opinion, but let me repeat... we are not paid ANYTHING by ANYBODY to do the show. It is entirely on a volunteer basis.

  • fair enough... i guess i can accept it because this is youtube, and not television. But im still rather skeptical.

  • @ Blargsix

Thanks for the comments and I apologize if any of mine sounded condescending. I get the "what do you get out of it?" question all the time and I guess I got a little short.

I understand your skepticism and I appreciate it... it keeps us honest.

Call me to task if you think I'm being too easy on a review or if your experience of a product is negative. I know that I'll be better for it.

  • hey blargix

Now you're just being an ass. You are infering that Fr Robert is taking money for reviews... around here we call that libel.

If you don't like it, don't watch. The reason why he doesn't do negative reviews is because he doesn't want to sound like you: cynical and bitter.

  • Hey geeksmack

Im about as bitter and cynical as a kitten.

Im just not a consumerist whore like you, and i question the intention of people who seem overly enthusiastic about selling me something when they quite probably serve to gain from it.

Also libel? Are you retarded? This isnt the court of law, and nothing about my accusation is unjust.

  • Hey Blargsix,

You're the one who believes that nobody does anything for nothing and yet I am the consumerist whore? Perhaps you need to check YOUR retard-o-meter.

As for libel: "The communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may harm the reputation of an individual, business, product, group, government or nation."

You know... like you saying "someone is paying you, advertisers or otherwise"

  • Accepting what is presented to you without question is the epitome of a consumerist whore.

Being skeptical of the idea that people do things completely and 100% charitably is "realistic".

Also, your understanding of libel IS retarded.

Please research more before you throw around words like "libel", to which you have no obvious understanding. Thank you. You ignorant consumerist whore fuck. O wait maybe thats libel too!

  • You don't make judgements? Blargsix, you MADE a judgement when you called the Gateway monitor "shit" even though you've never seen it.

  • I think many of you need to learn to read. I never said the tv was shit (even though i still suspect it might be, given gateways track record), What i said was that what the reviewer was saying was likely shit.

and now im more inclined to think that my original impression was true. The author admitted that its in their best interest not to say bad things about the product.

  • Your falling into the "conspiracy" hole. Gadgets that don't perform don't get shown. You can be more positive that way and show your own opinion without the obligation and expense (time counts) to consumers to compare everything. It's simply free info. Take it for what it's worth. Being critical shows negativity that's too common. If you have information on a better unit for the money, I'd be pleased to add it to my info to make a better choice.

  • I just bought this display and it has to be the best thing in my room right now, gaming never looked better, I also purchased the slingbox, Samsung solid state drive, sansa connect, corsair 32gb flash drive and the D-link DIR-450, and I brought these products because Fr. Robert presented a fantastic full descriptive review of each one, when I used these products I got what I expected pure excellence. So shutup and get your facts together before you talk out your ass on the internet.

  • And that, my friends, is why you watch the whole video before commenting... O.o $1,700 though... Ouch...

  • Yikes... That can't be cheap...

Who knows how much this beast costs?

  • great review, i was looking at the gateway 24" monitor, and was wondering if gateway is actualy good on monitors, but i realy would like to as wich monitor is the best in size 24" and 22", and which of the 2 is the best, it would be nice if you could reply to my question and many thanks if done.
