hi mitchell , does the wood need to be dried out before you turn it into log furniture to avoid splitting or do you just do this from green wood? ive got some pine wood which has just been cut by someone else but wasnt sure about using it yet as it feels still moist...i love your videos - gives people inspiration and confidence to try it.
if you have a green log will will want somewhere to set it out of the way for a season or two. Ideally up off the ground and dry. All of the logs I am using have been dead standing or, in some cases lying on the ground, for several years.
...Turns out the way this log broke off, it was layed out over a ditch, up in the air. Nice and dry before I even got there.
Glad you enjoy the videos, and Thanks for watching! =)
@MrMldillman - After having a long power-outage due to a nasty nor'Easter here in New England, we have downed trees EVERYWHERE. Now, after getting an idea, and, then viewing your wonderful videos, my little Son wishes to build and furnish our entire backyard with like items that you make! :) We've already made a nice log bench!
Thank you for posting this and your other videos! Take care, my friend! :)
@classiclistener01 --- That's been all over the news. Glad to hear you've got your power back on.
Now let's turn those trees into something that will last your sons lifetime and beyond! I've still got a three legged stool my Grand Pappy and I made when I was 5! Great memories =)
@MrMldillman - THAT'S what I love to hear - family members doing things...TOGETHER! Your grandad - like mine, and, my Son's (my Dad), were ALL GREAT MEN! They SPENT TIME...WITH FAMILY...AND, espesially, with the little ones!
You and yours are good people who people need to be more like...and, learn from!
@smooth73074 Hey Thanks man...Most folks can't help but smile from ear to ear once they've sat down and realized how comfortable these log benches really are...I make it a point to 'Comfort Contour' each seat, taking plenty of breaks to sit down as often as I can =) lol
thanks for that :-)
