I can understand how this is offensive to some people, but I think they dwell in the past too much, as far as I know there are no more slaves in the us or any other civilized country... and now go back and read the first line I wrote...
We should ban the word all round. Why should only black people be able to say it? Whites dont go around calling each other honkey or cracker. If black people crave the respect they keep saying is their right than they need to start putting thier own house in order.
@rubysson57 I agree with you Negroes should stop using that word, but they won't.That's why I call myself a black Man because those old line uncle tom negroes and and kiss mr. charlie's Azz Nig'ers are still around (some are young )and they out number us Black Folk 10 to 1. I dealt with them thru the 50's ,60's 70's, 80's & 90's,They just don't seem to go away ( Whoosh ). I'll say this though, If a Negro is a Nig'er then a white man is a Sub- Nig'er. That's what I call whites to their faces !
@rubysson57 : And I would them why I called them that ! Because you're decended from Black Folk, That's why ! I heard less and less of the "N" word around them after I said that !
The whole Every Nigger is a Star album is a soundtrack to the film of a same name, i'm not sure if the album was made specifically for the film but i'm guessing it was. The film was apparently terrible and people demanded there money back after the opening at the Carib! would love to see it....
hmm...does he mean that even though you may be considered less than because of your race and social standing that you're still someone special? well...that's what i got out of it.
@GerryLincoln Yeah i hate when people are so closeminded...it takes away from creativity and uniqueness...great song.. maybe you can sing it when i sample it...maybe a rapper like Nas will rap on it...
My boyfriend told me about this song and i thought he was playing. I dont see nothing wrong with this song all races of people are using that word today. So u damn right ever nigga is a star. But im not gonna lie the song is very Frank.
Sure you right. People first impression might be that this song is a spoof or just goofing, but truth is he's not the only Jamaican artist to do a rendition using those bold lyrics. Several reggae artists have sung their version of it, just that they did it with a lot more swagger/braggadociousness, like Supercat, than this particular artist who was more known for his producing reggae tracks, not singing. It was a self affirmation time in the music, reminding black men to keep their head up.
Other species of humankind are being discovered all the time in different regions of the world and with no apparent connection to the 'African Eve' . Personally I dont care if we did come out of Africa. But it's far from conclusive. Also, we're living in very manipulative times where alsorts of intligence and data findings are being altered or even suppressed where its suits the political climate to do so.
Like I was saying, this argument for 'Out of Africa' couldnt have come at a more convenient moment for those it suits to import millions of Africans into Europe until we all turn 'nigger'. Can I say, btw? I mean, if we ALL came out of Africa it should be alright.
WHATTTTT???!!! WASSSS!!!! ONNNNN!!!!! HISSSSSSS!!! MIND!!!!!!....Was this a legitimate song or is this a joke? Did they really play this song on the air? Pleeeeaaaassseeee somebody school me....
Can't thank you enough for posting this! My friend and I are singing backup on this live version! Can't find my copy of the full interview...and you're right, you can't sing it out loud walking down the street...lol ( I'm the one that answered Howard, "I sing it quietly in my room!" ) If you still have the interview on mp3 we'd love to have a copy of it...
it's part of a reggae/blaxploitation soundtrack from the early 1970s -- he used to be with the upsetters and studio 1 ... but compared to this, all those so-called hardcore hip-hop "niggaz" pale in comparison.

@shawnthadon
You're welcome — anyone who finds this song "racist" just hasn't listened closely enough.
Catchy tune, great lyrics, but sadly, as a white guy, I can't walk down the street singing it out loud — well, maybe in Georgia or Texas...

When you do sample this, please give us a heads up — I'd love to hear it.
It's really a shame to see such a great song lost to history.
Sadly, it took "shock jock" Howard Stern to keep it alive and recognize Boris Gardiner.

Yes, this was a legitimate song.
Howard Stern came across it and had the guy come into the studio to play it live.
I've got the full interview on mp3 -- if you want to hear it, email me and I'll send you a copy.
