@1helluva86 you obviously dont know much about diesels. this truck probably never exceeded 11-1200 rpm the whole video, i set my high idle at 1250 and run for 10 min in -30 like, every day? and im a diesel mechanic. im no shmuck who knows nothing. true, revving the piss outta any cold engine, diesel or gas is hard on it, but i saw nothing wrong with the behavior in this video. however, the owner may want to consider installing a high idle. 12 valves are notorious for low idle
Dang, that idle is extremely low. Is this a 12valve or 24? You don't have glow plugs, but you could check your intake htr grid to make sure it is working, but it sounds to me like the idle is just too low for it to stay running cold. Sounds good through those stacks though
its just cold..my 06 cummins with 800hp tales 2 times to crank it over once it starts look at the smoke pour out..lol...you got a nice sounding truck.
lol u think that was bad go check my video out mine had the pumped turned up and its a whore to start in the cold i have to hold the accellerater down and keep it at about 1000rpm for a few seconds then she runs just fine:) got to love those old 12v's
ya i think it is set a little lower. thats part of his problem y he hadto put his foot to the floor and y it kept stalling. but its worth it cuz they sound really good idieling that low
OK one more thing and I'll shut up. Maybe the grid heater is not turning on. Mine doesn't and it spins a about a half second longer than it normally does. But mine will start down to 30 F without the grid heater, it just idles a bit lower on startup, but after about 30 seconds the idle begins to climb.
One more thing, sorry I forgot to add this. If it doesn't start cold unless you touch your throttle, it could mean a few things. 1. your idle might be adjusted too low. 2. The fuel pump might have the timing turned up and the star wheel adjusted. That causes over fueling on startup, especially when cold outside. If that is the case, then a bit of throttle is required, sorry I kinda just contradicted myself. But it only requires a touch of throttle if the fuel pump has been modified.
When you start it cold like that, don't touch the throttle, and if you do, don't throttle up and suddenly let of of it, it will stall. Mine is the same way. They start fine in the cold with no throttle. Just some advice. :)
you fuckin kids and ya diesels...you shouldn;t cold start it then floor the shit out of it. thats a fast track to fuckin it up
