haha haha.. Ask any greek scholar what ton theos means? He wil kick your ass! Dude its ton theon its incorrect if you say ton theos gramatically! Learn basics dude
seems strange that John would use the same word for ONE GOD as he would A GOD." Also, what about in verses 6,13,13,18? Are we to translate the anarthous theos as "a god"? The speakers translation method isn't very consistent... It should be translated, not in an indefinite sense, but, a qualitative sense-- though, a definite translation suits the English reader. I guess the best translation would be "As God was, the Word was."
In John 20:28 "My Lord and my God." Then Jesus said, "Thomas, because thou hast aseen me, thou hast believed: bblessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." The expression of "My God" as in Oh my God or OMG was not used in those ancient times. it is an expression we used today but not in biblical times. Thomas did not simply say, "My Lord... oh my God you are alive, thank you Jesus!" No he said right: "My Lord and my God!" The Lord of me and the God of me. Amen!
"First word is ho theos and the second word ist ton theon" - WRONG! En arche en ho logos kai ho logos en pros ton theon kai theos en ho logos- There is no article before the second God, wich means that the word was in substance and essence God, the second Person in the Trinity. This man, like Ahmad Deedat is a Showman and not an apologist. He dont know greek, he is misleading the persons in the audience.
clever words are of little consequence- forgiveness of sin and and entry into paaradise are what is important for every believer. Your sins can only be forgiven by shedding of blood.Your good works will never allow you entry into heaven. It is only a soul purified by the LORD JESUS CHRIST who will be able to have access to heaven.
Dr. Zakir missed the "In the beginning was the Word" part, which proves Jesus is an eternal person and uncreated. The Greek word for "was" in John 1:1 is "en" which means a timeless (eternal) existence in the past. He also forgot to mention that John 1:3 says Jesus is the creator of all things. Would John describe a "godly person" who was not Almighty God or was not eternal as the creator of everything? Of course not. John also calls Jesus "the only begotten God" (NASB) in John 1:18.
And from where did Zakir get this NEW interpretation that Jesus is saying that I was not crucified????? He infact asked them to see the nail marks in the palms and feet.
Mr Zakir is misinterpreting BIG TIME. When Jeus asked disciple Thomas to touch and see him, he was trying to prove that he is not a ghost, but really alive. The term 'spirit' is used in that sense there. Nowhere does Jesus' statement imply that he is trying to say that I am only Flesh and hence not God. That's simply your fancy. Bible teaches 100% Divinity and 100% Humanity of Jesus Christ. Yes, its beyond human comprehension, so do not try to break your head trying to understand it. You won't.
As for the rest of Dr Naik’s comments re "the upper room", Jesus’ resurrection, Moses….it follows my first comment, how Dr N is completely and utterly wrong in his assumptions and statements. This is due to the clear fact that he has not bothered to read the original text that would have allowed him to gain a true and clear understanding of what is actually said.
Greber translated his own version of The New Testament, not having any qualifications in Greek or translation of ancient languages. as displayed alos by Dr N. @ 3:35 he states "the 1st God is Ho Theos, wrong again as Ho does not appear in Jn1:1.First God used is Ton Theon (THE GOD!) . Word emphasis in Greek is understood by word order (grammatical rule) @3:51 he suggests you ask a Greek Scholar. Good advice Doc!
Amazing how Dr Naik is completely and utterly wrong in his assumptions and statements as regards what the original Greek actually says. Also,@ 3:02 it makes complete complete sense as God WAS with God (no small "g" but upper case "G", or Theon was with Theos if you like). @ 3:53 the letter "a" as in "a god" does not appear in the Greek, , but it reads Theos (God). The letter "a" was inserted by the JW's in their translation given to them by a Spiritualist medium named Johannas Greber.
@dragonlee1bfed dragon..you are being deceptive..greber is not the only translater who inserts the 'a' in john 1;1 c. In fact, one of the oldest translations of john from koine into coptic inserts the 'a' in john. Why?..becasue they understood koine and it's nuances..and they understood that the second use of theos was qualitative and not identifying that the word was The God with whom he was with. And that translation dates to within a couple hundred years of the origninal.
@brofun, Thnx for the reply. You are in error and lack understanding. READ my comments again. I am not discussing "translations" as you seems to have picked up on, but I have stated what the Original Txt states, which you completely ignored. To call me "deceptive" shows just how weak your reply is, you don't have a clue as to Original Txt. The original Koine greek txt reads "Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ Λόγος, καὶ ὁ Λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν Θεόν, καὶ Θεὸς ἦν ὁ Λόγος." No "a God" but "GOD" . Blind fold off please.
@dragonlee1bfed The original text literal says the word was god'..that is true. However, if you don't understand the written language of koine, then it would be easy to become confused. the written language does not contain the indefnitite article..it is implied. if you spoke and wrote koine, then you would know and understand when and where it is implied. BUT, since we don't, we have to find out how to render it correctly. THAT is why the contemporary coptic translation of john 1;1...
@dragonlee1bfed the word was a god'. You see, since coptic was spoken and written at the same time that koine was, they would know exactly when and where the indefnite article is implied and would thus, insert the indefnite artlcle where called for. And since the word was WITH THE GOD..then the word could not BE the God with whom he was WITH. So, it becomes grammatically and logically correct to note the qualitative sense of the second use of theos..so, the word was a god..or like god..
Now that its "off". The Koine, Sahidic Coptic, Latin Vulgate ALL state clearly "God", and not "a god" as you wrongly stated. No need for "nuances" as you claim. Individuals like yourself unfortunately have been deceived then re-itterate deceptions, "Why?..." because you never bothered to check bro, thats why! Greber was not a translator, he was a MEDIUM..is "anyone there?" Earth to brofun... Earth to brofun..is anyone there?
@dragonlee1bfed You are wrong on the coptic. I don't know about the sahidic since I've not researched it. It is your assumption that I have not checked..and you are incorrect! greber is not the only one who translates john 1:1 with the indefinte article, or the qualitative sense. There are many others..but, you will choose to ignore those. And your saracsm does not bolster your point in this issue...it only makes you look weak. So, be strong and use knowledge..not scoffing and denegration
John 10:31-33~Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, 32but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33“We are not stoning you for any of these,” replied the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
@shy52002 the verse which tells that Muhammed is coming, got removed from your bible.
Even if it's not there (because I know that you'll not believe me) the bible was before Muhammed's coming, so this is an obvious reason why it's no where in the bible.
Also, the whole 'my god!' to Thomas being an exclamation of surprise is so ridiculous I can hardly reply. In the Greek it says 'And he said to Jesus...The Lord of me and The God of me'. Argument over.....
'a god'? 'any Greek scholar?' Seriously? Did he just read The New World Translation? Terrible. Just terrible. And his example of exchanging God for The Word and see how it sounds. That is called changing the text to prove your point. There is a reason they worded it the way they did. LET THE TEXT SPEAK FOR ITSELF!!!!!!

Who do the cults say Jesus is? Jehovah witnesses; the Archangel Michael Mormons; one god of many, brother of Lucifer Theosophy; an Incarnated world soul Bahai; one of 9 manifestations of Divinity Spiritists; an advanced Medium Unitarians; an extraordinary good man Who do Christians say Jesus is? God the son, second person of the Trinity. In conclusion we can confidently state in the scripture Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. See 1 Timothy 3:16.
Exactly,Jesus christ is the flesh and God is the spirit, they are one, separating them will not work, muslims are trying hard, jws are tring harder, lol jkeep trying,it wont work.Look in your heart and ask who is God,pray and find yourself!
@shy52002 The BIBLE says The Father is God, Jesus is God and the Holy Spirit is God, Thats all I need I believe it the ones that don't one day every knee will bow. God Bless
@shy52002 They are diffirent persons When we say that they are all personal, we note that there are necessary elements that constitute personality (separate identities ) in each one. , It is the Son who died for all mankind; the Father and the Spirit did not, the Son became human flesh, and still is in the flesh, while the other two are not.
Isa 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
Lol! this guy hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. God in John 1:1b is τὸν θεόν not τὸν θεὸς this relates to God being a definite object. If John 1:1c was translated "and the Word was a God" the Greek would have to say καὶ ὁ λόγος ἦν θεόν, but it does it says καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος. This means the Word is not the Father, who is the only true God, but he is in very God in nature. This is confirmed in Philippians 2:7 and Colossians 2:9.
WRONG. You can NEVER get anymore ANTI CHRIST than Christianity, because you constantly contradict Jesus every day because of PAUL:
John 5:41:
"I DO NOT accept praise from men."
You Christians cannot follow this, because you follow PAUL of tarsus who contradicted Jesus.
Islam believes Jesus was one of the NEAREST to God in honor, since he was one of the greatest prophet, and your Bible PROVES that Jesus was a prophet: Matthew 21:11, Mark 6:4, John 6:14.
you are right but you see with judaism its easy to see they're antichrist cause they openly deny jesus is the christ and many will go as far as praising the fact that they were the ones who forced romans to crucify him. But with false religions like islam and hinduism is harder to reason with. example: a muslim will say, "oh yes we believe jesus is the christ sent by allah and we love him." (cont.)
(cont.) But the problem is islam denies everything the bible attributes to Jesus (divinity, death on the cross, resurrection etc) therefore making itself antichrist. hindus will say oh yes Jesus was a representation of God like krishna or buddah or gandhi but the bible teaches there was only one God man, the other are false prophets and antichrist, mohammed included unfortunately...
NO-WHERE in Bible does Jesus UNAMBIGUOUSLY claim to be God, or where he explcitily said WORSHIP ME.
In fact, Jesus said: John 5:41:
"I DO NOT accept praise from men."
Muslims follow this YOU DON'T.
John 14:28:
"My Father is GREATER than I."
Muslims believe God is GREATER than Jesus, YOU DON'T. You will NEVER be able to give ANY logical and TRUTHFUL proof to disprove that Muhammed was a prophet of God, because you learn about Islam from ANTI sources, making you BIASED.
Funny that you mentioned Paul as a false teacher. Islam has one thing (at least) in common with nazism, both criticized paul saying that he introduced judaic teachings into the church and because he claimed Jesus was God together with the Father and the Holy Ghost!! false religions have one thing in common at least, they usually are ANTICHRIST. please dont reply with some stupid ahmed deedat answer,he knew nothing of greek or hebrew, the most ignorant i saw.
Unlawful translators have been LYING for years, since there's NO capital letters in Greek, yet in John 10:35 the word "gods" does NOT have the capital "G," yet in John 1:1 it does.
Jesus does NOT utter a word in John 1:1 according to red letter Bible.
@celioabatti what do you mean begining and the end. Jesus was born in a stable. According to Acts 2:22 Jesus was just a MAN approved of God Almighty like all the other prophets of God. Read Bible in context don't just throw verses out of context.
Please don't use muslim propaganda. In Greek, if you use 'ho' in both Word and God it would mean that Word is THE EXACTLY SAME THING that God, which is not true. Greek 'ho' and 'ton' have hardly any analogy to English 'the' and 'a', so English are different than Arabic and so on. Greek pronouns and their use is extremely more rich than in English. I'm affraid that dr. Naik is talking, forgive me, bullshit.
Isaiah 44:6 - "Thus saith JEHOVA the King of Israel, and his redeemer JEHOVA of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Isaiah 44:6 - Thus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God
Notice: "...Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts..."
This Monkey Scholar doesn't know any Greek, neither Ancient ,modern nor Koine.
1) There is no lower Case God
2) He gets it all wrong, from Grammar, Casing and even Correct Citing.
3) Switch on your Brain: What does it mean ? What is the Word of God ? It is an eternal Universal Law, which can not change: it has seven distinct Components. Can you not see them in almost every Aspect of your Lives ?
4) The Trinity is confirmed and very clear and this Principle is contained in every Aspect of Life
The Word of God and Concept of Trinity are both acting together as Divine Principle OF GOD.
Even in Atomic Theory and Particle Physics the subordinate Principle of triangular Relationship ( based on this Universal Law of Trinity ) have been confirmed all over the Place.
If you continue to follow the Mullahs and Imams of your Mohammedan Brainwashing Cult you will perpetuate Humanity back into Neanderthal Society.
Allymetro, why is it when people like you lose the intellectual argument, you resort to profanities...is this the culmination of what you have learnt from your religion....
Although Muslims proclaim they have a Koran that dates to the time of Muhammad, the Reality is different.
Two ancient copies of Koran that are in existence are the Samarqand MSS is in Tashkent, and the MSS housed in the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul. What many
Muslim's do not know, is that because these two manuscripts were written in a script style called "Kufic", practicing Muslim scholars generally date these manuscripts no earlier than 200 years after Muhammad died.
If you dont believe me, listen to faithful Muslim, Ahmad Von Denffer, in his book, Ulum al Quran, in a chapter called, Old Manuscripts Of The Qur'an, "Most of the early original Qur'an manuscripts, complete or in sizeable fragments, that are still available to us now, are not earlier than the second century after the Hijra. [or 800 AD]
Things found in Christ, not found in Islam: One simple but effective way of explaining the difference between a major "world" religion and the gospel of Christ (the New Testament, Matt. 26:28) is to show the things found "in Christ" that are not found elsewhere. The following are things found in Jesus Christ that are not found in Islam.
The earliest copy, which was exhibited in the British Museum during the 1976 World of Islam Festival, dated from the late second century.' However, there are also a number of odd fragments of Qur'anic papyri available, which date from the first century." (Grohmann, A.: Die Entstehung des Koran und die altesten Koran- Handschriften', in: Bustan, 1961, pp. 33-8)
Allah is never found in the Bible. The Muslim word for God is "Allah". The fact that Allah is Arabic specific has been a real problem for Muslims to explain. After all, why would Allah, never reveal himself to anyone in the Bible? Abraham never heard God call himself Allah! So in desperation, Muslims actually try to find the word Allah in the Bible. Brace yourself for this, it doesnt get more ridiculous than this!
The 20 Versions of the Quran today. (7 are recorded in the Hadith) Muslims believe that the Koran used today is identical to what was used 1400 years ago. Depending on the local sect in the world today, Muslims use up to 20 different versions of the Koran.
as far as i know... there is only 1 quran.... but there are idiots who try and change the word of the quran... for instance some guy made a book called the furqan after a muslim scholar named ahmed deedat died... its a complete fake and all true muslims will never follow it because its not the real book... there is no other version of the quran... its been around for centuries unedited.. princegoutham prove wat u say... "7 are recorded in the hadith" i do not believe u..
and da last time i checked... there are many edited versions of the bible... doesnt that prove anything??.. i mean its all written by different people... so how can it be by god??... the quran has only 1 version.. people try to edit it and change it out of hatred or ignorance of acceptance of the one and only god.... but they cant.. the quran is unedited and it cant be tampered with... and it is written in this verse surah 6 verse no . 115.. None can alter his(Allah) words
This is why the Muslim apologist, M. Saifullah had to state "Concerning the Topkapi manuscript we are not aware of studies done it." (Who's Afraid Of Textual Criticism?, M. S. M. Saifullah, 'Abd ar-Rahman Squires & Muhammad Ghoniem) What is in this manuscript that Muslims are afraid to let the world see? After all in Qur'an 2:111 it says "Produce your proof if you are truthful."
There are no ancient copies of the Koran dating before 750 AD in museums. We challenge you to prove us wrong! Send us the name, locate and date of the Koran written earlier!
Earliest complete manuscript 200 AH or 800AD!
Muslims are fond of the myth that there are complete copies of the Koran dating from the year Muhammad died. The scientific facts say otherwise!
Even the earliest fragmentary manuscripts of the Koran are all dated no earlier than 100 years after Muhammad died.
Add to this the fact that there is no archeological evidence dated at the time when Muhammad was alive, by way of artifact, manuscript or inscription has ever been found were Muhammad is actually referred to as "a prophet".
Had these two manuscripts been compiled any earlier, they would have been written in either the Ma'il or Mashq script style. John Gilchrist, in his book, "Jam' Al-Qur'an" came to this same conclusion. (John Gilchrist, Jam' Al-Qur'an, Jesus to the Muslims, 1989)
Now we do have one ancient copy of the Koran written in the Ma'il style of script, that is housed in the British Museum in London (Lings & Safadi 1976:17,20; Gilchrist 1989:16,144).
"In other words: two of the copies of the Quran which were originally prepared in the time of Caliph `Uthman, are still available to us today and their texts and arrangement can be compared, by anyone who cares to, with any other copy of the Quran, be it in print or handwriting, from any place or period of time. They will be found to be identical." (Von Denffer, Ulum al-Quran, p 64)
Completely unlike Jesus Christ who never had sex with a woman,
Muhammads was sexually involved with at least 22 women. Although in the Quran he would limit his followers to having four wives, he himself took more than four wives and many concubines. The question of the number of women with whom Muhammad was sexually involved either as wives, concubines or devotees was made a point of contention by the Jews in Muhammad's day. Ali Dashti comments:
"All the commentaries agree that verse 57 of Sura 4 (on-Nesa) was sent down after the Jews criticized Mohammad's appetite for women, alleging that he had nothing to do except to take wives" (Ali Dashti, 23 Years, pp. 120-138).
There is no point in telling and misguiding people with wrong things.. is this wat is done in peace tv... so where is the peace?
If your religion is great for you and so is ours.... you cant shake it by telling and preaching all crap....we are all human beings and cannot be testing the presence of god..
The Koran and the earliest Muslims did not believe the Bible was corrupted. Muslims may be surprised to learn that, contrary to popular belief, the Koran actually says nothing about the corruption of the Bible. It may also surprise Muslims that historically, the first Muslim to trash the Bible was Ibn-Khazem, in 1064 AD.

Christvision, when you lose in part of intellectual discourse, people like you resort to profanities...Is this what you have learned from your religion from Jesus, to speak in this manner. Are you following his way?
I appreciate any discussion of the grammar of John 1:1, as long as they are based on what is actually on the page of Holy Writ. Naik is simply repeating grammatical errors put forth by Deedat. Two things need to be pointed out before any further discussion of the prologue ensues: 1) The first occurrence of ο θεος is in the accusative, and 2) the second occurrence of God/god is not τον θεοv. θεος in this case is anarthrous, that is, it lacks the article.

THAT is why the contemporary coptic translation of john 1;1...
brofun 10 months ago
@dragonlee1bfed the word was a god'. You see, since coptic was spoken and written at the same time that koine was, they would know exactly when and where the indefnite article is implied and would thus, insert the indefnite artlcle where called for. And since the word was WITH THE GOD..then the word could not BE the God with whom he was WITH. So, it becomes grammatically and logically correct to note the qualitative sense of the second use of theos..so, the word was a god..or like god..
brofun 10 months ago
Now that its "off". The Koine, Sahidic Coptic, Latin Vulgate ALL state clearly "God", and not "a god" as you wrongly stated. No need for "nuances" as you claim. Individuals like yourself unfortunately have been deceived then re-itterate deceptions, "Why?..." because you never bothered to check bro, thats why! Greber was not a translator, he was a MEDIUM..is "anyone there?" Earth to brofun... Earth to brofun..is anyone there?
dragonlee1bfed 10 months ago
@dragonlee1bfed You are wrong on the coptic. I don't know about the sahidic since I've not researched it. It is your assumption that I have not checked..and you are incorrect! greber is not the only one who translates john 1:1 with the indefinte article, or the qualitative sense. There are many others..but, you will choose to ignore those. And your saracsm does not bolster your point in this issue...it only makes you look weak. So, be strong and use knowledge..not scoffing and denegration

Even if it's not there (because I know that you'll not believe me) the bible was before Muhammed's coming, so this is an obvious reason why it's no where in the bible.

Lol! this guy hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. This is confirmed in Philippians 2:7 and Colossians 2:9.

duio 2 years ago

(cont.) But the problem is islam denies everything the bible attributes to Jesus (divinity, death on the cross, resurrection etc) therefore making itself antichrist. hindus will say oh yes Jesus was a representation of God like krishna or buddah or gandhi but the bible teaches there was only one God man, the other are false prophets and antichrist, mohammed included unfortunately...
duio 2 years ago

Mat 7:6:
"Do not give DOGS what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to PIGS."
Mark 7:27:
"It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their DOGS."
The dog and pigs are the most FILTHIEST animals back then, which is what Jesus called people.
The Biblical Jesus is a racist, which Islam DISAGREES on.
Jesus encourages people to become eunuchs (SELF mutilation of penis) in Matthew 19:12.

Jesus was boiled in hot excrement in Talmud in: Gittin 57a.
Jews also dont believe in Jesus. So, HOW DARE you call Islam antichrist, when Jewish's OWN holy scriptures curse Jesus and calls his mother a WHORE?
This proves how little you know about Islam and Jewish scriptures, and proves your biased for calling Islam antichrist when TALMUD curses Jesus

The truth:
Although Muslims proclaim they have a Koran that dates to the time of Muhammad, the Reality is different.
Two ancient copies of Koran that are in existence are the Samarqand MSS is in Tashkent, and the MSS housed in the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul. What many
Muslim's do not know, is that because these two manuscripts were written in a script style called "Kufic", practicing Muslim scholars generally date these manuscripts no earlier than 200 years after Muhammad died.

I appreciate any discussion of the grammar of John 1:1, as long as they are based on what is actually on the page of Holy Writ. Naik is simply repeating grammatical errors put forth by Deedat. Two things need to be pointed out before any further discussion of the prologue ensues: 1) The first occurrence of ο θεος is in the accusative, and 2) the second occurrence of God/god is not τον θεοv. θεος in this case is anarthrous, that is, it lacks the article.
