  • wr500 is the same motor as the yz490 but in a yz250 frame, mono shock, upside down forks and disc brakes I've had mine for a cpl of years never lets me down, I let it down 4 months ago and flipped her at 80 kph or so, bent subfame ,exhaust and me, walking alright again now so time to replace the bits lol

  • Nevermind saw another vid where it had the lights. Looks like an enduro bike

  • So is the WR 500 pretty much the same as the YZ 490J? I have an 82 YZ490 and it looks pretty much the same except I have the yellow plastics. I thought when I read WR that's mean it had lights and all that stuff on em.

  • its the problem for some of these bikes like this parts are getting hard to find

  • that thing is a fuckin BEAR!!!!!

  • BANG BANG let me eat 4-jokes

  • @eamh2002 4 strokes are only good for beginners, like me! i wana get a 2 smoker sometime next summer

  • sounds sick

  • Hey porky, What was y'all checkin in front of that thar motor? Was ya makin' sheeur

that J-B weld had a takin set? She sounded pretty good up until oh say 2000 rpm or therebouts when them thar crank seals started a flappin' round. (just kidding, actually Iove to have that bike!).

  • @Ggordonhorseballs

was making sure the exhaust had a good seal, it used to blow the pipe of on the odd occasion, the bike sounded funny as it was an ex race engine and the carby was setup for methanol, was never jetted correctly, and probly half the dramas i had were caused by this

  • i came in my pants

  • that sounds fuckin mean dude

  • ya i have the one class down i have the 400 cc yamaha wanna buy it

  • my cousin had the same bike looked exactly like urs but he said he blew the piston and sold it for 200$..

  • Very Impressed mate!

    Thats a healthy stinky!

    Australia

  • been looking like hell to get one of these haha im 14 and rode my dads friend yz490 of course i stood on the porch and practiclly thought i broke my ankle when i started it

  • perfect fat mans bike

  • my dad has the same bike and hes selling it to for 2800 ono and goes like hell to mad ass bike mate.

  • mate, my advice would be to buy a brand new 2 stroke 250, this bike represents my pain, tears and lost countless hours, and iv still only ridden it for approx 20 mins total, i now have this bike set up as an ornament in my workshop, and i have an 09 yz 250 to ride, as i know it isnt going to die on me as soon as i take it out :), dont get me wrong, i love the old big bores, but i personaly dont have the patience to ride them and keep them runing anymore

  • @cockycunt It's too bad it has to be this way but it's true. No matter how fully you restore it, it's just inherently a frustrating relationship. I can relate.

  • Were these finally a 5spd gearbox???? I'm planning to get my first 500 to get back into riding after years of being out of MX, and oddly enough I actually kinda would like to get an air cooled bike. Though most say it will be way behind the other bikes. Can you give me any comparison on these last of the air cooled big bores? Sure would like to make one work for me, and I'm not above custom bore/stroke, porting etc if that's all it would take to be first to the top of the dune/hill lol. Comparo?

  • Really Cool video, This guy knows what he is doing. Every move is really thought out !

You Know your stuff Sir. (the one starting and revving the bike expertly!).

  • please dont bend over again

  • nice i got a 2001 CR500R

  • yess lol i got a cr480

You got balls man. thats all i got to say.

  • haha well yeah you get used to the power. I didnt really like 4 strokes so i looked into a 500 becuase i had a 250 and i just wanted just a bit more power

  • sounds like a beast...WOW!!!!

  • you are gay

    S!

  • when did yamaha stop making 500cc 2strokes?

  • 1990 something, late 90's i think.

  • this is a 92, they also brought them out in 93 but as far as im aware the 93's were just the left over 92's, and that was the last of them, they didnt make them after that

  • shit man.my wr500 is a bitch too start with the motor rebuilt and im only 75kgs and gotta jump off my bike trailer too start the beast!

  • It's hard to keep the exaust springs on them big bastards. but how i miss my old WR 500

  • nice bike , i got one in nz and got it bored out to 530 and dam its a bitch to start somedays . but i aint seen anymore like mine in auckland here .

  • I see. Well, I hope it works now. Just be extra careful not to get the Cylinder too hot (specially on that spot - too close of the sleeve), because aluminum weld is HOT, and accidentally get the bore oval.

  • how much are those bikes worth these days coz i have one and i wana know the value

  • Nice! Congrats on your bike.

  • why thankyou, but sadly the poor old girl is apart again, for some strange reason it keeps pulling head studs out of the barrel, hopefully i have found a fix for that issue, and i must say, your bike is a very nice example

  • Thanks. Glad that you liked my WR. About your problem, may I ask if the threads of both the studs and the cylinder are okay? If the cylinder has been fixed with helicoil, then I think that´s the problem. Best Regards.

  • the problem is realy only with one of the studs, the one above the exhaust port, the alloy of the barrel is just so old and weak that everytime i cut a new thread it ends up pulling out fairly quickly, im having the studs holes welded in tomorow and am going to try again, hopefully the alloy weld is stronger than this poor old barrel

P.S. I re-posted this message, because I posted it seconds ago without checking "reply". Sorry.
