  • correction on the previous date 1973-1980 I think it was march

  • To the Cribb Island scavengers, some people were still moving out, when you guys came in. you could have waited a few days.I forgive you though

  • My name is Henry Webster From previous post. we lived on 31 Cribb Parade and had the shop underneath and number 6 across the road.

  • Webster Family

My parents use to own 2 of the shops. One at the movie theater the other on the corner. Cribb Parade. I lived their from 1973-1981 we were some of the last to leave the area. That brought back memories. While watching the video I remembered some of the awesome times I had growing up there. Looking at the shop in the video, I was able to pinpoint my old bedroom. I had a lot of fun looking under the rocks for small crabs and fish. I use to ride my bike down to the ghost track.

  • Amazing footage. Brought back some fond memories I have of growing up there. I learnt to skate at the Theatre hall also watched movies in deck chairs there. Bought lollies after school at the shop etc etc. The most wonderful thing I remember about Cribb Is is the usual serene bay. It was always breathtaking. Couldn't imagine a macro development like the airport being allowed by today's standards, but most waterfrontages have to consider climate change. Nudgee is the closest thing now.

  • Walked along the beach there today - you can still see a fair few relics from Cribb buried along the foreshore

  • Hello! Sorry I didn't see this sooner...but if anyone's interested, there has been a musical play written about Cribb Island called "Cribbie". It's written by Michael and Margery Forde and is based on interviews they did with former residents. The last show is on tonight at the Redcliffe Cultural Centre!

    All the best

  • >.< my mum and all her family grew up there.

    The Dows family.

We've got the Cribb Island street sign.

  • My surnames Cribb and I used to live in brisbane, tarringa thought id look this up, interesting

  • I lived near by in Nudgee and frequented Cribb island as a child to swim and buy a ice-cream from the shop you see here that was a Sunday outing and later played my first gigs in that picture theatre to this day I miss not being able to go back and relive those memories. The cribbie people were robed by the state who were sitting on a gold mine waterfront housing. Cribb Island was the place to be seen in the forties . Imagine how much it would be sort after today.

  • I was one of the Cribb Island scavengers and still have a few relics .......... it was weird wanders through the deserted homes .. people left food in the fridge, clothes in cupboards, personal letters etc ........... very post apocalypse

  • I grew up at Cribb Island. There were certainly more than 400 people at its height. Families that owned their homes were forced to go back into mortgage debt because of the pathetic compensation offered them for their properties. Progress may be necessary, but burning people along the way isn't.

  • thanks man

  • Thanks for posting this. I know people who used to live at Cribb Island.

  • Bring back Cribb Island...progress and change sucks!
