hi what king of filter did you use (is it necceserly )
do you have to add air pump (is it necceserly )
is the water from the sea (i know that it must be seawater but you can even make your own by mixing some nutrents with water and get sea water but i want to know what method did you use)
@badpaulnadur I use a Fluval FX5 Filter... One that big is not necessary, but you will need a good filter. And yes you need an are pump.
The water was just tap water. I added the correct amount of salt to it, and then i added live gravel, and live rock. After a while i added the clown fish and let him stay in the tank by him self for a while before i slowly started to add other marine life. you ahve to be very patient in the begining. I recommend you do A LOT of readding before you start.
Yea I understand that they grow fast but I have no problem raising it until it time for a new owner. And I was thinking the same thing about flipping the crab. Ill think about it and if I find one at a good price I'll get it. Thanks for the help
Im looking to buy a SF eel(5-7inchs) and I'm sure my other fish would be fine in the tank with one but I would like to know if he was well feed would there be a good chance he would attack my lawnmower blenny( because he's lays on the ground and the eel hunts at night) and my horseshoe crab. I know the SF's love crustaceans but the horseshoe crab doesn't look like an easy meal. Any help would be great.
@GMperformanceOWNER Yea, id be really nervous to add a snowflake in there. The horsehoe crab MIGHT be ok becasue of its shell, but the eels will have NO problem flipping it over if it wants to. And of course, like you said, crustaceans are eels favssss. The lawnmower blenny will probably be food, but u might get lucky.... FYI, snowflakes grow VERY fast. You may get it at 5 inches, but in a few months it will be a foot, and still be growing.... be VERY careful if you put one in your tank!
I am think I am gonna get a snowflake eel. I have a 4 in. yellow tang and a 1 inch yellow chromis. If I got rid of the chromis and got some clowns and other damsels that were pretty big too, would they be ok with a snow flake eel? Like If the snowflake eel was really small and what not. Like you don't have any problems with its aggression towards your other fish do you?
@AugustousKing Well the snowflakes will eat pretty much anything that it can. I keep mine WELL fed and all my fish are pretty big so i dont have any problems at all. Just remember when you go to buy your eel (or just about any fish), they get big REAL QUICK!!! Good luck
hey i really want a snowflake eel with some corals and two clown fish with anemone, and a anemone shrimp. i was wondering how the eel would do if i put live rock and sand with some corals in the 55 gallon tank?
Ok, im planning to purchase a nano TL 550, and have a snowflake eel in it, but i really wanna have like crabs and stars in there. Also, where could i buy a anowflake eel in London, Englannd?
Well first off i would have no clue where you could by an eel in london. Here, if you go to a fish store (not a pet store, a shop thats only sells aquarium things) they might have them, or can get them if asked. as for the crabs and the star fish. it wont work unless your VERY lucky. Crabs and star fish are in a eels natrual diet. My crabs are a little to big for my eel to eat right now, and they are hermits so they can hide under their shell. But if the eel still wants him he can still get him.
I've just bought that tank for christmas, its brilliant well worth the money. At the weekend i am going to collect my snowflake eel at the local fish store. Many fish stores in England will order a snowflake eel if you ask.
If you get a snowflake eel young and get big crabs then you'll be alright. I don't know though even if they attack stars
MY eel is pretty calm because a feed him A LOT. he's 3x the size he is when i first bought him. Keep your eel well fed and he might not attack as much...although he still will. Mine will bite the puffer when he goes near his area at feeding time. he has tried to eat the crabs before... he got a leg a 2 or 3 times (3 crabs) but they stay go in the shell when he goes near them and he leave them alone after that....most of the time...
thats interesting. I have a tank right now with only a porcupine puffer about 5 inches long. Ive been wanting to put hermit crabs in to help with the poop buildup but was afraid the puffer would attack them constantly. Does your puffer leave the hermit alone most of the time?
i would take that with caution...fish will be different from one tank to the next. What works for him may not for you. Yeah rules are made to be broken, but better to be safe. Puffers will destroy your crabs
@sailor5687 never had any kind of problem like that....maybe really small fish they might try to get but id be more scared of ur fish eatting the hermites....the only problem i had was the eel trying to eat the hermits...but i got smaller ones now and he hasnt even tried to get them...

@JoshBlaze9 1, dont use tap water, u need to use reverse osmosis water and then add required salt, 2, u dont need an air pump on a salt water.

How is the eel getting on with the invert in the tank?
darnelBMAadrian 2 years ago
and the puffer too! Mine devours any moving object that it sees in the tank. But i think that crab is just big enough to not be considered a snack
