  • It would be awesome to get to see Crunch "in real life". What an awesome turtle!

  • The largest alligator snapper is in Chattanooga, Tennesse at the aquarium there and weighs 249 lbs. That's the largest in the world on display anyway.

  • Hello Rusty: I'm starting up Alligator Snapping Turtle Conservation Group, Inc. again. I have 3 refuges established in Louisiana (on private property). We've got over 100 collectively.

  • what size tank is he in?

  • I'm watching my alligator snapping turtle swim right now so the information on them not swimming.... whats that about??

  • @laurastroh1 I'm sure he meant one of his size, as he states later on about him moving on land.

  • Great vid. What a cool animal!

  • As if it can't break the glass lol.

  • awesome i have a baby common snapper : - )

  • Very informative video. I keep a snapper and was curious what the function of that hole in the floor of the mouth was.

  • wow now i want one even more! they are amazing animals really just awesome, i thinks its really cool how they hatch the size of a quarter and in 30 years can be 30 inches big! really slow growers but really it all adds up, aww i want one so bad but i cant get one for no anyway =^], also nice to see you guys giving info on these giants, they are dangerous and deserve respect, they are ancient creatures who havent changed at in a long time!

  • stay under water for two days? wow

  • I enjoyed the video and it was informative about certain aspects of the AST.But the AST is not the Largest Freshwater turtle in the World. And aIso i find it really hard to believe that they never swim.

  • My grandchildren met Crunch last week, they fell in love with him and told me all about him.

Good video with lots of info, thank you for posting and thanks for sharing Crunch.

  • i can promise you that i've seen at least one that was much larger... i live in Arkansas....

  • great vid, awesome work you are doing to raise awareness, i keep an alligator snapper and hope to make the people around me learn that they are gentle creatures and not the monsters they are often portrayed as, similar to what you do with crunch but on a very small scale

keep up the great work guys!

  • ya u domie there reel gental they try to kill u im sayin there monsters but they aint genatl budy what r u P.I.E.D.A ya u will see how gental they are when u give it a good night kiss

  • lol that is not the biggest in the world at all, the biggest snapper in captivity is zzy A. Live at the bronx zoo...56 years old 170 lbs

  • The name of the turtle you have mentioned is Izzy (not zzy). According to the Bronx Zoo web site he is over 100 years old. Undoubtedly true. Listen closely; CRUNCH is one of the largest left alive. There are times in the season he weighs 180 lbs.

  • i meant to write izzy, its not tht hard to miss a letter on the key board......and crunch and izzy probably arent even in the top 10 alive...do you know how many there are lurking at the bottom of a pnd that are bigger than izzy and crunch..izzy and crunch might be the 2 biggest in captivity, but if they were compared with the wild ones..i dont think they have a chance lol

  • Most of the giants were slaughtered in the 60's and 70's with commercial trapping, but there is always hope and dreams! Thanks for your comments. Keep thinking...

  • @crunchinfo i see your trying to act smart. cool. good for you. you said Most were slaughtered, then tol the guy but theres always hope and dreams. well if they killed most that means the some out there. good job for contradicting your self. PEACE

  • @11aamiller You need to work on your reading comprehension.

  • last week a dirty jobs show aired about alligator snappers and the oldest one they had there they thought was 150 years old as it had musket balls from the civil war logged in its shell

  • The A.S.T. world record is 316 lbs. Swinhoe's soft-shell speculated up to 300 lbs. This species has legendary status among the people of Vietnam. Always arguable. You will find documentation stating both ways as far as which is the "largest species". There is also a South American species but the main thing making them bigger than A.S.T. was like the Swinhoe's, it is legend. Cars are not an increment of measurement I am familiar with??? Is that a U.S. standard or metric??? Thanks for input.

  • Dude, alligator snapping turtles are not the largest species in the world?? There is a species of soft shell turtle found in Vietnam the size of a small car!!

  • That's ONE awesome turtle. Prehistoric looking. Very informative video. Love to see that creature!!
