  • True Perry was employed to take the band to another level, but the band were mad at Herbie Herbert (their manager at first) because they were happy with Rob. Also if you look on the Album Infinity you will find that Journey's Wheel in the Sky was actually written by Neal Schon, Robert Flesichman & Ross Valory's wife, so in that respect this guy had songwriting talent as well. I'm a big Journey fan.

  • @JRNYmansparky If you read Herbie Herbert's "Castles Burning" interview, he recalled that specifically Neal Schon wasn't on speaking terms with him after he made the decision to giew Perry.

  • @viewerguy27 Hire. Sorry.

  • Such a beautiful voice. Unequaled in many ways. Check out the youtube videos by his younger brother Michael. "Bloom" and "Stone Ghosts" Really nice stuff.

  • up the cd in a blog rapidshare..

  • Please post every song.

  • @dp6876 posting every song in it's entirety leaves me open to having action taken against me by you tube, the record company and more. not worth it. I posted a grim reaper song in its entirety and that one is on the chopping block, you tube already sent me a notice to voluntarily take it down.

  • Rock classics by one of rock's great vocalsists

  • Robert and Vincent reunited and recorded a second unreleased album entitled PYRO MESSIAH. Its blistering assault goes beyond the first Invasion record if you can even imagine that. There are boots floating around of it. Its wicked!

  • Yes, Robert was and is a phenomenal singer who never got the "big break" and recognition he deserves. He was after all the first frontman of Journey and the original singer for Vinne Vincent Invasion.

  • Damn he sounds pretty good! He just had the tough breaks(journey, VVInvasion)

  • is this the same robert that wound up in vinnie vincents invasion?sounds the same.

  • Yes, The FUNNY thing is that it is out there says that Vinnie had Robert purposely sing like Mark because Vinnie wanted to hire Mark for the first album and due to not having a way to contact Mark for the interview (non working phone number) that Vinnie "made due" and had Robert do a "sound alike" so on the next album Mark could take over.

  • (sorry about the "is that it is out there" goof) / ANYway,... After hearing Robert sing so loud and clear here JUST like he did for Vinnie puts that rumor to bed for me. Although i would LOVE for Robert to read this and put that to bed for all time.

  • Robert was always meant to be the VVI singer. Vinnie later went on record saying that the Mark story was made up (they got him in after the first album cos his image was more commercial) and that he was really sorry that he got rid of Robert (under record company pressure), and felt guilty about treating his friend that way. The first VVI album is an OTT masterpiece in my opinion, and Vinnie is one of the greatest rock guitarists/songwriters out there. Robert kicks ass too.

  • If this WAS true (not), then why wouldn't they hook back up and do what they really wanted to do in the first place...?

I don't think V.V. is capable of having a friendship that doesn't benefit him finacially.

  • whats he doing these days?

  • James,

Thank you for sharing this gem.

If Robert had stayed on, Journey would have been a true rock band and not a bubble gummy mess. Can you picture him singing "Any Way You Want It"? I can. The song would have had much more growl. -Gives me a woodie just thinking about it!

  • He had the pipes...but he also had the attitude, and I guess that was the problem. Great voice, though, and great songwriter.

  • True, he did have a high maintenance attitude. At that time, Journey Manager Herbie Herbert saw the writing on the wall, before things really took off and ousted him for Perry instead. Plus he figured Perry's voice was a better fit for the band. In which Perry's was. I could NOT picture Robert singing "Any Way You Want It"

  • Neither could I. Plus, I don't think he would have written a song like that, for better or for worse.

  • The only reason Fleischman was let go was because he had a different manager and refused to ink a management deal with Herbie. Period. The only reason. He was not high maintenance or an attitude problem. Herbie just didn't like the fact Robert refused to allow Herbie to represent him. Look who turned out to be the prima donna, high maintenance whiner! Perry!

  • Regardless. Perry was mainly chosen because of the voice - taking the band to the next level. In which he did.

If the band didn't work with Perry. The record label was going to dissolve them.

  • While I don't agree with your opinion, I DO appreciate you being intellectually honest.

I could easily see Robert Doing "Any Way You Want It" but he might bite someone in the process. The song was mostly written by Neil Schon and he asked for input from new keyboardist and guitar player (at the time) Jon Cain. Of course, Perry was involved with it's creation too. That tells me that Neil would have passed the song onto Gregg and Robert if Perry never came along. An interesting ponder!
