I am sorry.....next time place your chin down toward your chest and breathe thru your nose. Also ask your assistant to make her mix thick and not runny! This may help:)

By placing aliginate in the palate it keeps voids to a minimum. It also great when taking an impression on those patients with a high palate so as to capture all of the anatomy. Many times a void will be created and appliances will not fit properly. Hope that helps :)

hi i have a really weak gag reflex and am just wondering how i can get my mouth impression taken without gagging and how long does it take to set??

@djrox666 Our material sets in about 30 seconds. It is best to relax, breath slowly and through your mouth. If the material is mixed thick it will not run near your throat and therefore your gag reflex should not be a problem. If needed once the impression material in place you can sit up and and draw your chin down toward your chest and this will allow your saliva to flow forward as well as making the impression material not sit near the back of your throat. @djrox666 my impressions took 10/15 seconds. The material almost was hard when they put it in my mouth. If you bend to the front that stuff can't come in your throat. And breathe through you nose. This was by my second ortho..the first was just terrible, too much material and too soft. so i was gagging. and my mom got mad at me, so we made an other appointment, and then i failed. again.. but i was 11 at that time...

now i have braces since almost 6 months. (:

I went for my consultation about 3 weeks ago and they took x-rays and then they said they have to wait for the insurence to get approved how long does it usually take?

@swimming79 Geberally for Ortho you have a Lifetime Max so you would have a set dollar amount. It is rare to need an approval unless the doctor is out of network. And as for a time frame each insuramce is run differently but proabably not longer than a week. I hope that helps.

just got my braces off today XD XD had to get these impressions done, bleck! XP i messed up the first one and my retainer didnt fit(i gagged too much, distorted the impression) but the second time i knew what was coming and didnt gag at all:) now i have my retainer and am enjoying no braces :D :D

i had to get these impressions done today AGAIN at my oral surgeons office and it stinks! They lost my 1st ones and i was a little ticked. That top impression is definitely the worst because you really feel like you just...might...GAG. Well, its what we go through to fix our bites. Once i get my jaw surgery (2 fix my open bite), it'll all be over and i can tear into that tough beef jerky and cry from the joy!! =D

i had impressions done twice...the 1st time was for invisalign and i gagged and pulled it out...and had to redo it (ugh)... and the 2nd time i was nervous but didnt gag and it was for this thing i have to wear at night to fix my midline shift...i just got it today...im not sure what its called though

they did something differently when I got my molds today.. I didn't gag but, after the molds got taken oput is when I made weird faces. All they did with me was talked to me about molds, firted the tray in to see if it would fit then they put the stuff in and then it went in my mouth and she kept pressing it to my teeth.

What is the importance of putting the extra alginate behind the front teeth? Just curious, thanks!

This allows the aliginate to fill the palate so there are no bubbles in the impression.

No if your teeth the bottom of the tray the impression will be distorted and will not represent the teeth properly.

I LOVED my impression with my dentist. He filled it with this blue stuff, didnt dry out my mouth (it felt nicer) and put it in and pressed it round. I had the giggles x3
