@Taikamya - while humbuckers may be a more versatile pickup, I think that the P90s are actually more capable of a grittier sound in the right guitar with the right amp. Listening to Phil play this particular LP, you can't honestly sit there and tell me the tones coming out of the amp weren't 100% hard rock or metal approved. You get some overwound P90s into a guitar, and no metal head will complain about the tone.

For starters, the PAF sounds dirtier and the Les Pauls nowadays simbolize more "hard rock" than "rock n roll" or "jazz" when it first started. So the P-90s are more traditional, the PAF's are more "normal".

Also Gibson sells more guitars with PAFs than with with P-90s so...

I do live the P-90s for clean sound and the ocasional rock n roll, but the humbuckers are beyond amazingness for the all-day hardrock. P-90s can't match it.

Why dont you guys ask Phil X to play this sort of stuff instead of the same overplayed covers he plays in order to satisfy the people that listen to stairway or back in black all day? I dont know about other people but I would watch tons of more other Fretted Americana video if he did the sort of stuff all the time in the vids.

@xPsuedo it's a different kind of single coil, with more mids and a sweeter tone perfect for neck position, just like p90's are a kind of single coil, overwounded and very powerful and clean at the same time. You could just call the "alnico 5" just another kind of p90, but it's not a standard p90. And yeah, alnico 5 is also the name of the material (aluminium, nickel, cobalt mix number 5) used for this pickup and for many others.
