This was not the Byrds, it was The Beefeaters and was released as a single on Elektra Records in 64, and bombed. Eventually, they would become The Byrds.
I am posting this in an effort to find some information on a record. I found the rarest Byrds record in a Shreveport, La. flea market in 2006(?). It's the Beefeaters 45 on the Bounty label. There is one known copy, I think. You can see it on the Byrdsflyght website on the discography page. (Just google.... byrdsflyght). The website owner says that he had been looking for that record for 44 years. Actually, he had never heard of it when I informed him of my find. Does another copy exist?
It was the second song that Roger and I wrote that night. I had Roger think of two chords (without telling me), and I came up with two chords (without telling him). He played an E) and I played a G. He played a D), and I played an E. We just kept playing that progression (E, G, D, E) till I came up with the first line: "Please, let me love you a while."
Electra put out 200 copies as the Beefeaters, Bounty probably picked up the single and re-released it.
Hello.This band is my most favourite American band of the 1960's; even this early version of this song sounds wonderful.The harmony of the singing and tasteful music makes the Byrds one of the finest acts of the last 50 years. thanks for sharing. Bob
Yes, same players, but the previous name was The Jet Set, changed to cash in on the Brit Invasion. They would become The Byrds some months later.

Actuall I think they (are trying to) sound like Gerry And The Pacemakers, yet another GREAT Liverpool band from the same period.

Sounds like Chris Hillman used this riff again on The Day Walk.

Not bad for a Beatles imitation.

@EmpZappa66 Except it's better.

@EmpZappa66 The "oh yeah" is kind of jarring, though, like they are saying; "hey just like The Beatles", which they didn't need to do.

I believe that they are the greatest American band to come out of that period.
