To say something like that demeans the artists who actually put their soul into their lyrics and music. I have absolutely nothing against the Tyler Perry films, because they have an audience, and who am I to turn my nose up. The problem is that there is no longer a sort of variety to what we see or even hear. It's the same types of films with the same actors, it's the same type of music with the same type of rappers and singers. The 90s brought us a variety of things...so much more 3D and not 2D! I've loved this movie since I was a kid (I know I shouldn't have been watching lol). CLASSIC!

People keep looking at Perry as some sort of black cinema savior who's letting us down, which makes absolutely no sense. He's said time and time again, that his movies basically have the same audience his plays had/have, which is why he continues with the Madea movies. I can't get mad at that. The problem is lack of variety in film.

As a fan of drama and action movies, I got to say that this movie is one of my all time favorites. Perfect blend of music, intellect, romance and reality. Happy to say that I recently met a wonderful woman and on our first date, I took her to a poetry cafe. Needless to say, the idea was inspired by this movie. I wish there more movies like this.
