  • ops! at 4:47... someone didn't get the right chord! Even Dream Theater are humans... ;-)

  • @lordvoldimort1976 Suck my diiiiccckk you piece of white trash!! That's why you will never play like dream theater !

  • @raiders4life37 You. Stop that.

    @lordvoldimort1976 You. Also stop that.

  • Ya Dream Theater might be good but nobody can be ass good as Pink Floyd. I grow up with Pink Floyd back in the 70's They have the best music to get high and relax to. So DT go piss up a rope.

  • Gilmour is so proud of you John!

  • This is really good, it doesn't quite suit the singer's voice, but you can still tell he is a good singer. Petrucci's interpretation is great too, it isn't very different to the original, but he expresses it so well and has his own take on it.

  • @nickstix66 You saved me the trouble of wording how I felt about this version of the album myself.

  • I don't like at all the singer's voice but the interpretation of the totally song it's great.

It's no easy to play Pink Floyd!

  • y esto pa q?

  • The singing is really bad ! Maybe I've found my problem with DT ? No ! Why the hell doing a 1:1 of a great song ? Why 1:1 ???

This band will never do anything important !

  • Great 1:1 !

Never bought "Dark side of the moon" .. and this was a wise decision. Worst album of Pink Floyd until 1990 !

Dinking two or three Espresso in front of the Cologne Dome is the same money, but it's far more fun than listening to this bad album ... and far more fun than listening to this totally superfluous cover of DT.

  • Labrie rapes my soul when he sings this

  • love that drummer

  • I'd say that Dream Theater's version of this album is far better then The Flaming Lips AWFUL version

at least you can recognise the songs in this one

The Flaming Lips version is just a good example of why you shouldn't fuck with perfection

  • @TinkerPauI616 At least the Flaming Lips version tries something different instead of creating a carbon copy like this version.

  • @ysmr4140 I Agree

  • Petrucci = Pokemon

  • this would have been better if the singer had performed in mime

  • the best!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • petrucci looks like a total retard

  • Un clásico de "monstruos" interpretado por unos "maestros"!

  • 感動しました。30年ぶり? なつかしい~~

  • Most people try to pull this off and fail miserably. But this isn't bad. Dream theater does a damn good job in my book but I don't think that singer can pull off anything close to what Gilmour did but thats just my opinion. Other than the singer this is awesome.

  • fantastici!!! ma la voce di LaBirie non si adatta al genere :)

  • Musically really good n' close to the original but the singer should consider not singing...

  • @TheSwedeMcCoy this song isn't even remotely close to his voacl style or range

  • perfect

  • i thought that Dave mustaine was the singer of Megadeath and not Dream Theater hahahahahhaha ok just kidding ... but anyways really great cover except for the fact that the singers voice is shit to sing this song ... sounds nothing like David Gilmours voice tune

  • This sounds like a genuine Floyd soundcheck with a roadie singing. If the overall arrangement wasn't that painstakingly reproduced, i wouldn't be picky about the vocals at all. This is not a rip, i admire the effort, and Dreamtheater reigns their niche supreme, but undue defamation of critics needles me. Go ahead, call me names, but the fact remains.

  • @ballonfisch Either post a video of you singing this song better then LeBrie or stfu

  • This is really excellent but and i know i'll get loads of hate mail and thumbs down

but no-one can do it like Pink floyd can but that's just my personal oppinon

  • You people rippiing On DT are FUCKING LOSERS

  • can someone tell me why a great band of instumentalist like dream theatre has to have a horrible out of tune singer, its just so annoying.

  • Awesome (and this is a 48 year old pink floyd die hard). Somebody has to carry the torch and that is one safe pair of hands IMHO.

  • P E R F E C T

  • That was highly freaking awesome. Those of you who don't like are the ones who go around with your shitty attitudes and post negative stuff on hundreds of videos a day because you have no lives and want to try and make everyone elses outlook on life as shitty as yours!!! It says Dream theater, not pink floyd. They are just paying tribute to it. not trying to be an exact copy. Whats the point of that????

  • hmm... how to define this music?

I would say It's like a Dream Floyd in a Pink Theater

  • Petrucci is really stupendous

  • F.A.I.L.E.D

  • @agusbudiman08 apparently, you dont know about music

  • Trust Petrucci to learn that solo to note perfection XD.

  • i must admit those lads have bollocks

  • Dream Theater has pretty obvious influences. Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Queen and Iron Maiden instantly come to mind. It's natural for them to play covers, and, IMO, they're pretty good at it. It's not like we can expect to watch the full Dark Side of the Moon played this well by Waters and Gilmour nowadays.

  • You know, there are people who are inspired by musical Influences.. not everyone's voice is dead on with a singer... if you all want to become critics all of the sudden.. There is not one single person with an ear for music who has not sung a Pink Floyd song in their life.. stop bitching and you all get on stage and give it your best shot.. bet you can't sound like Gilmore or Labrie either.Enough said..

  • Pretty nice cover, but in my opinion i don't like James's voice for this song...

  • very far from pink floyd.....

  • Myung is my favourite bass player he really rocks. He does his job perfectly. Awesome dude.

  • Not a fan of the vocals

  • John Myung has a really good bass.

  • AWESOME!!

  • lol at all of you saying that the 'Aussie PF' or 'PF experience' cover this better. WELL DUH, that's their job to replicate. Dream Theater are a real band with a full catalog of their own. they are doing this in tribute to PF and doing a hell of a job.

  • @chrisbDTM Yeah, let me know when Pink Floyd Experience covers Octavarium. hahaha.

  • @chrisbDTM And it's not even true. Just listen to the covers... this one is a lot better. Aussie Pink Floyd is pretty good tho.

  • I remember this night well. It was the second night they played the Carling Apollo in London, which I was lucky enough to get good tickets for. The first night they played all the best songs from Octavarium and the second night the latter half they covered the Dark Side of the Moon album. I wish I'd gone to the first night.....

  • Nice job Dream Theater..best cover I have heard.. when you cover a classic, of course people respect it, but its simply not the orignal.

  • Nice job DT. SK8, lighten up..

  • Very nice! The sound of music is very close to the original one even if the voice or the singer is different. I like it!

  • John put so much tone and feeling in that guitar solo... awesome!

  • horrible voice

  • Muy buena, ahhh dream theater!!!!

  • The Aussie Pink Floyd do actually sound quite like PF more than these but these are making it a bit more there own, personally i don't enjoy listening to this version, it's not shite, just not for me.

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing stuff! But I've never wanted Petrucci to shave more in my life.

  • Valiant effort, my ass! I'm a fan, and I've some DT covers that make me cringe, but this is pretty over the top awesome! It's about as close as you can get without BEING Pink Floyd, for goodness sake!

  • good job on the instrumentals, it's hard to recreate gilmore's vocals, but it's a cover so good job!

  • you gotta have balls and be damn good to pull off a pink floyd cover. of course your not gonna sound like gilmour or waters ur not them but these guys did this song justice

  • I really hate this guy's voice

  • @careano Opinions are like assholes... yours just happens to stink more than most.

  • I've been listening to these covers and I have a lot of respect for them. Though, I must say, the rotary tom section in the beginning was a lot better on the original. Though there are some parts Dream Theater does better. So it really all depends.

  • Phantastic!!

  • petrucci super saiyan

  • I usually like his vocals but here they just sound weird.

  • PINK FLOYD better than dream theater...

  • awesome ;)

  • great song

  • I listended to so many stupid shit covers of this great song, but this one ist awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nothing to write home about, try Aussie Floyd.

  • I love Pink Floyd, anyway the DT did a good job!!

  • james la brie has always been the biggest let down for DT...

  • An incredibly faithful copy. The vocals are quite good and the instrumentals are even better than the originals. Still I like the original version better. It's just a matter of authenticity for me. But these guys did an absolutely bang-up job.

  • Fucking epic.

  • BEST when you listen to this with the HEADPHONES!!

  • This song never fails to scare the shit outta me in the beginning -_-

  • Off Key. partly and.vocals are nothing to rave about. many cover bands on you tiube do the same...hey i at least gave it a listen....moving on to the nexct video.

  • I fuckin hate the way he sings :D it's so fairy

  • Wow, that singer's voice is AWFUL ! ewww!

  • @Smashinz2002 you´re right

  • Even pink Floyd does it different when they play it out. I think this cover rocks. I play it on drums myself and pretty close to Nick but I add a HH chick with y foot on 2 and 4 because I like the sound of it in the song and its more fun to play it that way.

  • Dude this is stupid, whats the point covering a band when they sound exactly the same? dream theater did it their own way and they did it good but not better than pink floyd.

  • wow...great!!!!!!!!

  • gilmour would be proud

  • I can't stand Labrie's voice. The song starts cool, but something has broken in my ears when I heard that f***** noise.

    Labrie, go home!!!

  • GREAT VERSION

  • Man this is singer is worse than my grandma... who is dead..

Sorry but I hate his voice, ruining this classic.

Only reason I hate DT, sorry ;\

  • The word "cover" seems to be misunderstood. Playing a cover is basically showing people what it sounds like when your band plays someone elses song. If you want an exact replica of the original song, then why don't you just go listen to Pink Floyd?

This is what it sounds like when Dream Theater plays "Time". Not Pink Floyd.

  • But listening to the Pink Floyd recording would not be an "exact replica" after all.

    Logic fail.

By the way, this is an excellent cover.

  • Comment removed

  • No they can not be Pink floyd I heat when one little band want sing one Masterpiece from king of rock

  • it's a bit too samey to the original one, the flaming lips/stardeath and white dwarfs cover is imo much better. this is pretty good though

  • this is wonderful

  • PERFECT

  • oh my god just like pink floyd! its just the vocal which is different, but nothing can be perfect. Thumbs up, 11/10

  • it's good. except for the tool singer lols

  • davvero bravi complimenti

  • very well done, I,m impressed !!!

  • Excellent solo

  • Love It

  • its not really a matter of covering the song or adding your own work when you think about Pink Floyd songs. Of course Dream Theater does a great job, they are awesome... But Pink Floyd is in whole another dimension. Songs such as Time, Breath, Hey You or Comfortably Numb (I would not mention Echoes or Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun at all because they are unique) can never give the same feeling in any cover, and the vital part of Pink Floyd songs (imho) is their feeling, continues...

  • moco de gorila del petrucci

  • the music is brilliant...the minute the singer opens his mouth, everything gets ruined! and not only on this cover, but most of their original songs aswell...maybe im alone here, but his voice really sucks for me!

  • I could sing better with my ass

  • karaoke.

  • Sounds very much like Dream Theater, hence a very good cover!

  • I love DT but it makes no sense when the weakest link by far is the singer....it'd be so easy to replace him and get someone that won't ruin the fantastic musicianship of the rest of the band the minute he opens his gob to croak.

  • wow, my favorite album done by my favorite band, its like Christmas hearing this!

  • I think this is an absolutely wonderful cover. The fact that DT would cover Floyd shows that they have respect for PF. I think its great that one of today's best bands is playing the "timeless" masterpiece of yesterday's best band. Sure it sounds different, but covers are supposed to be interpretations of originals - all in all, I think this is spot on.

  • Is this London or Amsterdam?

  • Awesome cover from the best band ever.... bad crowd tough...

  • it's a goddamn cover, if it sounds different than the original its because ITS NOT FUCKIN FLOYD ASSHOLES. DT rules and this is a fantastic cover.

  • Right on , oneofspades!!

  • It takes a true musician or someone with a good ear to hear how well this was done. I love Gilmour, but this solo was excellent as was the whole song. Some people are just so closed minded, they don't know any better. It's pretty sad. Great job Dream Theater!!

  • Nobody can play that solo like Dave but this could be a close second.

  • im sick of seeing the word "valiant effort" shut the fuck up people and enjoy the music. of course the original is always better, bu this is awsome as well. james did a good job, but he does have a different sound than gilmore that cant really be compared.

  • @sk8metalnick6 I agree. its a good version

  • @sk8metalnick6 totally agree mate. Thanks for this post.

  • @sk8metalnick6 two words

  • @sk8metalnick6 How is the original always better? I can name dozens of covers that are (way) better than the original..

  • @sk8metalnick6 How is the original always better? I can name dozens of covers that are (way) better than the original..

My opinion: Music = perfectly done. Voice = bad.

  • @cdorresteijn you can't make a better version of dark side of the moon. Now there are good covers, but Pink Floyds version will always be best.

  • @sk8metalnick6 original is not always better

  • A valiant effort, but you cannot beat the oldies.

  • LOL is this some sort of a joke?

  • can't hear the slide of the fingers on the strings.

and yes, I listened to it that loud...... always do

  • valiant effort, but nobody does it better than floyd/gilmour, and the solo has to be played with a strat, it doesn't sound right on anything else....good effort though...

  • valiant effort, but nobody does is better than floyd/gilmour...

  • C'm on, James has one of the most expressive voices ever. If you don't get the chills during the solo, you definitely get them during the singing.

  • Other than the lead vocals, this cover was dead on. Petrucci's solo was fantastic, but I'm not a fan of the whole Backstreet Boy hair he has going on. But when you can play like that, you can do whatever the fuck you want with your hair haha

  • It's obvious that they can't sound like pink floyd, otherwise pink floyd could be replaced by a many bands. Neither can DT sound like pink floyd nor can pink floyd sound like DT.

They respect pink floyd and shows it to them in the best way ever possible.

Maybe James Labrie doesn't sound like Gilmore, but so what?

If you would hear a friend of you singing along to pink floyd (without knowing of your prescence), would you instantly say "shut the fuck up, you doesn't sound like gilmore"?

  • @Thorgran2 Amen to that!

  • Comment removed

  • man it aint that band considering there music is completing diffrent just the singer shouldve took of the rasp on his voice

  • I regret seeing this video!! It's so embarasing... Some songs are not to be covered...Especially by famous bands... They embarass themselves and are ruining the songs... OMFG my eyes are bleeding..Especially vocals....IT SUCKS!!

  • How to ruin a masterpiece...

  • DT Clowns

  • I think I'll just stick to Pink Floyd. They mastered it so I don't see any reason to listen to anything less. To there credit, the solo was not bad at all, but the singing was awful.

  • porra esse vocal do dt é uma merda cara!

  • Amazing! guitarist is a god! he plays like Gilmour himself

  • u don't know good music then! Then

  • 4:38 wtf? O.O

  • i don´t like at all the pitch of this voice for this song in particular, gilmore sings it with more emotion and harsh-like, this one really doesn´t tell me anything, sorry, imho

  • I like..how much??

  • I have to say, the singing on this version is not what it should be, not at all. I wore out a dozen of the tapes when it first came out, I have it memorized, every note that should be there, vocally and instrumentally, this version isn't bad instrumentally, but vocally it's like a half octave off all the way through.

  • yea i agree, everything else is great. dont get me wrong the guy sings really nice but gilmore sings higher than this guy. even though he dosnt sing as high as gilmore it was still a very nice performance

  • @hujucie Yeah, so it goes, the replacement is never as good as the original.

  • yea basicaly, specially when the original is Pink Floyd

  • 1 thing is to perform a cover and another to write a song...........

  • Pink Floyd couldnt play this better than these guy live :D DT rooooooles :D

  • Actually they could.

  • Did they?

  • Did they? and the two people who did not like this comment sorry abt that, i didnt know u had a problem with facts. please post a video response to my comment showing Pink Floyd doin the same song with the same constraints that DT had.

  • oh yes they could, maybe if you stopped being retarded you would realize that. and besides the vocals were totally fucked up in this cover.

  • hmmm... not impressed... could you provide a stronger argument? I think James LaBrie has done a good job here. i dont understand what Fucked up means. And btw please post a link to show a better cover, and by pink floyd themselves under similar constraints that DT had. Now have i stopped being retarded?

  • ... i can't describe fucked up because it is a variable when it comes to these types of things. I'm saying that LaBrie's singing ruined the song. And what do you mean by constraints? Lack of talent? Complete misunderstanding of what vocal inflections make the song what it is? you gotta be specific. No there is not a better cover (that i know of), quality is based on comparison to other travesties of the sort, if it's better than the rest does that make it good? Even comparable to the original?

  • the singer...arg!

  • argmin ? i think argmax :D :P

  • Love the Floyd covers of DT, From a cover i just expect a different version of the classic.

Petrucci is awesome, his technic is flawless but i dont know if it's because his play is almost exactly like the album version, but his solos arent giving me any feeling whatsover like Gilmour does.

Not here to argue about who between them is the best. I think Petrucci is fast and very technical as if his guitar was a tool, and where Gilmour might be slower but put some feeling in his play. :)

  • omg rite

  • John Petrucci looks so weird with short hair like that. But he was fucking perfect with every single note. At least to my knowledge. I don't know how to play the guitar, but I've listened to it more than, meh, any other song of theirs.

  • solo could have been better, but at least he didn't fuck it up like he did comfortably numb and hey you

  • @LeftiesWillRule lets see you rip out this solo better

  • @carolinapanthers187 now you see a comment like that would have been appropriate had i not been replying to something. If i may quote, "But he was fucking perfect with every single note". THIS was the specific phrase i was replying too. it was not, perfect, and that is what i said. Did i say i could play it better? i did not, did i say that this solo was so bad that anybody could do better? no i said it could have been better, which it could have been.
