  • What about the Mr. Blobby game? lol (I'm not being serious, though it was a reasonably fun game kinda ^_^;;)

  • Some great platformers - and er... Oscar as well!

  • MYTH !!! This game will never gets old

  • Great selection men!

  • I definitely miss New Zealand Story as its one of the cooles comic cartooned platform game...

  • Good games, many good games on Ami... <3

  • don't get me wrong,my neighbour had both the Amiga and an ST back in the day and we used to have hours of fun playing games one em and thought they were the bee's knees but in hindsight none of these games really have the same playability, level design, identifiable characters or charm as something like SMB3 or Contra on the NES except maybe the great giana sisters and Turrican..Zool too i suppose but it was as though they were either lacking something or too over cooked..just my humble opinion

  • GREMLINS 2: new batch and FLOOD were also good platform games....I dont say they are missing in the list; just also good platform games

  • Fury of the Furries has a groovy little tune - I like.

  • You forgot you forgot you forgot... Shut up! "of the best"... This is not a video showing every platform game in Amiga history, just some of the best! And Moonstone, a platformer?!

  • yes you forgot Moonstone. Instead of chuckrock I would add Moonstone but still its great list, though the order may change. Well this list is actually all about platform games so it doesnt include many great games but the most of the lists are stuck in the past and forget these past 1991 games. Yo!Joe, Traps&Treasures, Benefactor, Superfrog, Ruff'n Tumble, Fire and Ice, James Pond 2 ( though it was not in this list )... these are, IMHO, the best games of platform genre.

  • You forgot Moonstone!

  • Were Flashback and Out of This World made by the same developer?

  • @scottvska Yes, The same team (Delphine Software) made both games.

  • @scottvska yes

  • Great videos!!

Do you know the M & M's game for AMiga?

  • Soccer Kid!!!! 6:25

    I MISS YOU!!! ç___ç

  • Toki and Elf...

  • good list but how the hell is Rainbow Islands not on it?! one of the best platform games ever. I would have switchblade 2 in there as well and New Zealand Story and First Samurai and Lionheart.

  • ehi man nice top 20 but you forgot TOKI!!!

  • I not disagree very much with the list but there are betters games to include like Aladdin, arabian nights, brian the lion, bubble and squeak, james pond 2 or 3,onescapee ect

  • + wolfchild, + dune I and dune II and much more : P

  • You forgot Sensible World Of Soccer, Cannon Fodder, Worms and much more ;)

  • @PERRECTUMpl platform games..

  • Nice video. Didn't know the game Oscar, but its fun how the sound is EXACTLY the same as the sound in Trolls.

  • I tried Benefactor and the control suck big tities.

  • @kpreston69 benefactor was really good, do you play using a joystick?

  • My favourite is Soccer kid :)

  • Iam in on New Zealand story... and perhaps Flood :)

  • GODS...such a brilliant game. These bitmap brothers sprites were so cool. (still are).

"shadow of the beast", I think was highly over rated, more hype than gameplay.

    NO "New Zealand Story"..."Magic Pockets"...??????

  • Some great games there for sure.....anyone who disagrees with that selection had better have a good case to put forward....who ever I was hoping to see harlequin up there.

    Thanks for the upload :-)

  • well now, GODS was beautiful, but kinda stiff, compared to Magic Pockets from the same guys

  • Oh my God thank you very much :) I was looking for of TRAPS'N'TREASURES for so log time! thank you so much :)

  • Good list. What about Killing Game Show and Myst

  • @jcamjcam : platform games...

  • 7MHz... 7MHz!!! can you imagine?

  • Great!

  • How could I disagree with such a well-made video! Great title cards and great choices. PP Hammer and Giana Sisters are on my list. Ive got Shadow of the Beast 3 too, iys great.

  • @bencheshire

thanks! i remember having fun putting this video together and trying to squeeze it in then still 10 minute YT video limit :D hence why only 20 best and no more...

  • @kad3t As long as you don't have copyrights or delete every copyright you do have you can now have unlimited time limits with a 2GB file size limit like usual.

  • Oscar has been given recycled sfx from Trolls, i know its the same company but couldnt they come up with something new?

  • Rodland music is so happy, takes me back to 1991.....

  • 1 bad person is an atari lover

  • Comment removed

  • Glad to see flashback and superfrog in here, 2 very underrated games especially flashback. One game you have missed is the chaos engine, thats my fave game of all time

  • @warwick2155

i'm pretty sure i've included Chaos Engine in 20 best shooters video as it was not a platformer per se :)

  • 3 GAMES FROM THE AMIGA PAST YOU MUST TRY:

    MORPH

    HARLEQUIN

    B.A.D

  • My new Amiga-compatible SAM 460 arrived 2 weeks ago, tell you what its exciting to be back using AmigaOS once again! And lots of software updates coming this summer as well, a WebKit browser (like Safari), FireFox 4, OpenOffice (well next year likely). A full Mesa graphic experience at some point this year hopefully, future is looking quite rosy for anyone wanting to relive AmigaOS. Check out amigaos(dot)net for the low-down.

  • turrican is just pure class! but wheres Alfred Chicken xD

  • Turrican 2 FTW!

  • Did Digital Illusion make anything more than the Pinball games? Those were fantastic.

  • P.P. Hammer equals platformer epicness!!!

  • some nice choices, but where's putty, harlequin, car-vup, nebulus, switchblade, fantastic dizzy, steg the slug, rainbow islands, flood, aladdin etc?

  • And where is TROLS and James Pond ??

  • @Literacki

In all fairnes it was a personal listing of 20 best games in my opinion and I never really enjoyed neither Trolls nor James Pond... Sorry.

  • Will you be doing more of these? I think a Strategy or RPG video is in order.

  • @Alianger

Eventually I will... To be honest I was thinking of redoing all the videos using 15 minute video length limit on YT that was back then only 10. And maybe changing it to 25 games using some of the recommended ones from comments but it's not gonna happen yet. I have some things on me mind now but series will restart some time this year...

  • @kad3t It's definitely doable with such a vast library of great games, looking forward to the reboot :)

  • axels magic hammer was good

  • Must check which ones havent got Amiga Longplays yet.

  • @Lemmy556

Amiga Longplays page is probably the best page to check that out. ^_^

  • giana sisters is better on c64 Yoł

  • @kleke84

    Arguably everything's better on C64. ^_^

  • where can youget these games? are they on pc, old consoles..?

  • @airsoftbuddies50

All on Amiga, an old 16bit computer. So, you can get them dead cheap on eBay along with the computer itself or through emulation on your PC, and if you want details on emulation send me a personal message.

  • I think that Robocod should really be in there... pretty good selection all the same

  • @mccloryart

    Thanks!

It's just 20 best in my opinion platformers for Amiga, I should've put it somewhere in the description really. ^_^ Everyone will have their favorites but only some of them will show up on everyone's list and only those should really be considered "the best". ^_^ But I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't trying to be objective, I chose only based on my own tastes. ^_^ And I didn't like JP games all that much.

  • Nice Amiga compilations! nice taste!!!

  • @LOveERDos

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

  • Here a Turrican lover who never got to play Zool... :o$

But... where the heck is "Titus the Fox"?

Nice Amiga compilations either way, kad3t.

  • @mastegas

    Thanks!

I was considering Titus the Fox but I'm afraid that Fire & Ice won that round. ^_^

  • Nice compilation... i would add Baby Joe, Blues Brothers, Prehistorik and James Pond ;)

  • @Dude110481

I know that those that you mentioned were considered classics but I just never enjoyed them as much as games of my choice... I suppose everone's different. ^_^

  • @kad3t

    what about Magic Pockets? :P

  • @Dude110481

Magic Pockets was a fine game, indeed but was it better than any other on this list?

  • @kad3t

it was much better than chuck rock, but this is my opinion. And do you remember Hard'n'Heavy? ahhh, good old times ;)

  • @Dude110481

Heh... Actually, I don't. ^_^ Hard'n'Heavy you say... I'm gonna check that one out as the name rings a bell but I can't remember anything else... ^_^

  • The first zool game is my favorite 2D platformer of all time,

I saw the game first on a Review on screwattack (the website)

And brought the SNES version.... and it convinced me to buy a Amiga CD32

just for the sequel and I bought the first one again for the system

Since then I leered more about the amiga and now Im a fan

Thus thanks to an 18 year old game Im a Amiga user today !

  • @janmansde3dede

LOL! Great story, actually. Most people, like myself, have stories from way back, and you're like a total opposite. It's good to know, that the system not only will never die in memories of it's former users but also gets a new ones as well.

Btw. you know that by just buying a simple addon with disk drive, mouse and keyboard you can turn your CD32 to a full fledged Amiga 1200?

  • @kad3t I don't use the CD32 as a Computer that just stays a awesome Console

I have a 68060 Amiga 1200 with PPC (and a 500 for old games) at the moment

    Im Waiting for the X1000 : )

Btw. Did you know that two books are based on Zool ?

  • @janmansde3dede

It all seems like a sweet setup. Kudos to you, sir! ^_^

As for X1000, are you planning on buying it? Heard about the price? It's just massive! Anyway, where there really books based of Zool? Regular books or like kiddies stories?

  • @kad3t Thanks : )

Yeah I have saving for it a while (have about 1200 -1300 Euros)

And Yes two young adult novels have been based on Zool

Zool rules and its sequel Cool Zool which I accidentally brought first,

And I must say for the second one's stetting is Really similar

to that horrible Sonic X series (hero stranded on earth and local teen helps),

Not that I watch kids television but my little cousin is a little sonic twat X(....

  • @janmansde3dede

1200-1300... You're nearly there then, aren't you? Please post a video of it running if possible, when you get it. I'd love to see the beast in action. I mean not in promotional video.

As for Zool I would've expect any RPG title to be made into a book, but platformer? Weird... Was it popular at all? I never seen it, so I wouldn't know but can use that fact as a base for judgment. ^_^

  • @kad3t The two books (not for the games) are BARLY known so yeah : )

Alright ! ... after buying ....mmn.... I have 1.50 euro for camera equipment,

    Damn ! 1.50 ! I never saw that much money together ! :O

  • @janmansde3dede

You bought it already!? Awesome... Please, please, pretty please with Amiga Competition Pro Joystick on top, post the video of it running, or even unboxing, or both... Please. Send it to me or link it here. I can't wait to see it. ^_^ Honest!

  • @kad3t Sorry man !, for one the X1000 release date had been delayed to

somewhere before Christmas, so I don't have one....

And I really don't have anything to record with except for a Cheap camera on my

phone that I can't use on my Amiga (still a student !).

But we can be for sure that someone else does a unboxing, running video ! : )

  • @janmansde3dede

Oh, well though. I wouldn't mind the cell recording anyway...

On the other hand if the delayed the shipping that's kind of suspicious cause it either means that they didn't get enough orders to justify production or that there's been some serious issues with the machine's hardware meaning it wasn't tested enough...

  • @kad3t Hot damn ! Almost forgot that I actually did made a X1000 video !

(copy and paste in screech bar)

X1000 Speed Demo at Triple Z

I made the footage of it running Quake and a amazing 3D demo with mutitasking

    ; )

(P.s some guys asked my footage so they edited the video saying that Quake runs at 57 frames o_o, must be a typo...)

  • @janmansde3dede

I'm sorry but i'm on holiday at the moment and wont be able to watch it until i come back.

  • First Samurai!

  • @Vebinz And then... Second Samurai! ^_^

  • so is Flashback like Blackthorne, then? I liked that game a lot...

  • @krononomikon

Yes, but Flashback whilst still having quite a lot of action has more puzzles and is more of an adventure game than an action title alone. If you're a thinkig games lover you'd enjoy Flashback more and still have some action in it but if you prefer killing over thinking on your computer, than Blackthorne is your choice.

  • @kad3t ok, so do you think it'd be closer to something like Out of this World/Another World?

    watch?v=Zgkf6wooDmw

  • @krononomikon

Another World was precursor to Flashback, made by same company - France based Delphine Software. AW is dark, climatic and very VERY difficult, at least for a Sunday player. When thinking about these two in relation to Blackthorne then Flashback is more similar to it but honestly neither is, they just use same POV and mechanics. Out of the lot, I'd have to say that Flashback is best all rounder, best game. But that's just my opinion. Try them all out! ^_^

  • @kad3t thanks again! :D

  • This is a great choice of top quality platformers but it's only 20 of hundreds excellent classics. Ruff n' Tumble (like most Renegade titles) shows what were the capabilities of 1MB A500. The music in Amiga games IS fabulous (listen on good speakers with subwoofer). That's why Amiga was so popular.

  • @Scumkill2

I still am amazed that a game like Ruff'n'Tumble was never released on home consoles back then. It looked like a right good SNES game and played awesome too. But I suppose you have to remember that even though being a PC, Amiga rivaled against likes of SNES or Genesis as much as it rivaled against (IBM) PC.

  • Amiga was more like a mix of console (you could plug it into TV) and computer. Quality games, many great software like music, painting, video tools and user friendly operating system. Great choice for strategy (K240, UFO, Settlers, Dune II, Mega-lo-mania, Centurion, Lords of the Rising Sun, Simcity, Theme Park) and original multigenre games. It was a great platform for creative gamemakers, because of it's hardware capabilities, especially great sound and reliability.

  • @Scumkill2

Well, most Amiga games run just by inserting a diskette, no configuration neccessary, so yes, it was sort of like a console. Unlike PC of the time that required of user not only to load all the appropriate drivers for mouse and memory management but also needed him/her to configure the sound settings to be able to play with sound at all.

  • @kad3t It's really sad that today's market is dominated by one type of computer. Even Macs are more like gadgets for "individuals" with more cash. There's no Commodore, Atari, Sinclair anymore. The 80's and early 90's were good time of interesting computing and real competition on the computer market.

  • @Scumkill2

I suppose you're right and MACs are just PCs with a different OS now. On the other hand having one set of hardware parts and different OSes (Linux, Windows, Mac, etc.) provides us with cheap (compared to years ago) hardware and relative easy of driver portability for said hardware. So, it's hard to say weather it's good or bad that we only have one major architecture. As there's clear up sides to it as well.

  • I LOVED Turrican! :D Good to see some old favourites.

  • @sleepingforests

Glad you liked them. However people pointed out few of the games that also could've ended up on the listing... Maybe it's worth checking them out as well?

  • I was always partial to Leander... :-) Nice vid...

  • @desiv1

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy my uploads!

  • thanks a lot, these were the best years for video game !!!!

  • nooo, toki and price of persia, where are they ? :(

  • @turelion85

Well, there's many great platform games and since it's my listing I left those out as I never liked Toki and found the games on the list to be better IMO than otherwise great Prince of Persia.

  • Excellent video. Thanks for giving me ideas on which games to play with on the Amiga. I wish I had this computer growing up.

  • @dazealex

Welcome. My most memorable gaming experiences of my childhood (well, my late teen years really) were with Amiga. There's literally heaps of awesome games for it, especially platformers, so putting this list in particular was not easy.

  • The Great Giana Sisters was such a Mario rip off... But heyt, I still loved it!!

  • @WeLoveKirby

Yeah... They even banned it as Nintendo had a lawsuit against the creators ready... Conversely it was a better game than Mario, as it expanded on the idea.

  • @kad3t I agree, I did enjoy it a hell of alot more than Mario.

  • @WeLoveKirby

It was basically Mario but with some slight changes and improvements.

  • I agree pretty much with most of them although you should have found room for Putty and Heimdal. The main problem is that there are some really great games on the Amiga. I am glad you included Rodland though. I really enjoyed that game.

  • @chip5541

Rodland was RAD and I'd rather chop of one of my fingers than swap it for anything else. ^__^ As for Heimdal it had some RPG elements and was in isometric view so because of that (especially the view) I didn't clasify it as platform game. Putty... Hmm... The name rings a bell but I just can't concentrate...

  • @kad3t jeez, in regards to Heimdall, that is what I get for repsonding when I am half asleep.

  • @chip5541 ^__^

  • I would agree with pretty much all of them except for Rick Dangerous 2 (based more on luck and remembering where everything is so you can avoid it) and Oscar which really was just the game Trolls with a different sprite for the main character. For me, something just didn't sit right with that game :( Great video though :)

  • @blade004

Heh... Check my review of Rick Dangerous I & II on my Retro gaming blog (link on my channel description), I love those games but they sure feel as if they were made just to punish the player from start to an end. ^__^ As for Oscar it just looked great. Played mediocre but looked as if it was made for a video gaming console.

  • Hi, thanks for your anserd. I saw Ruff n tumble but at that moment my first mail was away. I must say i cant belive that Ruff n Tumble comes out from an amiga 500. But i know its correct its an amiga 500 game. Wow what colours and what a scorlling geafics and sound for an amiga!!! It looks wonderful!! The gameplay is a little bit like metal slug!! It must be verry rare, i never saw it before. How much is this game today?? Thanks for your anserd.

  • @Tamariiss

Yep. R'N'T runs on vanilla A500 like a charm, full 50 (or 60 if you're in the US) fps no slow downs at all. ^__^ I'm not sure how pricey it is these days but it's downloadable from p l a n e t e m u . n e t website if you're interested of playing it on your PC.

  • Another great video!!! Thanks for upload!!! Wow "OSCAR" looks verry good. I should buy it. Its a pleasure to watch your clear videos!!!

    Greetings from Germany!!

  • @Tamariiss

    Hey neighbor! ^__^

Oscar looked good but played so-so, to be honest with you. I mean the beginning of the game was fun but as you progressed it sort of kept loosing its charm bit by bit. Another big-sprite awesome looking game - Ruff'N'Tumble - didn't fail at all. So, if you never had a chance give that one a go and you'll love it!

  • good old games :)

I will download some emulators I think

  • @gombabacsi

I think you should. There's still some awesome games on the net if you're willing to look for them. This, here, is just a peak of a mountain! ^__^

  • Very good choice there Sir :D

  • @ScrewAttackEurope

Thanks. Obviously to cover ALL the good platformers on Amiga I'd needed way more than 20 titles but as YT has it's limits I had to pick those I found to be the best. Some may not agree as seen below (or above, depending where new YT will place this comment ^__^) but they're happy to make their own top 20 and post it in response to this video. ^__^

  • @kad3t Top # are painful to make as there's someone out there who'll disagree with you and rip you apart in the process.

We get that a lot from the Top Tens we put up on TGWTG!!!

  • @ScrewAttackEurope

Well, I suppose you can't please everybody... But the question is wether you really want to? Nah, there are better things in life to aim for. ^__^

  • @kad3t I personally would have added, Quik and Silva, New Zealand Story, Toki, Magic Pockets, Batman the Movie & the Blues Brothers to the list :D

  • @ScrewAttackEurope

When I was recording this video I had to do a playthrough (well, not right to the end but for a bit) of each game to see how I felt about them after the years that have gone by as I don't play all of them on a regular basis. And I have to say that I didn't enjoy Blues Brothers a lot... Maybe it's my keyboard & I should've have to try it with a pad but the controls and the way certain jumps had to be done were just a bit to much for a casual play...

  • @kad3t Oh I quite enjoyed blues Brothers.

What about BC Kid as well? That was enjoyable too.

  • @ScrewAttackEurope

I may just be to old for BB now. As in there's many games that I enjoyed and rocked at when I was younger but now seem to suck at them, badly. Like Mortal Kombat II for instance - I used to complete the game on my Amiga or at least get to the final battle 9 out of 10 tries. Now, if I manage to get trough 3 first battles I'm having a smashing day... ^__^

BCK was the one where you were jump and hit enemies with your forehead, right? Yeah, it was fun...

  • Rodland looks a bit gay, but the other games are cool

  • @lovedisshitrazzer

Thanks! However I dare you to play Rodland for more than 5 minutes and even more play it with a mate. I bet you'll be surprised. This game holds a lot of playability, especialy with a friend. Don't be mistaken by it's sugar coated manga-style japanese graphics it's up to par with any other arcade game.

  • oh yeah, bubba and stix. So random. Oscar was a pretty frustrating game if I remember. Shadow of the Beast 2 was better than 3 I reckon.

  • @Fugsy07

Indeed it was. Well, more fun to play at least. But SotB III was never & I wanted to keep it at one game per series if the game had more than one installment so there was enough space for more titles...

  • The one I'd want to include on the list would be Harlequin. One of the first platformers to really show imaginative, huge levels with plenty of neat touches, with a fearsome difficulty.

  • @madowl85

I never really played it. It looks interesting, judging from the pictures though...

  • cool man....i was lloking for that one game; fire and ice....very weird game...

  • You can find it at:

    p l a n e t e m u . n e t

    No spaces.

  • thanks mate, I got 'thegamearchives' as a source for my old amiga games... I just remembered the game but forgot the name so I searched for it and found your video .... CHEERS!!!!

  • Glad that I could help, even unknowingly. ^__^

  • I'm amazed at how dated the graphics look. Even the sprite art is much worse than we would expect today, but then the technology has improved by leaps and bounds since then and one has to remember these games came out in the 1980s when they would have looked astonishing.

  • Most games in this video actually comes from early to mid 90's... Funny enough I was browsing through my Amiga games collection some time ago & it seemed that 90 percent of games I owned were from between 1991 and 1994, just three years. And I'm talking about hundreads of games here...

  • Fire And Ide <3

    The Great Giana Sisters <3

  • The GGS was actually western response to Super Mario World (or a stolen idea if you prefer) and it was on sale for both C64 & Amiga for only few months as Nintendo sued the creators and they had to remove it from sales since it was nearly an exact copy of ideas, levels & mechanics of Mario. Some say it was superior to Mario, some don't... ^__^

  • Flashback, Shadow of the Beast and Turrican 2 were the best platformers I ever played in the Amiga.

The others were also great, especially Ricky Dangerous, very funny game.

Some of the platformers I played a lot and are not on that list:

    James Pond 2: Robocod.

    Switchblade 2

    Second Samurai

    Wiz and Liz

  • The first three never really caught my attention & I gotta be honest with you this is a sort of a personal list as only one person made it (me), so there was nobody there to argue their point with me - in other words it's hardly objective. ^__^ If I had somebody discussing those games with me before making videos my "20 of the best..." videos would probably be tad different. Anyway, I never heard of the last one I may need to look it up and play it for a bit...

  • Turrican 2 kicked the crap out of everything else on this video.

  • See, I'm one of them people that always wanted to play Turrican (1, 2 or 3) a lot but always sucked at it. And I mean sucked real bad. Same with Megaman for NES for that matter. Anyway, I wanna like this game a lot but I just can't compete at it even at the earliest levels... I don't know why... Maybe I'm getting old or it's just one of them games that I gotta learn to love for what they are and not for how I can play them. Because I can't. At all. ^__^

  • Sounds like a good challenge to me. I like games I can't play.

  • So do I... For about first 5 to 10 minutes. ^__^ Then I get annoyed and keep trying. After another 15 to 20 minutes I become angry & give my best at them... If I keep failing inspite of that I leave the game behind for a couple of days or weeks (or years) and repeat the process after a break. In case of Turrican it's been about 4 attempts over the course of about 15 years... And I haven't gotten any better (or worse for that matter) at it... ^__^

  • That's strange because I didn't find any of the Turrican games that difficult at all, and I typically don't play sidescrolling jumpers.

  • And I never mentioned that I wasn't crap at those games... Because in fact I am, I am crap at those kinds of games. Which is funny because I rock at Audiosurf & that requires some good reflexes also... Anyway, let's stick to & settle at me being crap. ^__^

  • Yep! When the games were simple... yet the gameplay was often so much better than these days is.

  • It used to be all bout game mechanics and mad timing. Now, I feel games are just a walk in the park.

  • I agree... I just can't seem to forget how diffucult it was to complete last level of Superfrog back then, but I've done it... It's basically impossible (for me) at the moment as I'm used to bit different games now.

  • The good ol' days!
