  • ged probably regrets ever singing this high after one of their shows nowadays lol Rush rocks!

  • HE SOUNDS MUCK BETTER ON TAMA DRUMS

  • Thumbs up for Geddy's elevated boots

  • man, alex's hair. man.

  • They played the song with so much power that at 4:18 it partially disabled the sound.

  • If only this was in colour

  • Fuckin love that solo!

  • i swear the first time i heard them i was like who is that girl singing and now im like Geddys got balls man

  • God damn, Geddy Lee's voice is unbelievably high, let me just say that.

Great video of a great song by a great band.

  • I wonder what the fuck was those letters and numbers (me 48) in the screen, cause I've seen in Boston videos, I've seen on a Spirit video and even in a early 70's Kraftwerk video... Does somebody know wth is this?

  • @LThunders I've uploaded the watermark free version on my channel.

  • THREE FUckIN talented SOBs

  • A clean copy of this performance (just this song, not the whole show) will be on the new Time Machine tour dvd this fall for those who don't know yet. Also, Need Some Love from that 1974 Laura Secord show with Rutsey first seen in Beyond the Lighted Stage will be on it, both as extras. Hopefully someday they'll release the whole shows.

  • Christ, Geddy's vocals in this are insane... As a younger fan, I'm so jealous at anyone who saw Rush at this performance; the band was starting to become damn near untouchable as musicians at this point, and they still are today

  • Rush is just simply amazing...no, beyond amazing...

  • I like the solo all 3 of them wer playing from 0:00 to 4:35 :)

  • I love the Geddy Lee death growl during

    "WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!"

And by growl I mean very gravelly and still high pitched singing. Due to Geddyness

  • @abstract37 Geddy Lee can sing death metal without even trying! :P

  • I hope Howard Roark listens to this.

  • dude listen to neil 3.20-3.30 and you'll get a glimpse of his greatness

  • Whoever dislikes this video will undergo through a series of events which will culminate on a horrible and painful death as well as their entire future generations.

  • WOW! Great video with surprisingly good sound. They always seem to have fun and always rock out! Thank you kev5655, this was the perfect way to start the day.

  • DELIGHTED to see this followed Rush since 1978.

  • oh dear lord, that's good!

  • Ahhh, the good old days back when Geddy could wail, not like they suck now though. Love this song. RUSH!!!

  • @crimsoncarcas You Have Got to BE KIDDING ME. I like ABBA But They don't belong in the parkinglot of the Rock HGall o Fame =(

  • I remember seein these guys in Toledo Ohio in 1977 and they did The All the Worlds a Stage concert then. I wish they would do that concert again with JUST those songs from that time. It was my first concert. But at the risk of pissing anyone off I wont say how much I hate that Stupid Ass Tom Sawyer song.. I don't know why But I HATE It . As a matter of fact I don't care too much for anything after A FArewell to Kings!! Sorry!!

  • @joetubealong I can understand where you are coming from with the 80s + stuff (I love every rush album though, 70s my fav stuff then 80s then the rest) , but to make a statement like that you clearly have not listened to hemispheres.

  • @joetubealong There are a few I've come across who stopped liking Rush after a Farewell to Kings but try listening to some of their later stuff. I've been a fan since 1978 after hearing By Tor and the Snow Dog and IMHO the later stuff is just as good but different. Cheers-Peter.

  • I would love to see Disturbed do a cover of this!

  • @MitcheruUSA62 I wouldn't.

  • It's totally cool to see and hear this video - an actual LIVE performance. The other color version via in the TV studio is dubbed audio. Great Stuff - one of their best tunes !

  • hey Geddy, can you put a little more passion in your singing please?

  • such a powerful guitar!!

  • Geddy Lee also "played piano" on some parts by stepping on a pad with the notes or keys he needed to play

  • I hate people who bash on Geddy for not being able to sing like this anymore. But C'mon people, that was almost 40 years ago! Obviously his voice is going to be different. GEDDY LEE STILL KICKS ASS!

    P.s. RUSh EH! >:D

  • @Zoso62509 OF COURSE I AGREE, AND THAT STUPID PEOPLE SAY THAT BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW A FUCKING SHIT ABOUT SINGING

  • HaHa, Geddy forgot the last verse and improv ed over it Btw, where did you find this video, it is such great quality

  • @MrMusicman456 Where did he do any improv? Sounds to me like what he sang on the actual recording.

  • @sbrushfan I think that it was the last verse

  • HaHa, Geddy forgot the last verse and improv ed over it

  • Geddy Lee is one of the most sickest bassists I know of. But why is he wearing heels?

  • @Vedartham

    two words: The Seventies

  • @Vedartham

Who the F... cares what he is wearing?

  • @Vedartham he his one of the sickest bassists and singers too.i mean, how can anyone sound that high in a young age like that like getty lee did back then?too bad he dont sound that high today.he was good.

  • @Vedartham It's kinda cool.

  • Check out Neil peart's crazy hair!!! Cool 70's rush hair. Rush, Led Zeppelin, U2, Van halen, and def leppard are my favorite bands

  • This is from the little known ME-48 album... SO awesome!

  • damn right theres no dislikes and thats how its should stay

  • thanks for posting this video. i've never seen this one before. excellent quality.

    alex

  • THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST LIVE JAM SESSION"EVER"!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin

I never can get enough of Anthem.

  • As a Canadian I think this should be Canada's National 'Anthem'.

  • @onthemoveagain I'm American but agree with you totally as this is one of my favorites by them. Were neighbors,Rock on friend!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin

Maybe this should be the 'anthem' of the U.S.A. too-I think Rock music is all about uniting people-let's make it the 'anthem' for the UK too!!

  • @onthemoveagain How about being an "ANTHEM" the WORLD over.

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin

    I agree!

  • @issa9 omfg i live in montreal... DAMN i really wish i could have met him AAWWW man im jealous too!!!!!!!

  • in a world full of cynics, haters, and other miscellaneous assholes, it's comforting to know that no one dislikes this video :)

  • @mistercrowleyjr Who, in their right mind, is gonna hate on Rush? Rush are like, THE GROUP to see in concert and listen to on disc. I'm of the belief that EVERYONE should have their records. ALL OF THEM.

  • @sbrushfan exactly. one christmas i got 200$ in itunes cards and every dollar went toward rush albums. only need a few more comps and my collection is complete \m/

  • Geddy Lee was in Montreal 2 days ago, my friend saw him and got his autograph in a Java U Cafe, I am really jealous now.

  • thanks for reposting still love you alix

  • Alex is very underated guitar player in rock history he is in my top 5 all time

  • All the worlds a stage was a really great live album.early gritty rush will aways rule.up to permanent waves. 5 times in concert i guess was enough. 2112 will always be my pick.

  • fck the Rock N Roll hall of fame, Homo Jovi nominated? GTFO, its all bs! It could have been a true Rock and Roll institution but its become something RUSH should never be a part of.

  • @stereoevil Metallica put in a word for them after beeing inducted, they said we would like to the hall of fame to induct the following: Iron Maiden, Rush, Motorhead, Judas Priest but hey like you said fags like Bon Jovi are in there to I fucking hate Bon Jovi.

  • I would say 1976 was there best year. after going through almost every video of rush on youtube, I would say that all of their 1976 live performances were just amazing. I saw them this year, and they were great! but not this great...

  • The should be in the Hall of Fame just for this song alone!

  • Who gives a sh*t about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (rhetorical). Seriously? The very idea of a "hall of fame" for counter culture music, such as rock, is in itself absurd. I doubt Rush gives a damn, either. They don't need some ivory tower institution to them that they're kick ass, quad-platinum selling, musical and songwriting virtuosos. That's what they have us (the fans) for.

  • its was great defending a band like Rush over the years to idiots. then time moves on and technology progresses and i get to see stuff like this that i've never seen before on the internets. And when i see stuff like this it makes me think that i reallyu knew what the hell i was talkin about.

  • anybody notice how neil peart looks like micheal giles?

  • @MrRush1974 The Rock n' roll is a joke, so don't sweat to much about it.

  • as an additive comment to you MrRush1974 The band is in the hall of fame at once but the only thing that I can say is 'bout time

  • was this put on DVD?!?!?!

you can tell there is no bass drum heads

    read the book "Visions"

  • This made my day.

  • alex lifeson = greatest guitar player ever PERIOD!!!

  • What the Hell is ME-48, Looks a military training video =L

  • GEDDY MADE ME BUST A NUT AND IM NOT EVEN EMBARRASSED TO SAY THAT =O

  • Rush needs to bring back there old instruments cuz they sound so awesome :(

  • I used to feel the same,, RUSH should be in the Hall, But with the recent additions to the hall of Shame,*rapp/hiphop* crap thats in,, i feel RUSH is just to good for the hall,, so i hope they never make it, and RUSH is my all time favorite band ever

  • @tutoch Amen brother. Since when is LL Cool J a rock artist? And since when does crap like that make it in the Rock n' Roll HOF? I would actually be insulted if RUSH or any band of their caliber made it into the RnR HOF.

    Long live RUSH!!!

  • good people watching this no haters...then again is it possible to hate rush :)

  • Geddys vocals are spot on eh?

  • My BIG Four are Rush, Metallica, Black Sabbath w/Ozzy, and Maiden!

  • @Satonica Well, THAT was lame now that I look at it. Scratch Maiden and put in Zeppelin/the Floyd with equal billing. LoL!

  • epic mustache by peart

  • What a great band. The lyrics, the tallent. I saw them live twice in the eighties in Atlanta at the Omni. Seen some pretty good shows. None was better than Rush.

  • Outstanding! Thanks for posting. Takes me back to good times.

  • fantastic

  • This is the best version of their greatest song ever...

  • RUSH!!! Best Canadian band ever!!!

  • 0:01 FAR OUT!!

  • EXELENTE CANCION!!!!!!!!!!

  • Absolutely!!

  • Man. I remember looking up to these guys thinking, "Someday, I'll be able to write and play like that".

Well... Now I'm like twenty years older then they were when I said that.

    Still waiting on that someday...

  • geddys voice is amazing here

  • I had a buddy in college who used to hang out in my room.

He hated that all I listened to was Rush. I told him too bad. If he did not like it he could go back to his room in the basement next to the boiler room.

He sat there and listened to the music.

He is now a huge Rush fan!

  • good deed

  • did he thank you?

  • @Canes5Rings

Haha, that's badass. Im a diehard Rush nerd, but every time a knew about comes out, I sorta have to the songs Im not crazy about to grow on me, I love Vapor Trails now, but at first I sorta felt I had sit sit through half of the songs on it.

  • GEDDY: the voice of a beautiful witch escapes from your mouth to throw me into madness, and I ask: Who really are you? Where you come from only exist the elected by the magic of the universe.

    Thank for yuorself!

  • hilarious comment

  • Geddy always had a voice a person either loved or hated.

No middle ground what so ever!

Those that didn't care for his voice and shunned the band missed one of the most innovative, dynamic bands to date - bar none !!

  • Agreed alot of people tell me the greatest rock and roll bands after the 70s were Zeppelin, Sabbath, AC/DC. For some Reason I always add Rush to that assumption, they are the most innovative (like you said) and entertaining bands to watc/listen/enjoy.

  • F'n love it when Geddy got into like that, step back and Jam with Neil as all good rythym sections do. Yet Neil would still drum with the melody too, no talent there eh?

  • Back when Geddy Lee's voice was at its best!

  • WOW .....how can anyone beat RUSH

  • i like the guy at the beginning saying "far out" lol....

  • i thinks its neil peart saying "fly by night"

  • top that zeppelin

  • Alex is right with Jimmy on By-Tor . . .

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhh....

  • That was the opening number for the "Tour of the Hemispheres" Nov 1978 Seattle Coliseum. What a show! Pat Travers opened the tour. Rush still are professional in 2009.

  • I was lucky enough to see Rush during this period and meet them. Saw them on Snakes and Arrows, still love these guys but damn when they were hungry this was just untouchable stuff...

  • Quality rock from the beginning until the present. Rush has never let us down.

  • Awesome

  • 8888 view's...I think that's 'The Number of the RUSH!' or the year everyone will dress like that!

  • Alex RULES.

  • I would like to know where you even got this footage. It is amazing.

  • dry mix thru the moniters

  • Gods of Rock

  • AMAZING!!!

  • The sounds is better than on the Atwas album, this version kick ass.

  • 2112 Tour !!!

  • I love these classic Rush clips!

  • MOST TALENTED BAND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow the sound of ZEP is prominent here,

you can tell they were just trying to find they're feet here!!!,

only to become EVEN GREATER THE

    led zeppelin..

  • Badass Canucks!

  • Geddy is so cute and hot at the same time

  • great song great video we need a complete show in color from 76

  • no doubt

  • wow.. alex NAILED that solo, holy crap, that was perfect

  • @MrRush1974 Every time I see someone write this, I reply. I don't think Rush should be in RNR Hall. Have you seen the bands in that shithole? They don't deserve Rush and their talented musicians. Madonna? RUN DMC? Give me a break. As Lifeson said, "It's a joke." Rolling Stone Magazine ought to be ashamed of themselves. They hate Rush for "doing it on their own." No commercialism, air play. Just kick Rock and Great Fans. Fuckem.

  • @Markcip1 I agree with you, even Metallica last year said when they were inducted that they wanted to name some bands that deserve to be in the RnR HOF, Metallica mentioned Rush in that speach, and with reason, Rush helped inspire Metallica and other great bands, they are the gods of progresive rock. Rush rocks dude.

  • @MrRush1974 -- Don't you mean Rock & Roll Hall of Shame?? They don't deserve Rush OR Metallica.

  • @Satonica No, Metallica needs it. They're massive sellouts and whiny brats.

  • @MrRush1974 The RRHOF is a joke. ;D

  • @MrRush1974 would u want a band like Rush in a club that has people like RUN DMC or MJ or madonna in it? no...in fact...Its a disgrace to be in the RnR hall of fame...sadly

  • @PeeceSells So true

  • @MrRush1974 yah..the dude who runs the HOF hates rush..which means all the selection have to go through him..which makes the HOF biased and non-valued

  • @MrRush1974 I just kinda find it fun now. Madonna is in. So why should we care about that joke of an institution?

  • @killalavilla Here Here

  • @MrRush1974 they are in the canadian hall of fame.

  • @MrRush1974 why would rush ever be grouped with madonna and patti smithe

  • @ThePiperPunk How true. Rush is To good for the R&R hall of fame.

  • I gotta admit i cant get enough of Geddy's 70s vocal!

  • @scarfacedan09 For sure man. It was the best it ever was. All downhill from there.

  • I love this song, this band, and this video. Especially the hardcore old vocals.

  • :40 Now Alex do not pick scratch DO NOT PICK SCRATCH!....AHH DAMNIT....COME ON!

  • why? pick scratching's badass!

  • joke

  • id just thought it would be funny if thats what geddy was saying

  • Oh hahahaha I see.

  • That would be funny!

  • Is there a version of this show in color? It there is, get it onto DVD like yesterday. This show would sell, sell, and sell! AWESOME!

  • Wow this is amazing . Listen to Geddys voice. Unbelievable.

  • Early Peart videos rule!

  • lol :42

  • fuckin awesome. i saw the hemispheres tour which i blieve was the one after this. all the worlds a stage was the first time i heard Rush. still my favorite

  • This is 1976, 1977 saw the Farewell to Kings tour after which came Hemispheres (1978 -79)

  • i stand corrected

  • I have the same pair of high heels that geddy is wareing.

  • This is awesome, lol geddy lee invented the screamo style lol

  • O.o

  • My favorite vocal performance of the song

  • Greetings and thanks to kev5655 for posting this beautiful , genuine and extremely rare video ... I just want to say that this song shows any person who doubts RUSH's members excellence what gifted musicians they are . Peart's drumming is like the drumming of ten men together , Geddy's complex lines and voice are shredders on their own and Alex's work ? what can I say his best throughout his career .

  • Far Out

  • its funny how many times neil drops time and loses count.

before geddy starts singing i counted 40 times
