Tak Kubota is hard to describe in words. I studied under Jim Mather, now a 9th degree Black Belt trained by Tak Kubota.
In the 70's our higher ranking Black Belts (not me) trained with Kubota. When I asked how it was to kumite (spar) with the Master the common response was "it hurts when he hits you and it hurts you when you hit him.
What I found amazing about the man was I stopped by the dojo at noon during the week. Kubota was there early preparing to teach the class.
@robertkmerrill my dad trained under Kubota in 70s,when I was about 13-14 i had the chance to go wrestle around on matts with Kubota; being a kid and seeing a senior citizen I was skeptical of his force, but quickly learned this senior citizen was no joke and although he was just toying with me coming into contact with any part of this man was like coming into contact with concrete. My dad always told me that you don't want to hit him because you hurt your hand more than you hurt him
Kubota has acknowleged the influence of shotokan upon gosoku-ryu. He said in an interview some 25 years ago that he liked shotokan's strong, focused techniques, but wanted his system to be more flexible. His words, as far as I can recall them, were these: "Shotokan is a little too stiff" --

They say there's always a tougher guy waiting around the next corner - around the last corner waits Soke Kubota.
And after u passed that guy with a shotgun and instantly get killed by Chuck Norris.
