seen 1 like that at a swap meet ,smallest of the 2 ! he has 1 that is larger and longer with a handle on the End of the Bar! looks like a red wood Tree saw ! has to be a 4ft bar.or more!
Looks a bit like the first power saw I ever ran: C90 Homelite. It was direct drive gear driven and had the same half pitch chain and had the same beaver tail bar. Half pitch is .500 as opposed to the .375 common today
That ol saw is in good shape! Ya cant go wrong for $12. I would sure hate to have to use that thing all day, what a beast of a saw! Boy, they sure dont make em like they used to!
Chainsaw on steroids!!! LOL I love the old stuff.. I had a David Bradley roto tiller back sometime ago. I wish I had kept it but..........LIve and learn but I can't keep all the toys I guess..Thanks for posting.. I don't know why I have never seen this video. Take care.
@1963impala2dr Yea, I used to dream about takin' that ol' David Bradley motor and puttin' it on my go cart. hahahahaha. Man that would have made her sing!. ahah
from my own experience with ancient motors and cars i'd say that saw is circa 1945-early 50s. if you really want to know ask radougan120955 [thechainsawguy] hes seen them all
My dad has an old David Bradley chainsaw he inherited from his father. As I recall from my childhood, it was heavy, it didn't rev as high as todays saws, but it had a lot of torque, and it was built like a tank. That was in the 1970's and he still uses it today. Thank you for the terrific video.
what makes old saws better then new?? biggest reason you can actually work on it with out having to go to computer engineering collage forever.. #2 gear driven... no clutches to burn out half way threw a cut #3 metal construction... no clastic crap... plus... great for building muscles lol.. love to old iron lung motors. simple strong and reliable... unlike today where its all junk.
@mrfirewolf yep you gotta watch out for that clastic crap lol j.k.! yep, I have about 10 or so Saws that were built in the first few years of the 1990s. which is fairly recent for a guy my age ! still, due to the emissions control etc on the new ones.. to get one with the same power as mine.. they weigh way more.. plus todays saws wont even come close to revving as high as my old ones. I can go to the tool box and grab any chain, pull cord or spark plug and it'll fit every saw I own. its nice!
Sure enjoyed that video. You remind me of my Father in law who passed away! I miss him so much. I have his 1956 Briggs and stratton that he cut 9 cords of wood for in payment..
OOOOssshhh!!!! I bet you put that old girl on a log she would make quick work of it. What a nice find and I am glad you got it. Sounds like your pretty glad too !!!!!
@1963impala2dr Wall art is great but keep her running don't let her rust up on the wall make it an running wall art take her down and show people it works too :D
That a .404 chain, thats all they had in those days, now they have 3/8 pitch to save weight, but you can still get .404 for cutting hard wood and big timber
Too bad Sears sells you Poulan now.I have an old Homelite Zip.A buddy of mine got the drawstring from his shorts caught in the flywheel and it about yanked his shorts right off.But that old Homelite starts on the first pull, and if you're quick, you can catch the choke and keep it running.Still cuts great.Slow, but great.
ive got some older saws nowhere near as old as that mind you....i have 4 old Partners that i think range from the early to late 70's. 2 of them are used for parts but 2 of them actually run.I got 1 for free from my grandpa and the other 3 for 40 dollars. the 2 that run are a 50(?) and a 65 and i have a 50 and 70 in pieces. Man do these saws ever cut and TOUGH ...even leaned right out when tuning them with no clue and fooling with them as a kid I never blew a piston...and i was rough on them!!!
Had one just like-it, another happenstance yardsale find (about $50 IIRC) prominently labeled Craftsman, excellant blue-paint (probably original). Made a helluva bucking-saw. Both it and my Stihl 036 were stolen one day long ago.
I have a lombard about that size gear driven also it needs a carb rebuild and it should start no idea where to locate parts if anyone has any idea i would really appreciate it thanks
yeah.. its probably pretty rich.. 32:1 sounds bout right. my Husqy's run 50:1. I have about 6 pairs of chaps.. and if I was gonna run that old beast.. I'd wear em ALL!
oh.. she's pretty much retired now.. just a wall hanger. I only wanted to see if it would start and run.. it did. dont think I'll lug it around and try and cut anything with it.
WoW, that thing reminds me of an old Mall thats been floating around in my dads shop for the last 40+ years. I might get that thing and fool with it one day this winter, also he's got an old remington that i remember using as a kid, started it about 5 years ago and thats the loudest thing i have heard in a long time , NO mufler just a short flare of pipe to direct the exshaust away.
well. they are not my addiction(i have plenty of others!) but I have 8 husky's that I use in my business.. just couldnt pass up that old girl at a yard sale price!
yea, i love em...im more of a old mac fan, but i collect many others. you got a great deal on that one to. i use old macs for my step-fathers company, hes a diehard husky fan, lots of heckling on the lot! i pull out my 74 mac 850, 28in for the logs his huskys wont take...he hates it!
