@67tr876 some years back the hardware stores in this area actually sold a device that plugged in the wall that would lower the voltage to about 105 from 120. it was being advertised as saving money. they claimed that lowering voltage would cause motors to run cooler (dont make sense to me) but for incandescent lighting i can see this working.(remember undervoltage can cause damage to some motors and devices. generally acceptable drop should not exceed 10% raqted voltage. (industry standard)
@GoldfingerRedline We lived in japan for a time (dad was in the service) and US 120 volt light bulbs last forever on their 100 volts. On the other hand Japanese 100 volt bulbs last a few days at most on 120 volts.
few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didnt want that happening to me

Now that's what I call a flashbulb.

ever blow a fuse? same thing. what did you think was gonna happen?
joshcrosson 4 months ago
@joshcrosson it was going to blow, but it is a deminstration because not everybody knows what will happen.

Not really high voltage .. more like overvoltage.
stephanosanio 10 months ago
Very cool. If you don't mind me asking, what did you use to double the voltage?

i want to see if it can run on 120 DC .

@67tr876: All incandescent lamps can run on either AC or DC voltage, that the cool thing about them, they're more flexible than CFLs.

You can run two bulbs in series with 220. Also if you have a DC drive you can hook 6 bulbs up in series to see if the 700 volt dc is working!

Where did you get the socket.

valu or home depot.

LOL This made me laugh for some reason
gezzaky 2 years ago
If you put it on a dimmer and slowly put it up to 220, it might actually work at 220.
TheGeek1028 2 years ago
maybe.

Bulb life is inversely proportional to the voltage difference, to the 13th power! You might get a few minutes if you are lucky.

where to get double volts from 110 to 220
bestamerica 2 years ago
What if you double the voltage but lower the amps keeping it at the same wattage?
cheeezy 2 years ago
cutting the amperage will cause a voltage drop hence you are no longer at 240 but rather 120 where it belongs.
kwacz 2 years ago
Don't all bulbs work at 115 or 230, they all have the same fitting.
The amps must have been the same when going form 115 to 230.
slaterking1000 2 years ago
no, the bulb is rated for a specific voltage just like any other piece of equipment
kwacz 2 years ago
but a filament is just a filament, amperage determines it;s thickness.
slaterking1000 2 years ago
Double the wattage, double the thickness.
Double the voltage, double it again.
Take a clear 60 w and a clear 25w and tell me they're not the same.
TheGeek1028 2 years ago
I said that, amperage changes wattage. Voltage will not have a factor on thickness.
slaterking1000 2 years ago
lol it farted!!! =-))

Nice, that scared me too.
chrischris349 2 years ago
That would never have happened with an european bulb, as they run on 230V.
McGuywer 2 years ago
i did that but with like 10 batteries and a small light bold and it blew up

but i like playing with high voltage.
