Don't forget the Pistols, Chelsea, Menace, Anti-Nowhere League, Vibrators, Angelic Upstarts, Generation X and ...well ...not to say these aren't good selections.
The Models "Freeze" might be THE best punk song of that era.
@jenssalumae2 ahh than yes you are correct about the 70s im just sayin there is (well mostly was) a lot of punk in the U.S. too later on, although i will say thank god for the british punk scene because it did start/inspire alot of great music... (plus you where talkin about the offspring and blink which is definatly later than the 70s)
@0deefreak Pop music is a genre. Originally referring to the "popular" music of the time, when it hits a certain number of listens a song doesn't magically change genre. Oh, and cheers for the 20,000 views everyone.

@misfitsfan28 yeah....right....but their song,lyric,performance?...maybe mick a bit annoying on vocal but i cant picture anyone sing stay free rather than mick..........brit punk rules.....
I don't think I could pick a top 5. I mean, clash, pistols, sham, cockney rejects, snuff (even though they were 80's), uk subs, damned... I could make a 100+ list :P
lol im 17 now, never heard of this kind of music before, cause yeah, i grow up with hardstyle and techno and all that stuff, this is something different, wich i like :P probaly be one of few of my age who like this :s
@misfitsfan28 your such a arrogant fag you know, talking like im not good enough for your precious music, well go to hell and keep living in the past bitch
@jenssalumae2 Sorry, perfesser, I must've missed your syllabus. My reaction was to what looked like a blanket statement: "America had no punk scene at all." Ok, you're only talking about the 70's... but then I don't get why almost a third of the bands on your profile is made up of US punk bands from the 70s. But anyway, keep the faith, and great collection of tunes.
@jenssalumae2 no, i actually am 13, but i was on a computer with an odd keyboard when i wrote those and i dont really look back at what ive wrote so i accidently put 15 instead of 13, anyway, if i WAS a peado (which im not) Why would i be looking at these videos and commenting. If you dont beleive me feel free to look at my facebook or whatever... So yeah, dont believe me if uou dont want to but i cant prove it any more than that.
@fuckyouruglyface88 Punk is British derived, he's right. I mean, we DID have SOME punk in America. But in comparison, We had hardly any. OUR punk came After theirs. I like it all the same though :l
Man, all this bullshit music today. I wish I lived at this time. I'm fukkin 12 and none of this music is popular with people my age. It sucks. I listen to The Clash and Blink-182 and The Offspring, and all they listen to is the same song remixed 5 million times over then auto tuned.
@caschdc9ejvwhecuihvo but you're from America, which had no punk scene at all. Sure, there was a small LA scene but it was miniscule. Oh, and Blink-182 and the Offspring are mainstream shit too.
@jenssalumae2 yeah i'm with ya'. the offstpring and blink-182 are mainstream. i'd listen to anything containing an electric guitar from 60's, 70's, 80's, early 90's. 1995 true rock music died and that fucking mainstream shit came.
@jenssalumae2 what about.... misfits (b4 danzig left) - ramones - dead kennedys - if you ask me the usa had some of the best punk bands (i said some of the best) there was a huge punk scene in the usa - actually some people might argue that they invented punk - two different punk scenes going on - i remember it well - and i live in ireland (SLF all the way)
@jenssalumae2 America had a thriving "hardcore" scene in the early/mid 80s. Not surprised you haven't heard of the bands or know the scenes existed. But anyone who was there can rattle off band after band. By the time I was in it (mid 80s), the scene was becoming more thrash, and my interest lied more with the 2nd wave English punk bands. American bands like Minor Threat, The F.U.s, Jerry's Kids, early DRI, S.O.A., (DC's) Youth Brigade were great.
@jenssalumae2 liar !!! NYC AND CHI TOWN AND JUST ABOUT EVERY CITY HAD A PUNK SCENE_UNDERGROUND AND U WEREn"T DER! NEITHER WAS YER INSTANT ACCESS INTERNET! I AM YER DAD!
@jenssalumae2 I wouldn't say America "had no punk scene at all". The Stooges, Lou Reed, The Ramones, Patti Smith, The Modern Lovers, The New York Dolls, Black Flag, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, the whole CBGB scene, the Dickies, X and the California scene. Now granted American punk was different from British punk, but to say there was none at all is just wrong. Been sniffin' too much glue?
@jenssalumae2 naa man in America sure there wasnt a huge punk scene but it was there especially if you count 90s "grunge" as punk (cause essentially bands like Nirvana are punk). Plus all the underground bands... Oh and the Offspring USED to be a GREAT punk band just check out their self titled album or ignition
@ducktapebandofficial God I love Grunge. And Nirvana I just about died when I saw the EMP's Nirvana section (Its a music/movie arts museum in Seattle....)
@jenssalumae2 did you say america had no punk scene? Never heard of Black Flag? Circle Jerks? Bad Brains? are you nuts? I promise you, america had a more brutal punk scene. Don't believe me still? Check out the Boston, New York and D.C hardcore scenes. sXe even came from the american scene. Please get your music history checked
@caschdc9ejvwhecuihvo Fucking hell me to!! ive just turned 13 and NONE of my friends are into the clash or blink 182 or boomtown rats or cockney regects or the jam, i mean, punk and mod mysic is fucking amazing, i hate all the shite music today like the black eyed peas and shit :@
@caschdc9ejvwhecuihvo get use to it ! punk rockers are always outsiders! ALWAYS!!! nothing pop to see here? fuckem! KEEP ROCKIN" KIDDO! carry the torch! I need to drink a beer and got tired, fired, and rehired! I'M BACK ! had to do this lil thang with dis water buffalo GIMME THE TORCH FUCKER! KEEP GOIN!
@caschdc9ejvwhecuihvo im 17 and from ohio man. i wish we did have a punk scene. but the truth is, you dont gotta look punk to be punk. us american kids gotta make a scene with few non hollister prep faggots we know.
and consider this was before the whole HARDCORE DIY scene...nobody had their own labels, so you had to get signed by someone to make music, and the great thing about the Pistols was Steve Jones stole all their equipment from larger, well known bands, like the New York Dolls, and supposedly Bowie. They started at the bottom and worked themselves up to the point where somaeon wanted to sign them. Imagine trying to do that back before punk was a common style of music. I wouldn't say they sold out.
the pistols weren't all about the cash, they just couldn't hold a label because everyone was afraid to have them signed due to liabilities, and A&M cut them after only like a few days cuz of the aftersigning party, and due to contract obligations, had to pay the pistols in full. EMI cut them due to the song God Save The Queen, and the publicity it created...I think if any punk band pushed the limits, it was the Pistols. They were being manipulated by a leech manager, you gotta keep that in mind.
Good choice, loved punk as a teenager, still love it today. Would have had a diff list for a top 5 though. Def would have inc:Damned, would have chosen a Pistols song, maybe Holidays in the Sun,Pretty Vacant.Would have had a Buzzcocks song, prob,Ever fallen in love? or Orgasm Addict, would have had diff Sham69 song: Angels with dirty faces,or Hersham Boys, like Cockney Rejects, but would"nt put them in a top 10? punk list. Good vid though, enjoyed it.
I absolutely agree with 1-3 although I would pick a different Sham 69 tune (Hurry up Harry, or If The Kids are United), I've never heard of #4 or 5, but then I stopped listening to punk regularly in 1978, and I am an American. Since I have started listening again, I would add a Ruts song, possibly "In a Rut", and I would definitely have a Buzzcocks tune in my top 5, "Boredom" or even the post Devoto, "What do I get?" I love thinking about this stuff over 30 years on...
