UNGUREANU was not in the team in 79 worlds, she retired after 79 university games in May, and after Karolis come back as national coaches they dind't want any gymnasts who were training in Bucharest but Nadia
i hate how they completely changed her beam routine. she was able to do the routine with a bad wrist infection because she mostly did aerials on the beam. the only time she put pressure on that wrist was during her round-off into her dismount.
Wow... this is the first time that I watch a movie without subtitle... that makes happy! :)
I really liked the movie, some years ago my uncle talked about Nadia and he said that she was (is) a girl that made history in the Olimpic Games, she's (was) a gymnast and somethings like that... Today, I watched the video of PERFECT 10... and began to read her biography... and had the chance to watch this excellent movie... 1 of my favorites from now on!
Nadia was my hero growing up and I still think Bela is probably the greatest coach there ever was or possibly ever will be. The film is about teaching as much as it is gymnastics. Bela had to learn how to teach Nadia and she had to learn to be independent. And both grew because of the other. I think Nadia was the greatest gymnast ever. But much of that is owed to Bela and Marta's brilliance as teachers. The quality of talent he has produced since Nadia is staggering, and shows his ability.
What is the name of the song that starts on 4.20? i'm sure it was used before in the movie, but i'm fascinated with it. Can someone please give me the name of the song?
yeah this beam routine is a lot different than her original one. in the original one her aerials mostly consisted of back tucks & the likes so she didnt have to use her wrist that much. but still pretty impressive for competing on an infected wrist!!
The heavy judge looks so well-composed and ladylike I can see why she only looked "familiar." (smile) Typically, she plays a wisecracking funnywoman. I believe she currently has a guest-starring role on Two and Half Men.
James Torvill and Christopher Dean Got a Perfect Ten For Their Ice Skating Routine The Bolero. That's The Only Other Sport In Which I Know A Perfect Grade Has Been Achieved. :)
You're right ! Torvill and Dean's free program at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, performed to the music of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, became world famous. They received nine 6.0 marks for artistic impression,(three more for technical merit for a total of twelve 6.0 marks) the highest possible score and the only time ever that an all-perfect score was achieved. BRAVO !! : )
Sonething I've always wondered--do you suppose that conversation really happened, where Nadia wonders out loud how it might have all been different if Karolyi had chosen Teodora instead as the one to perform in that Paris exhibition in '74?
@BondGirl29 Read Nadia's autobiography written in 1982. She was upset over a boyfriend but she didn't really attempt suicide. She mixed the bleach cup that looked like the coffee mug and drank out ot the wrong cup. She vomited it up actually. She drank milk induce the vomiting. No ambulance ever came to get her as in this film. She did burn her mouth from it of course.
@BondGirl29@BondGirl29 She didn't try to kill herself in the movie. She mistook the cup of cleaner with the cup of juice that she got out of the hallway and set down right next to the cup of cleaner that she poured prior to going into the hallway.
Typical whatever country you are from. Not paying attention to a movie, and then blaming your own ineptitude on America.
@BondGirl29 she did drink bleach but supposedly it was an accident, not a suicide attempt. she says so in her book. ill take her at her word, but i have a hard time understanding how someone can accidentally drink bleach. i mean, wouldnt she taste and smell it??
@BondGirl29 Aw, come on now! You know all the liars are in Hollywood, D.C., large corporation exec boards, and megachurch pulpits. It's not ALL of us! Sorry, couldn't help myself. :)
This is disappointing. I had almost completely forgotten about this movie but recently remembered it when a reference was made to Nadia in the Olympics. I used to think this was a great movie to be taken seriously as a little girl. It was soooo good and inspiring in my eyes and now it seems so corny. I can't believe it.
I can just picture Bela and Marta shitting bricks when they watched this.

It's perfect 6's in figure skating -- at least it was under the old judging system -- not 10's as it is in gymnastics
