Out of all the lorry loads of adaptions of A Christmas Carol (I might have seen at least 10 adaptions and read THE book), this one remains the favorite of mine.
@keialexiswindsong Yes. Essentially all incidental or background characters in this short are characters from Disney productions made during the 40's.
It's funny how many things you don't understand as a child, and now watching this as an adult it's so different. I find myself laughing at Scrooge talking about compound interest. . . and at 7:04:
Jacob: "Remember when I was alive, I robbed the widows and swindled the poor."
Scrooge: "Yes, all in the same day. Oh, you had class, Jacob!"
I find it funny how, as we grew up on these cartoons, we would complain about them being too kid-friendly and childish to openly enjoy. And how, now today, we display nostalgia about them as lost gems we all took for granted.
I like the expression on Mickey's face when Scrooge throws the bag of laundry at him and when he says "Yes, sir" from behind the bag. Something about Mickey's ability to act without missing a beat makes me smile all the time.
@LisaMarie216 Can't see why they chose Goofy to be the other greedy person though (Jacob Marley):S Normally he is very kind and loving;; Maybe they should have chosen Flintheart Glomgold? Besides from that I agree with you:D
Yea I know. I kinda wish they choose someone else to play Marley. Scrooge makes a perfect. . .well...Scrooge. But where would they have put Goofy then if not in the role of Marley? That would be my question? But yea...I do agree.
@wingweaver84 Like Scrooge McDuck, Flintheart Glomgold was originally created by Carl Barks for the Disney comic books. He's been around since the mid-50's.
I don't get how Goofy got assigned the role of Jacob Marley. I can't see him being as ruthless and greedy as Scrooge Mcduck. His voice is quite creepy though. First I was spooked out when the door knocker called Scroooooge! Then, Scrooge turned white when Goofy said, "I'm doomed, and the same thing will happen to you Ebeenezer Scrooge!" Also why would Scrooge's chains be heavier than Marley's if he doesn't repent?
I don't get how Goofy got assigned the role of Jacob Marley. It's hard to imagine Goofy being as ruthless and greedy as Scrooge Mcduck. Although his voice is creepy. Yes, Scrooge's English voice acting usually does have a Scottish accent, as far as I know. But then, I suppose it would be kind of hard for a Dutch voice actor to put up a Scottish accent. =P
This is the exact airing that we taped when I was a child. It has been soo many years since I have seen it I thought it was lost forever. Thank you soo much.
I thought the new christmas carol was very good. these 2 movies can't be compared to each other. the classic disney christmas carol is a treasure, but the new christmas carol touched me just as much as the old disney cartoon version.
I agree wholeheartedly. Just because they are the same story and done by Disney doesn't mean they can be compared. I love both versions for completely different reasons
Two works of art, especially two that are sourced from the same piece of popular literature, can ALWAYS be compared to one another. You don't have to agree with observations made from these comparisons, but it's ridiculous to reject them outright.
Personally, hand-drawn animation is more compelling to me than the dead eyed, 3D meat puppet mocap stuff Robert Zemeckis is obsessed with these days, which I wouldn't really classify as animation in the traditional sense at all.
This movies 20 years old I love this movie so much I grew up with it I never saw the whole special just the movie ittself I had it on VHS does anybody know if its out on DVD I would really like to buy it
They should've run this version of "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (with those two cartoons earlier) on ABC Family this year. Then they would've been able to show the full special instead of butchering it by cutting out several pieces of dialogue.
Yeah, that's probably what they were making us do. Unfortunately, ABC Family did even worse editing to "Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too", which doesn't even HAVE an official DVD release (unless you count its slightly changed inclusion on "A Very Merry Pooh Year").
Geez, at least all the other Bob's got a PAID, full day off on Christmas. In this version, Mickey, getting an UNPAID, half day off for Christmas is getting screwed. :P
I do love the clever way Scrooge gets rid of the charity collectors in this version. :)
i know im only 17, and the older folks know this stuff more than me, but I WANT THE OLD DISNEY BACK!!!!! D,X

Good job, Jiminy Cricket!

@TheDKGirl Could be(I'm not sure),but I think this came before DuckTales,so they couldn't use Glomgold in that case.

He robbed them while running a lending house, not by literally going out and robbing their homes.
