You should work on palm muting, its easy to learn and it sounds awesome!
Oh, and when you palm mute, you should do like Devin (and Hetfield) and kinda scrape the strings with the side of your pick, check out Devin's video "on creating the heavy sound"

not bad but you need to palm mute and would sound much more like the real thing.

I'm not good at palm mute, that why I havn't done them.
My playing is far different from devin, much lighter.
