@craigpsimpson well, if you look at the event as a pivotal moment in Irish history, as every historian does, this event acted as the catalyst for a full scale rebellion and insurgency that led to the full withdrawal of British forces from 26 counties. If that doesn't qualify as an arse kicking then i do not know what does. In any case it really does mystify me as to why arseholes like you continue to defend Britains right to occupy a peaceful neighbour for no other reason than might is right.

@MrBackdoorable I was merely pointing out that given the Easter rising was quelled, and the 'rebellion and insurgency' didn't get going for three years after, it wasn't a military success as you had previously insinuated. Also, I'm not defending Britain's rule in Ireland - as evidenced by the lack of such an endorsement anywhere in my previous comment. The same people in the same place should rule themselves.

And the english made a stupid mistake of turning them into martyrs. You went from having support/passive support in Ireland to a full rebellion in most counties within a few years, which you then failed to put down. Sounds like a british defeat to me
