your show is the BOMB! the only classy, and yet entertaining to watch! :) im eating popcorn and soda while watching your show! you my friend are making vids the right way :D
The Sega Saturn wasn't a failure. It failed only in Nordamerika because of the bad marketing of Bernie Stolar. He did 2 things, first he didn't allow 2D games and RPGs to be brought to America since appearently nobody cares about those *sacasm* and it launched in an instant, which was to much for consumers/developers. Also he said "The Saturn isn't our Future"...now that answers most of your questions. Maybe the Dreamcast wouldn't be beaten by PS2 that easiely :/
You missed the absolutley mindboggling event wherein Sega went to E3 and told attendants of their keynote that they were unveling a new console, and that you could essentially buy it immediately. Think how crazy it would be for a console to do that today? I remember walking into my local software store and thinking "is that... THAT IS. It's a SATURN. What is that doing here?!" Developers couldn't market their games effectively and it pissed them off.
the problem with sega consoles is that they were always rushing ahead trying to release their stuff before anybody else, thinking making things before other people was more important than sheer quality
This sums up my Dreamcast experience,I used to work part time in a gaming outlet back in 2000 during the holiday season, alot of people would come in and check out the Dreamcast and would say, hmmm it looks cool but I think il wait for the PS2,and when the PS2 was released we had a number of people trying to trade in there Dreamcast for PS2s,sad really it was a good machine and if Sega had waited awhile longer and put more work into it they could have had a real winner on their hands.
Truth be told, if Sega had waited another 9-12 months, they could have had hardware comparable to PS2, and it would have been a true battle. Sadly, despite it being a great system, it simply couldnt compete with the PS2. I remember buying the PS2m and one of the big selling points for me was I didn't need to buy a dvd player(at the time, they were pretty expensive)
It's a shame the Saturn didn't do better, I think it was all advertising. I didn't even hear about it until years later, none of my friends had one or anything. All I knew at the time was that this amazing new Playstation was coming out, along with rumors of Nintendo doing a new thing. My big brother convinced me to wait on the Playstation and get an N64... biggest mistake of my gaming life
@hdad2 Really, it was a combination of the platform being hard to dev for, bad management/marketing, and the decision to build the hardware for 2d vs 3d, like the PS1
Dude!! your information is amazing but........ you should get a camera that matches the awesome quality that your show already has!! really, your shows rocks!! keep up with that!
I owned both dreamcast and ps2 in my lifetime even tho I got to play my first sonic game which is the most excited I got for any game in my life the PS2 will always be the best console I ever owned
i'm not sure, but i think it's this video that made me buy a dreamcast (and get rid of my PS2... well i'm going to anyway) for another episode, could you look into the Worlds of Power series ( books based on video games such as Simons Quest, Mega Man 2, Blaster master and others)
great review and history just how i remembered it, wow the dreamcast is an awesome system and i have now and use it more than my ps3 or xbox. odd but older games just have it a special place in my heart.
I HATE when people say the "dream cast 2" is coming out WE ALL KNOW that it is NEVER COMING OUT SO STOP MAKING DUMB FAKE VIDEO WITH RICK N ROLL MUSIC SO SSSSSTTTTOOOOPPPP
@theslashingcloud Atari 5200 never came out in Japan. Atari only released one console in Japan and that was the 2600 (branded 2800), and it failed due to the fact that the Famicom was out already.
If I had to pick a company to drop out of the hardware race so that sega could re-enter, it'd have to be microsoft. It'd be a minute price to pay to see the classic sega vs. nintendo rivalry again.
the Dreamcast was codenamed katana for a reason: it was a samurai that did what it could support its daimyo: sega. Dreamcast died, but it died honorably. the iwo jima music background matched this video well.
Sega is lost as a company. The Dreamcast is still a marvel that stands the test of time, but bad marketing and business decisions made the company step down as hardware manufacturers. Many fans (including me) love this console to death, and have extensive Dreamcast libraries. But where is Sega today? They keep making good games, but they neglect their mascot, Sonic. I think there should be a true sonic adventure 2, not that mess with shadow the hedgehog. Anyway, there should be a Shenmue 3.
Think of a World where Dreamcast didn't die, a world where SEGA rules and Nintendon't , where Sony and Microsoft have a hard time just competing against SEGA, and a world where we would be playing 8th generation console starting from 2009. Why why did dreamcast had to die :(
@personluv913 id like a world where nintendo and sega ruled neck and neck, with just a little friendly competition and sony and microsoft staying in the computer world where they belong, not in the world of video games
@nutsforbionicles I'm a bit of a sony fanboy based on my days with the ps2 so i could never really say that i wish sony never got into the gameing world.
However that does not mean i don't morn the death oh the dreamcast hell i never owned one and i still get sad when i think of sega's downfall
Even though the GCN was released after the PS2, Nintendo wasn't nervous about the DVD playing capabilities of the PS2 because two disk Nintendo consoles and soon to be released Wii U disk console don't have DVD support.
Quite Unfortunate what happened to Sega, but remember the you should never give up on Dreams, and the same should be said about the Dreamcast. That System will always hold a special place in my heart. I recieved mine in Christmas of 2000, and i will never forget playing Sonic Adventure for the first time....
no matter how many consoles come out with there new hardware, better graphics and motion controll i will always be in love with the dreamcast and gamecube thumbs up if you agree
This puts me into a sad mood everytime. I know its kinda silly to get upset about a game company going out and all. But Sega was what I grew up with. It's basically all I had up until the N64 came out. I loved playing Vectorman 2 and Sonic 3 with Knuckles, and all those other great games. And now I am grown up and I see that part of my childhood is gone. It's like seeing the house you grew up in being destroyed. Something you cherished at a young age, killed in the eyes of your adulthood.
The ps1 is the best console in my opinion. This is why inwould choose dreamcast over ps2 is because it had more of a ps1 library, such as Dino crisis, tomb raider, resident evil and soul caliber etc..... Ps1 rules!!! Dreamcast was like a 128 bit revision of the ps1.
@BryanBlazekid Not trying to start a fan war or flame war, but although the Sonic series has a ton of fans, Sonic is just never have another good game. @superretard64 it has been rumored that sega will announce what they're project "saturn" in spring and with all the hardware baught many people think its gonna be a dreamncast 2
@Minority119 hey the sega dreamcast didn't fail us sega did i am a nintendo guy first and sega is a closeclose second but with all there stupid addons and sega saturn bullshit they made it clear why people should stick with nintendo or sony throughtout the 90's the dreamcast was a great system and will always be one but the fact that early in the consoles life you could burn games to a cd, and no dvd player
@Minority119 My CD Burner Failed Dream cast..Was crazy you could just rip a DC game put it on a CDR and it ran....probably helped Sega with the lack of profit saying most of their games were on rom sites while the console was new... ><
just wanted to correct a few mistakes you made. 1. The Dreamcast did not use "double density CD"S) a DD-CD is different than a GD-ROM. A GD-ROM is a normal CD that uses a special burner that packs the bits more tightly by spinning the disc at 12x but burning the bits at a higher speed. a GD-ROM holds 1GB of data while DD-CD is a completely different format that a normal CD reader cant read. it holds 1.4gb. 2. PS2 uses DVD's, and cant read DL DVDs. only the ps3 and 360 can, its a new(er) format.
@Ohsta6t2 the dreamcast could render more than 3 million polygons as was shown in test drive le mans which pushed nearly 6 million polygons a second, while no ps2 game came even close to showing 15 million polygons a second. meaning sony were a bunch of liars and mislead everyone. in the end the ps2 was barely any more powerful than dc, on paper it looked like much but in reality it wasn't realistic the claims by any means
interesting fact about the sega saturn: when SEGA announced the release of sega saturn at E3 on May 11th they said that it was going to come out on the original release date but it turned out the saturn was coming out THAT DAY they announced it and was considered one of the worst plot twist ever at E3
Bernie Stolar was and is a moron because of him none of the 2D RPGs from Japan came to the USA because he was pro 3D and hated RPGs and with him at SEGA we didn't get any 2D or 3D RPGs Saturn or Dreamcst which in my opinion would have helped both system sell better like the Playstation did since it had tons of 2D and 3D RPGs games from Japan to help sell it. Also Bernie almost sank Sony when he work for them too.
Ever since the release of the system I've wanted a Dreamcast.Even though it's 10 years later I still want one because of the awesome arcade-like games.
Like I always say REAL gaming consles died after dreamcast and I think it's really because of the Internet connections and games like call of duty that brought real gaming consles down
The piano accompanying the tragic narration in the intro made me feel a bit sad...in a totally good way. Like many people, I enjoy bashing modern-day Sega for their oft-mediocre product quality and poor marketing philosophy, but I respect their legacy in the console market. I always wonder what a modern HD Sega console would have been like...

THUS: SEGA HAD TO SUFFER FROM NINTENDO'S BETRAYAL!!

TheDoopliss2 1 year ago
just wanted to correct a few mistakes you made.

@Ohsta6t2 i know but im just saying normal people say seg-uh kiss ass' say say-ga
brutalistlegend 1 year ago
@Ohsta6t2 everybody says seg-uh thats how its spelled sega not sayga
brutalistlegend 1 year ago
@Ohsta6t2 the dreamcast could render more than 3 million polygons as was shown in test drive le mans which pushed nearly 6 million polygons a second, while no ps2 game came even close to showing 15 million polygons a second. meaning sony were a bunch of liars and mislead everyone. in the end the ps2 was barely any more powerful than dc, on paper it looked like much but in reality it wasn't realistic the claims by any means
drunkensailor112 1 year ago
ps2 is biggest lie ever. internet support was bullshit 60 million polygons per second was bullshit

interesting fact about the sega saturn: when SEGA announced the release of sega saturn at E3 on May 11th they said that it was going to come out on the original release date but it turned out the saturn was coming out THAT DAY they announced it and was considered one of the worst plot twist ever at E3

I don't have a dreamcast, but i think it'd be cool if someone burned a godzilla fighting game for the dreamcast.

SEGA has been around for AGES

Bernie Stolar was and is a moron because of him none of the 2D RPGs from Japan came to the USA because he was pro 3D and hated RPGs and with him at SEGA we didn't get any 2D or 3D RPGs Saturn or Dreamcst which in my opinion would have helped both system sell better like the Playstation did since it had tons of 2D and 3D RPGs games from Japan to help sell it. Also Bernie almost sank Sony when he work for them too.
