I thought all the 'kid-friendly' editing was done well. When things could be edited in such a way to maintain the song's integrity, It was done. but it wasn't just censored into oblivion. I felt the alterations were respectfully handled by someone who loved the original.

Lovely performance. Maureen and Mimi were great, I adored Angel, Collins had the right presence, Roger's gorgeous, but....Mark's voice just sounded pretty nasally at times. Other times, he sounded AWESOME, but just...really nasally at others. Also, I would have preferred some more table-dancing from Mark, Angel, and Mimi - their solo dances were lacking in energy.
Why's everyone hating on this? I think it's fine to introduce Rent to younger people, it has an amazing message, and taking out a few more controversial parts isn't gonna kill anyone. And y'all need to stop being so snobby about critiquing these kids, it isn't Broadway. I'm blown away by all their voices and performances.

i think that the school edition shit is unreasonable, coming from a school where some lose there virginity in the 7th grade, i think this a great show cuz it has subjects that alot of mid and high schools deal with, yes some of my friends are HIV+, BTW, this one was kind of mediocar and what the hell is up with the 8ft tall angel and only white kids? in fact, my drama teacher is thinking of doing the BROADWAY edition but before audition shes sending out letters to parents about the material.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. The school actually did a pretty good job for having to work with that kind of script. There are just some musicals that should not be done by high schools, even if there is a "School Edition" script. Rent is one of them.

ok i agree with you marineforcealpha, but this scence was altered and there isnt any excuse for not hearing all the words, so no words should have been taken away. that is the whole reason why it was so hard for schools to do this production because of the language and content of the play but if you take away or change the words it takes away some of the meaning of the enitre play.

in every scene of this schools performance that i've watched, their collins is being way too much of a ham. he's making it the collins show, and its not. its seems he thinks the whole show is a joke, and thats not right. i've seen this show with the original mark and rodger, and collins was not trying to steal every scene he was in. and what's this guy wearing, an afro wig? this collins is not right for the part.everyone else is good though.

It's all about who's comfortable with acting. In my drama club there was only 6 black kds, three of them who were mixed. there were others who came and went, but that's different. I mean we're doing Grease next year and I can almost Guarantee that Danny is going to be black. It also depends on who can act and who can sing. The audience will forgive an actor for acting well and not having a good voice than vice versa.

ok i agree with you marineforcealpha, but this scence was altered and there isnt any excuse for not hearing all the words, so no words should have been taken away. that is the whole reason why it was so hard for schools to do this production because of the language and content of the play but if you take away or change the words it takes away some of the meaning of the enitre play.

I loved your Collins and your Roger. Mark was pretty good. Mimi and Maureen were okay, but better than I thought they would be, considering this is a school edition. As for Angel, I loved him. ;D How tall are you?

Everyone seems uninterested in one of the most interesting scenes in the show.
With everyone sitting at the table, and not doing something more, it really took away from the excitement.

in every scene of this schools performance that i've watched, their collins is being way too much of a ham. he's making it the collins show, and its not. its seems he thinks the whole show is a joke, and thats not right. i've seen this show with the original mark and rodger, and collins was not trying to steal every scene he was in. and what's this guy wearing, an afro wig? this collins is not right for the part.everyone else is good though.

It's all about who's comfortable with acting. In my drama club there was only 6 black kds, three of them who were mixed. there were others who came and went, but that's different. I mean we're doing Grease next year and I can almost Guarantee that Danny is going to be black. It also depends on who can act and who can sing. The audience will forgive an actor for acting well and not having a good voice than vice versa.
