My yorkie hates being groomed so I just keep her hair short and wash her once a week. Neither of us would be happy with all this dying and drying and combing. She tolerates brushing when needed but straightening? Really?

Go ahead and trim as close as you can to the skin. Just be super becareful.

Pure Paws is one of the only brands that DID NOT cause irritation!! The wonderful smell you think it would. I used this brand called SPA aroma therapy and my two Yorkies broke out in a rash on their belly. Going back to Pure Paws!!

i use the blow dryer method where you take the coat and straighten it by using the blowdryer and your hand it works well for my yorkie :) hes a yorkillon or a yorkie papillon mix so he has the beautiful yorkie coat and then the adorable yorkillon ears and tail. i love him :) hes sitting here beside me watching the computer screen and video. great video :)
lol all im thinking while watching this...so many dogs out there who dont even have a home or a family to be with...no food nor water...or in a dog shelter waiting to be adopted. @nadiya1is1here ya THATS wrong but if the dog wouldnt like it it may have been calm, it would show that it didnt like it. although dogs dont use as many face muscles as we do, but you can still tell if a dog is happy or not
@lovegood55 This is a very common grooming procedure for many drop coated breeds such as chinese crested powder puffs, yorkies, maltese, afghan hounds, shitzu. Yes they have straight coats but ironing takes out any gradual wave and stretching the coat gives the illusion of greater length as well

Most pet owners agree that their pet has a top priority in the life and home and also want their dogs and cats kept in clean attractive condition at all times. Eliminating the cleaningand conditioning process increases the chance for medical attention to the skin, ears, eyes. Keep your pet clean for less than a price to the vet. You will both be more comfortable.
Whether you want to show or not if you want to have the coat like a show dog you must do the grooming to keep the coat. Otherwise they are very cute maintained by a groomer of your choice or shaved down as well. If you are dedicated at shampooing, conditioning and brushing daily you can maintain this coat beautifully yourself.
@MegaKangroo No. You have to do this about once a week if you have a show coat. If you have a puppy cut (or other short cut) you can wash them about once every 3 weeks with ordinary shampoo and conditioner for dogs.
Absolutely most of the show dogs are privileged to be with their owners even at work many times. They are pampered. They learn to play with other animals (on lead) in a very safe environment. Most live very healthy long lifes and love their owners and friends endlessly.
Also 4 all the people who think this is some type of dog abuse 1st off u never saw that dog look upset or act as though it was being hurt & 2nd I think u need 2 have a yorkie 2 understand their coat type...it is very much like thin hair not fur & it requires daily upkeep or else it'll dread & tangle. To me an abused yorkie is one that is matted and dreaded...the pup in this video was far from abused...it was spoiled rotten
I use 2 try 2 keep my yorkies hair long in the winter & give him a puppy cut in the spring but the long hair was so hard 2 keep up that after a while he just wore a puppy cut year round & I put jackets on him when it got cold outside. Now that I c all I needed 2 use was my chi flat iron on a low setting this year I'll keep his hair long 4 the winter. Also I always thought I was weird 4 using conditioner & such on him, now I c others do it 2 lol I feel better about it.
Yorkies in most cases are dyed for show, Yorkshire Terriers have extremely high expectations in show and that includes their hair having to already be topped off, only so much silver only so much black etc etc. So many breeders and show owners will dye their hair to meet these expectations. In most cases the dyes are temporary for the show only and that means they are extremely non toxic and will not harm the dog. It's their choice as the owner if you don't like it raid a show with Peta.

I'm all for pampering pets... but this is absurd. Dyeing a dog's hair and then flat ironing it? I have a Yorkie and would never do this to my dog. Who knows what the long-term effects of the chemicals in the dye might be on the dog? And beyond that, dogs are active, social animals, not accessories. If you want to do all of this to something, buy one of those Barbie hairdressing mannequin heads.

i use the blow dryer method where you take the coat and straighten it by using the blowdryer and your hand it works well for my yorkie :) hes a yorkillon or a yorkie papillon mix so he has the beautiful yorkie coat and then the adorable yorkillon ears and tail. i love him :) hes sitting here beside me watching the computer screen and video. great video :)

lol all im thinking while watching this...so many dogs out there who dont even have a home or a family to be with...no food nor water...or in a dog shelter waiting to be adopted. Or all the yorkies out there suffering being bred to be even a smaller size, not being fed well for that purpose. Another thing people dont know is Yorkies dont have fur what that professional is flat ironing is NOT fur, it's HAIR!! @lovegood55 This is a very common grooming procedure for many drop coated breeds such as chinese crested powder puffs, yorkies, maltese, afghan hounds, shitzu. Yes they have straight coats but ironing takes out any gradual wave and stretching the coat gives the illusion of greater length as well

Whether you want to show or not if you want to have the coat like a show dog you must do the grooming to keep the coat. Otherwise they are very cute maintained by a groomer of your choice or shaved down as well. If you are dedicated at shampooing, conditioning and brushing daily you can maintain this coat beautifully yourself.

Absolutely most of the show dogs are privileged to be with their owners even at work many times. They are pampered. They learn to play with other animals (on lead) in a very safe environment. Most live very healthy long lifes and love their owners and friends endlessly.

Also 4 all the people who think this is some type of dog abuse 1st off u never saw that dog look upset or act as though it was being hurt & 2nd I think u need 2 have a yorkie 2 understand their coat type...it is very much like thin hair not fur & it requires daily upkeep or else it'll dread & tangle. I use 2 try 2 keep my yorkies hair long in the winter & give him a puppy cut in the spring but the long hair was so hard 2 keep up that after a while he just wore a puppy cut year round & I put jackets on him when it got cold outside. Now that I c all I needed 2 use was my chi flat iron on a low setting this year I'll keep his hair long 4 the winter. Also I always thought I was weird 4 using conditioner & such on him, now I c others do it 2 lol I feel better about it.

Yorkies in most cases are dyed for show, Yorkshire Terriers have extremely high expectations in show and that includes their hair having to already be topped off, only so much silver only so much black etc etc. So many breeders and show owners will dye their hair to meet these expectations. In most cases the dyes are temporary for the show only and that means they are extremely non toxic and will not harm the dog. It's their choice as the owner if you don't like it raid a show with Peta.

I'm all for pampering pets... but this is absurd. Dyeing a dog's hair and then flat ironing it? I have a Yorkie and would never do this to my dog. Who knows what the long-term effects of the chemicals in the dye might be on the dog? And beyond that, dogs are active, social animals, not accessories. If you want to do all of this to something, buy one of those Barbie hairdressing mannequin heads.
