From what I'm seeing here, this is what I always assumed was going on in this: Amy chased after Sonic, trying to get him to "marry" her. Sonic hurts her feelings/breaks her heart by telling her annoyingly/jokingly that he will never love/marry her. Amy takes it the wrong way and runs off crying and hides in a forest. Sonic shrugs it off and heads back home. He thinks about it. He decides he should apologize. He meets up with her in the forest. He smiles at her. Happy ending! =D Awesome ending :)

Ok.. the reasons why I think Sega didn't make them do anything but stand around and look at each other are:

1. If they kiss, everyone would be all "SONAMY!!! SONAMY ON SONIC X!!!" or something like that.

2. If they hug, it may show a love interest for Sonic, especially with the song they chose. And Sega must be planning something, I don't know.
