Sarah Palin certainly was a vital part of the campaign - one of the best things that could have happened for Obama. Before Palin appeared, Democrats sore at Hilary Clinton's defeat just might have abandoned Obama, but the 'hockey mom/ pitbull' was just so awful they rallied them round to give Obama every support.

Obama and Biden have been through more interviews than Sarah Palin; the interviews didn't seem challenging because both gave confident answers.

As a conservative myself, I believe Sarah Palin was a vital part of the campaign. She energized the Republican base like none other; Romney, Pawlenty, etc. could NOT have done that.
Given the circumstances, she did a fine job. Did she have bad moments? Sure - the Couric interview was poor - and when the ENTIRE national media is against you (and fawning over Obama), it's an uphill battle.
Romney and Huckabee split the conservative vote, allowing for McCain - who was a weak candidate.

Sarah Palin should never have accepted McCain's offer for the position. The woman is not a deep thinker and her 2006 gubernatorial win in Alaska--as well as her tenure as mayor of a town of 6000--are not qualifications for the vice presidency. She may not be brilliant, but at least she's real. Biden would have sat there and lied through his teeth while smiling the whole time, which is what most people have come to expect from our politicians. Someone told me once that "any idiot can tell the truth", and that only "smart people can lie and make people believe what they are saying". I don't subscribe to that theory as this is exactly why this country is in the situation we're in now.

It's not that simple, fishface. However, if you want to simplify things, I could make the argument that MY version of acceptable murder is more moral than YOUR version. Many dems believe that it is within their rights to choose to end (or not) the life of a fetus that is growing within their own body. Many repubs believe that it is within THEIR rights to end the LIVES (plural) of people they have never seen for reasons of profit and/or fear. The former is arguably more moral,the latter depraved.
