  • here it is lol, the highlight for Ho'omalu, he said, "was when Princess Abigail Kawananakoa called me up so she could talk to me. That was better than anything else. She said, I no care what anybody thinks, you're the best of the best and you should've won.

"And for me, she's the last of the mo'i (royalty), she's the last of the queens ... I got to chant for her, so I got to be a court chanter for once in my whole lifetime."

you cant beat that bro, if mo'i say ur the best..then your the best

  • @heyitskainoa and no your wrong bro, i am a dancer and i will be for the rest of my life and the academy is my halau of number one choice. and as far as that footage you talking about with kalakauas coronation, im not argueing about that what so ever but i will say i have an amazing piece of info, check it.

  • i strongly believe in what the academy stands for, the academy may not win the points and smiles from all the judges but they def win the hearts of the people. kudos to uncle mark, and to my amazingly beautiful cuzin at the head of the triangle, in front shining like the star i know she is.

  • to heyitskainoa, yes the academy is a very different style of hula and that is why they dont place at the merrie monarch, but as a hawaiian myself i can say that hawaiians sometimes need to practice what they preach, when the merrie monarch first started there was a half page of rules and guide lines, now there are well over 30 pages of rules so who is to say what is breaking kapu and traditions. hula expands and moves with time as it has since the first hawaiian danced the first mele.

  • the judges, who are all kumu hula, decide which is why they have rules and why they like fact sheets provided. and while hula may differ and new mele are added each generation, kapu never changes, just as tradition never changes. Mark can do what he wishes, it is his group and his life, but people should just stop complaining when he doesnt win.

  • lol yea so obdviously you dont read very well bro! but anyways if you think people should stop complaining about A.H.A not winning, i think it goes both ways there. people should stop complaining about A.H.A not being "traditional". traditional really doesnt exist anymore. if you take one "traditional" dance back in time and show our kapunas and queen they would say what the fuck is that? hula is what it is..hula is now 2010. now 500 B.C.

  • There are people still doing traditional stuff. You obviously donʻt know this because you donʻt dance hula and you probably know absolutely nothing about hula. They wouldnʻt say what the fuck. Thereʻs footage from Kalākauaʻs coronation and you look at the dances they are doing and what some people are doing today and itʻs EXACTLY the same. Itʻ ignorant people like you who think they know it all that think hula died out. Itʻs still alive, you just have to know where to look.

  • Itʻs very sad to hear that you think traditional has died out.

  • Thats not what im saying dude. im saying traditional is not the same traditional that it once was. hawaiians do not dance the same as they did hundreds of yeas ago, it has naturally changed. and so have the "traditional" rules and guidelines

  • because, they weren't the best. they weren't anywhere near it. the people who won deserved it.

furthermore, they break several kapu and traditions that go along with hula kahiko. thats why they'll never win if they keep doing what they do.

  • They should have won both Auana and Kahiko!!!

  • no they shouldʻnt have.

  • Why?

  • Mahalo blckSTRM2007 for posting these!
