  • 10 points for the gundam !!!!! whoot nice work

  • its the strike gundam

  • nice model

  • Are the basics on animation programs (maya, 3ds max...) taught or is prior knowledge of the programs required to take an animation course?

  • @Aniamaze Prior knowledge is always helpful, but students will be taught everything they need during the course of the program. Thanks!

  • NICE.

  • very kool, gotta do more n longer

  • Do Visual Effects Artists learn to Model as well at VFS? If yes, what software is taught 3DS Max or Maya?

  • @DarkSpringPoet Students in our 3D Animation & Visual Effects program will spend the first half of their year learning about 3D animation, modeling and visual effects. In the second half of the year students will specialize in one of those three disciplines. Typically, our students learn to use Maya and/or XSI. Hope that helps. Thanks!

  • i Wanna go to that school so freaken bad... but im only in grade 9 T.T..i am going there for collage

  • OMFG! i was impressed!

  • What kind of computer hardware did you need for this reel? Did you use a renderfarm of some some sort or a single computer? Could I do this on a macbook pro with nvidia 330 512mb graphic card, 4gb ram and corei7 processor? I am an online computer animation student and have no access to my schools lab as of right now. Any feedback would be great

  • @Ralpimp09 We are constantly updating technology at VFS, but right now students use computers with the following specifications:

    Model: HP XW 8600

    CPU: Quad 2.83 GHz Intel Xeon® E5440

    Memory: 4096 MB

    OS Version: Windows XP x64

    Video: NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700/1700

Hope that helps! Good luck with your studies.

  • Hands are HUEG.

  • I have the exact model.

    Strike Gundam MG

  • No way you'd do it in a week unless you had a small team on it.

  • One driven coder can accomplish more than entire teams of yawning corporates.

  • I don't think there was any coding involved at all.

  • You're probably right, of course. I was using the word "coder" in the sense of any authoring application being akin to a high-level language. Sorry for the ambiguity.

  • No worries, I gotcha.

  • i envy you pipol... ^^,

  • my cousin does animations like these

says it can sometimes take a few months to do a simple animation like this.

  • agree

  • Wow, superb!

  • I have the lamp in the first clip!

  • me too >.> its a trap lets get rid of it...

  • Man, if only some movies these days had effects like this!

  • The robot looks like a Gundam? O_O

  • yup strike and it looks like a Mk II Titan in the back

  • wow cool animation

  • Amazing work!!!

  • cool

  • anyone know the name of the song?

  • Amazing work. Very realistic.

  • Finally someone who has some talent around here...

  • Nice footsteps and simulation of weight... often overlooked, but very important for realism.

  • Yeah. Except this time the subject was 11 inches tall and made of plastic, so I don't think it would be that pronounced.

The effect of 'movement compensation' & balance was a great little detail. Though that may not be so prevalent either at such a small size. It did however seem to match it's illusion of weight.

  • wow! 10!

  • But there are only 5!

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hahaha okok 5! hahaha

  • I agree though, if there were ten, 10/10! LOL

  • dunny ion the back dunny in the back

  • haha, yeah, make a movie like 'gundam desktop takeover' or something. Kick the sh*t out of spongebob perhaps.haha

  • Would be interesting to know how long the producion time on this was. Very nice!

  • cool gundam

  • u need to make a movie out of it

  • 好酷就是太短了!

  • cool man!!

  • i can dig it

  • What you dont know about trying to get a job in 3D animation is that it is EXTREMELY competitive and hard to break into and when you finally get that job you will find that all the knowledge you have gathered from studying is almost entirely useless. And you wont get that job without an uphill battle unless you already know someone in the industry. Good luck, the odds are stacked against you.

  • lol i hope you aren't focusing on lighting because you'll never get a job with this in any part of your reel... they still don't use ray tracing in production yet... they just started using hdri in Cars.. learn to fake it baking the lighting and ambient occlusion stuff like that...

  • DUNNY!!!

  • Wow, what can I say cept coolio...

  • Strike Gundam, and RX-78 Gundam MK-2.

  • LMAo tight

  • thats amazing!

  • We've actually got almost all of those devices in games today, the fore runner being Crysis. Crysis utilizes parallax occlusion mapping, along with enhanced soft shadows and spectral lighting thanks to Dx10. But what it doesn't use (but is capable of) is ray tracing as shown here. Unfortunately, that method requires a lot of processing power, and is not ideal for rendering in real time. Maybe in a year or so it will be :P

  • Wow. That was awesome. I hope you can get a job at ILM.

  • shooda had them fite

  • "those who lay eyes on a gundam shall not live to tell about" trowa barton

  • Most impressive!

  • Kudos

  • wow. that was cool

  • cool what class did you take to learn that? cause im gunna be goin to film school soon and i wanna know what claaa to take to learn that

  • awesome

  • That was a gundam right? Nice.

  • lol everyone's criticising it in some way, but damn, i think that was gorgeous! those gundams looked amazing.

  • that is an amazing 3d model

  • its was cool but you need to do something better like fight the other gundam

  • Excellent animation. One minor point of criticism - environment interaction. When Gundam there stomps, the objects on the desk should rattle. This may not be literally realistic but this is an 'effects' demo. Environmental cohesiveness is the final metric for an effect's - any effects - realism or suspension of disbelief. Overall, great job!

  • Cool but you should have worked with a graphic designer on the titles and things - they match the content.

  • hey tell me what program did you use and how i can learn to use anyway at least tell me what program you use and if you can i looking for one good program for edit movies and things like that i hope some one answer something soon please

  • are you looking for editing or compositing software?

  • both i need one foe editing and another but more inportant i need one very good whit a lot of options and a lot of efects for make movies a things like that please help me

  • Firstly you need to learn better grammar, secondly you need to go to school. Actually, going to school will help with both of those things >:D
