War is not fun and this man's pain is regretable, but every US $ we spend propping up Iraq is one less US $ spent on the US. The surge in Iraq is 'working' while the US economy is failing. This soldier wants to keep his job (in Iraq), but people in the US want to keep their jobs too. Iraq has been a misguided war with faulty motives from the beginning, but if we continue down this path, no one, including a shiny new democratic Iraq, is going to save the US from it's own financial bankruptcy.
The war isn't bankrupting your country. You nation is going broke the old fashion way social programs and government waste. American schools get more funding then Canada and virtually all of Europe and you still under perform more money won't fix that.
Of course there is domestic waste (both governmental and corporate) that needs to be fixed as well. The scope of my point rests with the Iraq war however: A dollar well-spent on Iraq is less beneficial to the United States than a dollar well-spent on the United States directly.

I was there in Iraq before, during and after the war. I stopped believing in this war after no WMD, no alqaida link, the rush to secure oil. The military is full of people like this ranger. I feel for the guy. I want them to succeed too. But the invasion should have never happened. This is history repeating itself. Korea, Vietnam... most of us should have KNOWN that once the war started really sucking on our economy, we'd rethink the wisdom of what we are doing and start asking more questions. Questions we should have been asking before this happened.

War is not fun and this man's pain is regretable, but every US $ we spend propping up Iraq is one less US $ spent on the US. The surge in Iraq is 'working' while the US economy is failing. This soldier wants to keep his job (in Iraq), but people in the US want to keep their jobs too. Iraq has been a misguided war with faulty motives from the beginning, but if we continue down this path, no one, including a shiny new democratic Iraq, is going to save the US from it's own financial bankruptcy.

The war isn't bankrupting your country. You nation is going broke the old fashion way social programs and government waste. American schools get more funding then Canada and virtually all of Europe and you still under perform more money won't fix that.

Of course there is domestic waste (both governmental and corporate) that needs to be fixed as well. The scope of my point rests with the Iraq war however: A dollar well-spent on Iraq is less beneficial to the United States than a dollar well-spent on the United States directly.
As an aside, you're wrong about the US under-performing relative to Canada: The US Gross National Income per capita is ranked #7 worldwide, Canada is ranked a distant 17. Check "GNI" on Wikipedia.
