funny enough the "like bar" looks like a freshly sparked blunt, inhale and stop hatin'. Sergio Mendes, you've been a genius for a while now, the rest of us are just catching up ; )
I remember this group from when I was very little all the way through high school. I always thought their music was fresh and easy to listen to. This track was played in a lot of places where easy listening was in vogue!!! Thanks for putting this up for our enjoyment!!!!!
Awsome score to a great animated movie, i loved Heavy Traffic since i was 16 back in 97, one of my favorite animated movies. It was the original "South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut".
Hey: I ran the sampler and replaced the lead singer's voice with a COMPOSITE!
Maria Muldare and Aretha Franklin! WOW!!!! These two merged!!! You would NOT believe the sound!!!! .
Now, how 2 upload 2 U-tube!??!
In second place and I mean a CLOSE second, Annie Lennox and Felicity Palmer, Felicity is an Opera singer BUT Annie Lennox has the greatest vocal range of ANY modern non-R&B/ Soul singer in the last 55 years..I kid you NOT!
Here is the group that typified mega cool Latin Groove in the sixties and NOBODY cared where they came from.
It was like giving your ears a rest without walking into an elevator (elevator music, dig?) or using drugs. This group was TRULY cross cultural hipness!
I wonder where they all are now?
Hummm...I think I will run them through my sampler and redub with new voices...but who could I POSSIBLY use!
Elevator high and Polar cool,..a sunset on a far away beach and the sexiest woman on earth whispering in your ear...far out...far out...Finky firm baby!!
@raindropser3....i did write some of the lyrics in my comment but ill write it again lol...here it is... ..."Come on its a Celebration, its a Jubilation its a Carnaval"..............END LYRICS........lol a friend said Sergio Mendes & brasil 66 did the song but i searched for it and i did not find anything from any of his albums so can someone please help....much appreciated
@bouncebaby07 Did you ever find the song name? Did that song as the opening for marching band in 1987, same lyrics. The whole show was Sergio Mendes songs, but I can't find the song either. Would love to know what it is...

@JimboUSofA I agree. I always thought the Simon and Garfunkel original of Scarborough Fair was kind of ponderous but Sergio's version is so great. I just love his insanely original interpretations of songs

@ferroxian The only thing that I can say is that, in my opinion, none of the current singers that I know can't hold a candle to Sergio Mendes' vocalist Lani Hall.

The essential soundtrack to "Heavy Traffic" a movie about urban decay and the darker side of things, the end a glimmer of hope. This version is outstanding.

I could watch Heavy Traffic over and over and over again, and it would blow me away each time.
personally I feel that this is superior to the original, but regardless, in the context of the film it serves as SUCH an appropriate theme.
Kethizzle 2 years ago 24
@Kethizzle The original? You realize this song was made in the 1600's right?
BLACKSABBATH0HM 10 months ago
@BLACKSABBATH0HM obviously I speak of RECORDINGS of the song :P they only date back to the 1950s
Kethizzle 10 months ago
@Kethizzle I just meant technically there is no recording of the original.
BLACKSABBATH0HM 10 months ago
@BLACKSABBATH0HM I think it's safe to say that this sexy bossa nova arrangement is superior, anyway. problem?

@Kethizzle No I agree. This is probably the greatest cover ever! Should have been more popular.
