Russian does not have definite or indefinite articles (the, a, an), and many Russians have trouble using these in languages that have them: "Today we do (a) Russian accent."
@Koo0oo0 'Soviet' Russia? Where's that? Get out of the cold war and into the present. In Russia women sound like women, because you've never been there you don't know any better.

This is a very thick Russian accent, and I have a Russian friend who sounds exactly like her. I am sure she can do different variations on accents with less or more intensity. This one is excellent and very authentic.
I assume that many country's accents are just as regional as American English accents. It all depends on where you grew up in a certain state, and what generation also matters. hm.
I think that her accents are done more in the American perception of them. Most Russian/Ukranian/etc people who have commented are telling her that her accent is off, partly about the evil spy thing. Falling got it right when he said it's very Hollywood. Her accent is exactly how Americans imagine it to be, so to an American her accent sounds incredible.
Well I have Ukrainian family and I have to say, when my aunt speaks english she pronounces the R like that, but when my cousins speak english they dont do an R like that at all, but then again my aunt's grammar is awful too;) so I think when youre grammar is good (like when Amy speaks) the 'R' shouldnt be this strong. However when your grammar is bad too, theres a big chance that youre 'R's' are too strong too;)
@cherrycouture011 It depends on what area of a country, as well as how much practice you have with English. I know people who sound British, but they're actually from Europe, but then I know people who have really strong accents.
Wow people should really calm down about these accents, she's not trying to offend anyone. She's obviously an actress, and on stage, it's necessary to accentuate all of the accents. And they must be stereotypical for them to be understood. People expect the accents to sound this way. SInce they dont actually speak the languages in question they wont know the linguistic evolution of them since these accents were established, so please, calm down.

How foreigners imitate the russian accent sounds more like arabian one, indeed. Russian doesn't have so many "roaring" as Arabian or even Spanish. So we generally don't speak like that.
It's not a big chance to meet someone learning language seriously talking like that. It's only people not very familiar with English who speak like that.
Well, the difference between russian and english accent is that in Russian (like in all slavic languages plus Greek and, partially, Italian) you have to pronounce constonants by touching with the tongue BACKSIDE of your upper teeth, unlike English (German, Hebrew, French...) when you touch the PALATE.

@DezKOdYa Seriously dudette, YOU shut up. @TheSchemer1 HAH! That's stereotypical. Not legit. And me being a teenager, it's natural to drink. But me being Russian, doesn't. Get the drift? Good. Maybe because you're European you're all frugal assholes. : )
@TheSchemer1 No it's not. Europe doesn't want Russia because of all the things that happen in it with Goverment. And in Russia, we're Slavic. Not European.
@TheSchemer1 Siberia is Russia. And Russia is Asian..not European. Or we'd use the Euro. And the European's don't trust us. I think I'd know that my people are in Asia, they tell you in 1st year geography.

@DezKOdYa You are right of course. The Schemer: You are Slavic all right, just like others are Latin, Germanic, Anglo-Saxons, etc. AND Europeans. By the way, go tell a Croat or a Bulgarian that since he's Slavic he is not European. Europe is a political concept, not an ethnic feature. Moreover, many Russians aren't Slavic. Anyway, if you are a Russian from say Moscow or St Petersburg, you feel culturally closer to Europe than Asia, aren't you? or do you feel more at home in Bangkok? Get real.
@falco566 Actually, no one asked for your opinion. It's been a week..so shht. And secondly, snglo-saxons aren't people anymore. xD There isn't an 'ethnicity' called anglo-saxon..they're just English..And dude, just because I was born in Russia, doesn't instantly mean I was born in the capital. Russia's massive. So, being born in Siberia..I am not part of Europe. Never was, never will be I'll accept that being half Polish, they are..but appart from that, no. And hah, get real? You get sorted. :)
@DezKOdYa Actually, I don't give a fuck about your asking my opinion or not. But your ignorance is contaminating this space. Here are a few facts: 1) being Slavic doesn't mean you can't be European, since being European is political concept and not an ethnic feature. 2) you were born in Siberia, fine. Are you Uralic, Altaic, Paleosiberian? No, right. 3) Even if you wanted to be Europeans, we wouldn't accept you. So stay in Siberia, and try pissing against the wind, it's refreshing.
Forgive me for interruption we are all not talking about who is in Asia and who is in Soth America and not America, we are talking who does and who does not do the right sound of any language that is some ignorant girl trying hard to do interpretation foreign accent, what ever it is, even by the way English that is not an accent, but language

she sounds pretty similar to russian but she's absolutely not right about a tongue in the back of a throat. Can't pronounce russian R that way. Russian-speakers keep their tongue mostly in front of the mouth so it (almost) touches teeth, ready to russian-specific R :), as opposed to "western" people (I read there was an investigation on that).
@jethro013 In original Russian there're no W sounds, just Vs. But only very absolute beginners may pronounce W as V by mistake, but it's not a problem for them. Those who start learning English they pronounce more like W everywhere even instead of V (wine instead of vine) because IMO it's uncommon for russian-speakers to change fast between soft and "hard" sounds, so it there's some soft sound before V they tend to pronounce it as W, and if there's a hard sound then as V.

mmm... it doesn't mean we accentuate 'r' T-H-A-T much ;)

she sounds pretty similar to russian but she's absolutely not right about a tongue in the back of a throat. Can't pronounce russian R that way. Russian-speakers keep their tongue mostly in front of the mouth so it (almost) touches teeth, ready to russian-specific R :), as opposed to "western" people (I read there was an investigation on that).

Hey! I have a question. Do Russians pronounce "W" as "V"?
jethro013 11 months ago
@jethro013 In original Russian there're no W sounds, just Vs. But only very absolute beginners may pronounce W as V by mistake, but it's not a problem for them. Those who start learning English they pronounce more like W everywhere even instead of V (wine instead of vine) because IMO it's uncommon for russian-speakers to change fast between soft and "hard" sounds, so it there's some soft sound before V they tend to pronounce it as W, and if there's a hard sound then as V.

@jethro013 not always. "wait" u just pronounce it normaly but when you say "what" it sounds a bit like "uvat" u know? a little bit of V in there
